UPDATING: A league source said this afternoon that the Eagles will not be playing their scheduled Buffalo game in Toronto, as was reported by The Fan 590 radio station today.

So you can stop reading the post now, or continue for historical context. Also, feel free to feel sorry for Philadelphia players, coaches and sports writers who thought they'd dodged a trip to the dreariest town in the NFL, but hadn't.

Oh, well, guess they probably still have bars on Allen Street where we can drown our sorrows. Perhaps the hockley scribes can advise?

EARLIER: The (highly theoretical) NFL schedule is supposed to be released at 7 p.m., but little bits and pieces are starting to trickle in. One of those, according to the Fan 590 radio station in Toronto, is that the Eagles' scheduled game in Buffalo this season will be played in Toronto instead.

If you only plan to watch from home this November -- the game apparently will be played either the 13th or theTim Hortons 20th --sending the Birds to Buffalo vs. Toronto probably doesn't mean much. For those of us acheduled to attend, though, it means a buncha stuff. One, no snow on the field, since the Bills host their Toronto games at the SkyDome, or whatever they're calling it now. Two, we won't have to set our watches for 1955. Three, we will need to make sure our passports are in order. (Toronto is in something the people there like to call "Ontario, Canada," which looks like Ohio but fancies itself a different country with laws and borders and donut shops named after famous dead hockey players.)

Stay tuned for the rest of the schedule later.

I hope the Toronto station is not right on the location for this one... A game on 11/20 in Buffalo will fit my schedule perfectly so I can attend at Ralph Wilson.

"Toronto is in something the people there like to call "Ontario, Canada," which looks like Ohio but fancies itself a different country with laws and borders and donut shops named after famous dead hockey players." It's ignorance like this that gives Ameican's such a great name abroad. Toronto porper has over 3 million people and the greater metropolitan area has over $5 million. Which city in Ohio does that best resemble? Canada also has a legitimate social safety net, maybe that's a good way to distinguish it from the US.

    Nice Timmies shout out, Les.

Yo Toronto Eagles Fan, nobody here really cares about what people "abroad" think of the US. And in addition, nobody in the US would want to live in Canada, but most Canadiens want to move to the US, so stick with the CFL and don't worry about what is going on here.

Geographically Toronto should be part of the U.S., we actually possesed it after a battle but gave it back, I think we should claim it again, just sayin'...

As an Eagles fan and someone that was born and raised in Philadelphia and still lives here, I think its just plain ignorant to comment on what Toronto is like especially if you havent been there. It's one of the most beautiful cities in North America. It's clean, the people are very friendly, and lots to do. Not to mention that the Canadian economy is in much better shape than ours. Maybe some of you should stop being so blind and realize that there are other cities in this world that are just as nice and offer just as much as Philadelphia. A game in Toronto would have been great for the people who really appreciate going to other cities.

I just spent several months in Ontario. They are HUGE NFL fans up there, the CFL is a joke by comparison. The only reason Buffalo supports a franchise is all the folks coming over from Ontario to get their NFL fix. Try going over any of the 3 bridges to Canada before or after a game, but pack a couple meals and a portajohn. Hockey is still the state religion there, but I thought putting a game in Toronto (it's called the Rogers Centre now, BTW, the Jays play there), was actually a smart move by NFL mgt whom I generally do not credit with the ability to do this sort of longterm thought. Ps. In Canada, the textbooks say the War of 1812 was won by the Canadians who drove out the "American aggressors", so you may want to check out how that territory was "given back".
