Unlike the big to-do made of Donovan McNabb’s contract restructuring last week, Monday Night Football analyst Ron Jaworski doesn’t think it’s such a big deal.

“I think it’s irrelevant, to tell you the truth,” Jaworski said while sitting in his office at NFL Films last week in Mount Laurel.

Jaworski was participating as an instructor in last week’s 3rd annual NFL Broadcast Boot Camp for present and former players looking to break into television and radio.

“Donovan had two years left on his contract. I felt all along that he would fulfill the two years. The Eagles probably did the right thing, they had money under the cap and they gave it to a guy who is a big key to season.

“If you’re going to be a championship team, your team has to play well. There have been times, occasionally, that an average quarterback wins a Super Bowl. But it’s all about what’s your best chance to win a Super Bowl … Their best chance is with Donovan McNabb,” Jaworski said.

As a former Eagles Pro Bowl quarterback, Jaworski can understand why it was important for McNabb’s mental state to re-work his contract.

“I would think that they believe in me,” Jaworski said. “They believe I’m the guy. They laid 5 million on my lap. They could have easily said to play the next two years how the contract is.”

With a healthy – and happy – quarterback, Jaworski thinks that the Eagles offense will operate a little more smoothly this year. Aside from McNabb, the upgrades on the offensive line and at receiver can’t hurt. But a lot depends on how the team’s collective personality jells.

Jaworski knows that each new player brings a new dimension to the locker room.

“Although I think there have been upgrades in the talent and youth, chemistry is always the unknown,” he noted. “You look at the offensive line and they are huge – but can those 5 work as one?”

In the end, Jaworski thinks that the Eagles will be standing at the top of the NFC East standings at the end of the upcoming season – despite changes abound to opponents’ rosters.

“Although I think the Eagles are a better football team … [the division is] my biggest concern. The Giants are a heck of a football team. You’re going to have to contend with Albert Haynesworth in Washington. Dallas is still a very talented football team. I think the NFC East is a hell of a division.

“I still like the Eagles.”

From the ex-Eagles file, Sean Considine has been penciled in as the starting strong safety for the Jacksonville Jaguars.

“I wanted the opportunity to start when I first went in and talked to them," Considine told the Rockford Register Star in his hometown in Illinois. "They told me I would be given that chance, and the rest is up to me. Their defense is quite a bit different from what I’m used to, though. There are a lot of adjustments I still need to make.”

"wilts under pressure" McNabb threw for 375 yards and 3 TDs in the NFC Championship game. It wasn't McNabb who let Warner complete 75% of his passes in that game, who fell to the ground on a lame duck toss that Fitzgerald caught for a TD, allowed 4 of the first 5 Arizona to end up in scores, miss an early field goal, allow Arizona to move the ball from their own 16 to field goal range in the final 1:31 of the 1st half, nor gave up a 7:52 scoring drive late in the 4th quarter. The Eagles' offense produced a first down or score on every drive and Rocca only punted once in the game.

dicte,as usual a ridiculous response.Been following the eagles for 58 years, saw the last CHAMPIONSHIP.Probably longer than you been alive. You say McPuke is respected around the league well respect does NOT win championships but I guess your just to stupid to realize that and nobody demands a championship every single year except for morons like you and a lot of these other posters who say EVERY year the eagles will win the SB as many above have done.People like you are PATHETIC because if someone disagrees with you your response is always the same 'their giant, cowboy or skins fans'or how about this brilliant retort'go root for the lions and see how you like it'.The facts are McDog has not and never will win a SB he just does not have it neither does AR.A few of us can see that, most of you can't because your stepfords who blindly follow this team with no objectivity, such is your miserable lot in life but thats how you choose live it.OldBird is right jeffy laughs all the way to the bank on the backs of chumps like you.By the way moron six figure income for years and now with a BIG FAT retirement check that comes in regularly without touching the retirement investment. Can't wait till those soc.sec. checks to start rolling in a few years from now.Cya loser

tejayanie, you must be new on the posts here...they aren't fans, obviously, they are Giants, Patriots, and Cowboys fans. McNabb is one of the most well respected QB in the NFL. Not sure what gives these "fans" the right to demand a championship every single year, as if we have won it sooooooo many times in the past. Some of them just need to get a piece, or at least a hug, or some income other than welfare.

#5 riddle wrapped in enigma. His passing yardage in NE SB loss, 2nd or 3rd highest. O-line, TE wilted when HE needed them most. i love JJ but straight talk is when other teams absolutely need winning drive more often than not it comes too easily. Cards last year. NE in SB win, St Louis in championship game. Football, ultimate team sport, one man cannot do it. #5 has his strengths and weaknesses, ARs job is to compensate for them. To me, in big games AR more suspect than #5. Banner and Jeff laughing all the way to bank.

If the Eagles win the superbowl what will you negative so called fans have to say then about Mcnabb? Will you complain that they should have won by 30 points vs 3 points. Will you blame him for not saving the whales or solving world hunger? The best QB in team history and this is how you treat him. Perhaps you would prefer Rodney Pete back.

I like Jack DelRio and I wish him well. But, I think he is aiming a bit low by signing former Eagles who either couldn't cut it (Considine) or are on the downside of their long and successful careers (Tra Thomas) to start for the Jags. The Eagles used to be that kind of team, if I remember correctly. Does the word mediocre ring a bell?

Sometime you wonder why McNabb stayed with Eagles. It was probably because of Reed. Jerry Jones would have paid anything to get McNabb. Jerry spend 4 years trying to find his McNabb through Cunningham and Carter. McNabb would have served himself better to move to other NFC East Team and win a Super Bowl.

No Eagle quarter back has "ever" won a super bowl. Eagle has not "ever" won a super bowl. Therefore, it is dilusional for Eagle fans to set the standard a "winning" a super bowl or bust. McNabb gives Eagles a great shot at winning a super bowl. He would have won multiple SB if he was with any other NFC East team. McNabb has made Eagles the top dog in NFC East, with total of 11 SB championship in the division highest among all NFL division. Eagles day of glory will be over with McNabb's departure. Just pray that they can win one while he is still here.

the cowboys arent that GREAT of a team overall. i see them going 10-6, hey roy williams! skins will go 8-8 roughly again. the giants are the biggest concern but if we went as far as we did and got a lot better, why shouldnt we win? mcnabb will be up and down as usual with that stupid smile, but i see 11-5 and a division title perhaps b/c of tiebreaker

the negative n idiotic posts r one reason d most passionate fans in d nfl continue to b scorned.mcnabb is a quarterback we dreamed of all dem years with cast offs n scrubbs leading us to losing seasons.u cant win the superbowl if ur not a winning qb guiding a winning team through the playoffs but it takes more than the qb, go ask elway who is revered but took 14 years to win one and that was only with terell davis carrying the load. yes he lost 3 superbowls by blowouts before td came along. mcnabb lost one by 3 to the team of the decade.betcha elway wouldnt hv lasted 14 years before winning one .mcnabb u got 4 more years : ). enjoy 5 while he's here no qb is perfect they all need weapons a solid team n some good luck to win it all.hey to all who think ur a loser if u dont win a chasmpionship, how many hv u won ? interleague play, high school, pop warner give me a break ur d real loser waiting on someone else to make u feel good about urself.im enjoying d any reid era yeah we need a ring but it sure beats the 90's post reggie n randall etc.

Does someone's brother-in-law work at ESPN? Bring back Joe Theisman to the ESPN booth. Got tiring last year with Jaworski picking the Eagles to win every week. Not very objective.

ok let me adjust the puking comment because the only photo I could find was of him puking in that '06 Tampa game where Bryant kicked the 62-yarder. http://deadspin.com/209400/donovan-mcnabb-has-a-weak-constitution As far as the SB incident I'm just going by what multiple players in that huddle have said -- and I'd think they'd know better than you or I. In any case, my basic point was that his combined 1-5 record in NFC Champsionships and SBs isn't exactly sparkling, and I challenge him to step it up these next two years

Hey 'Stigs". Your life must have little value. It's June and you are still caught up with 5 seasons ago. From what I have gathered, there are 20+ other eagles that have decided the outcomes of each of our big game losses. Was that Donovan out there flailing as Joe jurevicius tore us up a few years back? Oh wait that was also him lunging at Duce mccallisters shoestrings a few years back wasn't it? Last year he got us the lead against Arizona, and then played on defense and coughed it right up, didn't he? Wow I didn't realize he was playing on both sides of the ball!! Get over it buddy. True he has had some big games where he hasn't pulled a Brady or Montana but he hasn't always had the full team support. He is good enough to win it all. He just needs help. Eli manning ben roethlisberger Trent dilfer. The list of qbs that aren't nearly at the level of dmac but have won is ridiculous. Shut up with your throw up comments we are sick of hearing it!

relly142 regardless of who is at QB the Eagles will not regress that much b/c they're pretty much loaded with young players up and down the roster. Point is, it's a team sport and takes more than one player to win. Feeley and Detmer combined to go 5-1 when McNabb went down in '02. In '06, Garcia posted a 95.8 rating and led them to an NFC East title and a playoff victory. Again, look at McNabb's playoff numbers. The front office has done everything short of dance for the guy: they gave him a $100-plus million contract; then re-worked the last 2 yrs to give him more money; and they further appeased him by getting him his weapons on offense. It's been 10 years, it's time to put up or shut up! This is Philly; anyone who thinks it's moronic to demand excellence from your team needs to go be a Lions fan

Also the one clueless person who said Mcnabb should have declined and given the money to Sheldon Brown is an idiot, its up to the front office to give the money not the players. Also Sheldon has 4 yrs left on his deal, he has never made a pro bowl and the Eagles have paid him already close to 30 million for a guy who is not even the best at his position. The Qb is helad to a different standard in the NFL, and the rules are different thats just the way it workd. learn the game of football.

Without Plaxico, or any 6'6" wide receiver for that matter, you can count the Ginas on doing absolutely nothing offesively with that hack of a quarterback. Not to say the East isn't one of the toughest divisions defensively, beacuse they are, but the two big receivers are gone and you can bet DeSean will be one of the tops in this division. And once again, to beat a dead horse, thanks for watching and supporting haters. You bring so much to the table and, as usual, keep giving Philly fans 50% of the vote for biggest idiots in sports.

Give it a rest fans (or should I say haters?) All will be right with the world come September. Even if McPaid falters down the stretch, I think our offense and defense will be enough to get us to the NFC Championship game again. I can't Super bowl yet because I don't have enough confidence in this team to win it all. But if they don't.....get ready for the Kubb Show from then on out!

palmyra 21: DMac has thrown 12 picks in 12 playoff games and has an 80.1 career playoff rating. Considering his 1-4 record in NFC Championship games, and remembering those shots of him puking all over the field in the SB, I don't think it's a far cry to say he wilts under pressure

Jaws is right....but McNabb's legacy will be the number of Rings he will wear...and the same is true for Andy.....Nothing else matters....

Way to go out on a limb and pick the Eagles to win the East, Jaws. If it weren't for your bad play in Super Bowl XV we would have won a Championship. So I guess you know all about keeping a QB happy and he will produce.

Any one of you fools would milk a team for all you can get, so dont act like he begged for it, they paid the man, its a business. We say we as fans of a team, whats so hard to understand about that. The phils won it all, and it was exciting for rays and phils fans, but obviously not some NYer or any of the other losing teams that season. Gee lets see big market teams in the finals every year, how fun. Eagles will again be contenders, thats all you can ask for, a chance and never say never just ask the NY Rangers, Bucs, Marlins, Penguins, Phillies Fans...and on and on...thats why you play the games haters. And oh ya, Eli Manning fans, a bomb and a prayer.

he wilts under pressure? Seriously, he has like 10 playoff wins and he did bring the birds back in the NFC championship game to take the lead 25-24. I wonder if Marino played here if he would be kicked to curb by you folks.

MFPhils......So, you and Jaws are saying McNabb is a narcisist and he should get paid more to feel better about himself. Whatever happened to you will get nothing and you will like it?

While I for one am not a McNabb basher, I'm not exactly a blind endorser of the guy. After 10 yearsand 0 SBs, he pretty much is what he is. And of all people I talk to outside of Philly who know football (coaches, college players, sports writers, etc), nobody really views him as being all that special. To me, he's an above average QB in the regular season, but come playoff time he always wilts under the pressure (fair or not, it's what happens; look at the numbers). That said, he's obviously better than Kolb or any other option we have, so in that sense he's still got my support

So should that extra money have gone to him or the upgrades he demanded? Maybe if the ring is so important to him he would decline the pacification and have it moved to Sheldon Brown or someone who hasn't made a $100 million in the last 10 yrs. Needing extra money to play well makes me sick. I always root for him but he is a diva..

I agree with em. I think this will definitely light a fire under McNabb. I wish they would have done it last year. I don't think we would have seen such bad outtings from him. Some people need a lot of encouragement to perform at high levels. They need approval and acceptance. McNabb is one of those people. That's exactly why he is one of those people that would perform better elsewhere. The Philly pressure only works on players who feel they are properly being paid to put up with us.

You guys are terrible. Glass always half empty. Are you on medication for depression causing you continually put players down? We are not only going to the super bowl this year but we will win it.

Les BowenLes Bowen has covered the Eagles for the Daily News since 2002. Before that, he spent nearly 13 years covering the Flyers. It took Les only a few seasons after the switch to figure out that there was no penalty box at the Linc, and that the time really wasn't his, despite what Andy Reid kept saying. Les came to Philadelphia and the Daily News from Charlotte in 1983. In the intervening years, he has pretty much lost track of NASCAR, and his accent. He, his wife Barbara, and their two sons live in Haddon Township, New Jersey.

For the last 10 years, he’s been a selector for the Pro Football Hall of Fame. A native of Wilkes-Barre and a graduate of Wilkes University, Domo came to the Daily News from the Fort Worth (Tx.) His first beat at the Daily News actually wa s boxing, which he covered just long enough to lose two sports coats to blood spatter before moving on to football.
