The Flyers today recalled goaltender Jeremy Duchesne on an emergency basis from the Adirondack Phantoms, their AHL affiliate, according to general manager Paul Holmgren.

Duchesne replaces Michael Leighton, who suffered a high ankle sprain in Tuesday's shootout loss at Nashville. Duchesne's call-up was first reported in today's Daily News.

Duchesne, 23, has a 1-1-0 record with a 1.02 goals-against average and .981 save percentage for the Phantoms. His victory was a 4-0 shutout over the Providence Bruins on March 13. This is his first call-up to the NHL. He also has a 9-4-3-2 record with one shutout, a 3.20 GAA and .904 save percentage for the Kalamazoo Wings, the Flyers' ECHL affiliate.

Duchesne, a native of Silver Spring, Md., was picked by the Flyers in the fourth round of the 2005 draft.

WHEN WILL THE FLYERS DRAFT HIGH AND DEVELOP A GOALIE? THE LAST GUY THEY ACTUALLY DEVELOPED WAS #31 - LINDBERG.

If Leighton is out for awhile, this team could miss the playoffs if they have to depend on Boucher. Agreed master3g, the Flyers build their teams from forward back, and not from goal out. Flyers had great success in their first 20 years (2 cups, 6 times to finals). Why becuase they built from goal out and had some pretty good golaies Parent, Favell, Peters, Lindbergh, and Hextall. What kind of success have they had in the following 23 years? 1 time in the finals, and they got swept. As long as they continue to sign the big name goal scorers, and put goaltending last in their priorities, they will never get back to the success they had from 1967 to 87. Flyers need to get back to the original game plan, but Homer is a Clarke clone and will continue to do what #16 did.

Note the user name...been a fan since I went to my first Flyers game in 67'...other than a couple good years by what was a "used" goalie in Parent, they had Lindberg. Hextall had a couple of "interesting" years, and the what? Answer is nothing, when will the Flyers learn? NEVER or at least not until the current leadership moves on. Let's not get an overpaid older guy (Turco/Vokoun), how about someone like Ellis or Mason?

Ellis and Mason both had the opportunity in Nashville to be the guy after Vokuon left, neither has done it, so what makes you think they are the goalies to lead us to the cup. Lundqvist, Brodeur, Fleury, Kipprusoff, Miller, Bryzgalov, Quick and maybe Backstrom or a couple other guys are the goalies who can carry a team, the goalies who are better than what we have. Do you see any of them being available? No??? That's because good goalies don't get to free agency and they don't get traded, so stop crying for a stud goalie because there are never any available genius.

and Luongo and Nabokov. Only 3 of them have rings, or is it 2? Nabokov has never won a big game.
