'Sources' close the matter have disclosed that 'internal' discussions have taken place within the offices of PNI regarding sending Matt Gelb to the St. Louis Post-Dispatch in trade for their rookie sports-writer. The same source, under conditions of anonymity, further detailed that Gelb, in his first year with PNI, although having been doing a fairly adequate job of fetching beverages, has been under-performing in his other duties, mainly getting the hot-dog orders for Martino, Murphy, and the other senior PNI sports-writers correct. As a result, Gelb will not be hosting the chat scheduled for noon today, but instead is packing and preparing to escort a case of butterscotch Krimpets on their way to being delivered to Buster Olney in St. Louis later today.

Philly Phans need to Join hands and sing "sign Scott Eyre-- Amaro, sign Scott Eyre" to the tune of Kumbaya. All together now.

They can only sign Eyre if he wants to come back. By all accounts, he wants to watch his kids grow up.

About Matt Gelb and Bob Brookover

Bob Brookover and Matt Gelb team up for their third straight season covering the Phillies for the Inquirer and philly.com.

This is Brookover’s second stint writing about the Phillies, having joined the coverage team after seven years as an Eagles beat writer. Brookover was hired by The Inquirer in 2000 as the Phillies beat writer after spending 13 years writing about the team for two suburban newspapers. While on the Eagles beat, Brookover, who had covered just two winning Phillies teams in 15 seasons, saw the Phillies move into a cash-cow new ballpark and begin playing a brand of the game he found unrecognizable. Gelb is in his third season covering the Phillies. He was hired by The Inquirer in August 2009 after graduating from Syracuse University. He has also covered baseball at The Star-Ledger and Cape Cod Times. Born and raised in Bucks County, he attended Central Bucks High School West. Follow him on Twitter here.
