CAN HEAR CLEARWATER CALLING
Eagles Guard Todd Herremans said he doesn’t expect to play in the Eagles’ first pre-season game, Aug. 13, but added that he is not very worried about the foot injury that kept him out of June practices and has him on the sidelines of training camp, at least for now.
“The goal is to be ready for the regular season,” Herremans said today after rookies and selected veterans held their first practice of camp. “I plan on getting some snaps in the pre-season.”
Asked if he would do that in the first pre-season game, though, Herremans said “I doubt it.”
Herremans missed the start of last season with a left foot injury and in the off-season visited a specialist in North Carolina. Neither he nor the team have said when he might be expected back on the field.
Still, Herremans, who the Eagles are counting on to start at guard, said he is in the best shape of his life.
“If there was something drastically wrong, I would be a lot more worried right now,” he said.
He wouldn’t provide much more detail than that, though, sticking to Eagles’ policy of limiting information on injuries.
“You guys always get me uneasy when you start asking me about this. I’m not supposed to talk about injuries, and stuff, so I’m trying to bounce around a bit,” Herremans said, politely telling reporters that he was basically going to evade the most detailed questions, leaving answers to Andy Reid.
Other practice observations:
With no pads on and only pass plays being run, it was a morning for receivers to shine or stumble.
Dobson Collin had a pretty one-handed catch early, drawing applause from fans. Kevin Jurovich also made a nice lunging grab on an errant Vick throw, while Clay Harbor stretched to pull in a Kevin Kolb pass over the middle, kept his balance and kept running.
Blue Cooper had two drops right in front of Andy Reid.
Chad Hall, meanwhile, seems to catch everything in his vicinity. One highlight came when he went to the ground in a Red Zone drill to pull in a Kolb pass for a touchdown.
While there was not hitting, there was contact. Rookies Keenan Clayton and Charles Scott banged shoulders after Scott caught a pass, and tapped each other on the helmet in recognition afterwards.
Simoni Lawrence jammed Cooper on a pass route, nearly knocking him to the ground. Safety Kurt Coleman broke up the last pass of the morning, jarring the ball loose from Martell Mallett. Defensive coordinator Sean McDermott singled Coleman out in his comments after practice.
Kolb looked accurate, while Michael Vick sprayed throws over receivers heads and low and outside. Vick put in additional time throwing with coaches after practice.
