NEW ORLEANS -- We're a little late with the inactives tonight due to some unforeseen technical difficulties. (No, not the absinthe hangover. That was this morning.)
There are two pieces of news, only one of which is likely to have much of an effect on the game. Reserve DE Darryl Tapp is back home with his wife awaiting the birth of a child, neatly opening up a slot to activate DT Mike Patterson, making his 2012 debut after offseason surgery to fix a tangle of blood vessels in his brain. Patterson isn't expected to play a lot tonight.
Of more import: even though safety Nate Allen made the trip, hoping his left hamstring would improve enough to allow him to play, Allen is inactive. David Sims will start and see his first snaps as an NFL safety, against Drew Brees. That sounds like fun.
Other inactives include rookie DE Vinny Curry, third QB Trent Edwards, OL Nate Menkin, and two injured guys you already knew weren't playing WR/PR Mardy Gilyard (hamstring) and OL Danny Watkins (ankle).
