The Eagles have risen to a second-place tie with the Ravens for most penalties (90) in the NFL this season.

The Packers are first with 98.

In terms of penalty yards, the Eagles are third behind Green Bay and Baltimore.

In Sunday's win over the Falcons, the Birds were penalized eight times for 62 yards. Three of those were personal fouls on the defense. And two of those were on Quintin Demps. Six of the eight penalties were on the defense.

For the bright-side readers out there, the Eagles did not have a special-teams penalty, which is rare.

Here's the breakdown on the season:

Fokou cost us Ellis Hobbs and a game. the Birds would therefore be in first...that's 9-3 to you and me, Russ.

Makes you wonder sometimes if the fix is in. A lot of times, like in the Oakland game, there should have been pass interference calls against the Eagles' opponent, but the refs kept the flags in their pocket even though they were standing directly in view of obvious infractions. Yes, the Eagles have committed penalties, but many times it seems the other teams don't get called for stuff when they should.

Nice set of numbers. SPECIAL team with 21 penalties????? How many plays did the SPECIAL team participate to get the 21 penalties???? Offense is on the fields for 50 play, defense is in for 50 plays, how many plays are the SPECIAL team in to collect that huge number???? Coach Reid nees to pay more attention to the Special team coach and players...

Seriously, this has been a season long problem and needs to be addressed NOW. As under manned as the Eagles are you they can't keep shooting themselves in the foot. How many TDs have penalties cost us so far? How many opponent's drives have we kept alive by penalties? It's ridiculous and Demps may be the dumbest of them all. It goes back to that stupid hit on Warner last year with him.

For a relevant article, the author should also cite the fact that the Eagles are the third youngest team in the NFL. Not an excuse, but understandable. But for those of you that dislike Reid, continue the Angeblo lines.

Amazing. No special teams penalties last week? Maybe Daisher is finally coaching? We'll see.

Dopespotter - great point. There are a number of players who are in their rookie or 2nd year in the NFL: Antonio Dixon, Moise Fokou, Macho Harris, Jeremy Maclin, LeSean McCoy, Eldra Buckley, Quentin Demps, DeSean Jackson, Trevor Laws, etc. Then there are the guys who are playing significantly expanded roles on the team, like Brent Celek, Winston Justice, Akeem Jordan, etc. Then there are also all of the guys that are just new to the team, like Jason Peters, Leonard Weaver, Sean Jones, Stacy Andrews, Will Witherspoon, etc. That is a lot of NFL inexperience coupled with a great degree of general unfamiliarity with the Eagles. This team really needs to grow and gel together. The limited time that they have had together, in addition to the key injuries... Let's put it this way: I'm really looking forward to seeing how the team does through the next few weeks, and DEFINITELY next year!

Tpizza - good call on McNabb, it's also his fault the Sixers lost ten in a row and the Flyers are on a skid. He should also do something about this Halliday thing. McNabb is such a whiner when it comes to having faith in a depleted team, offensive line injuries and horribly scattered defense. It's all Donovan. He should have stopped Tiger from cheating on his wife too. He's never done anything for this team, ever. Worst QB in Eagles history. Horrible stats. Haters ROCK!

tpizza...i like that hit on Warner. He didn't do anything the rest of the game until that drive that killed them. You know, after McNabb brought them back with a lead and the defense captained by team-leader Dawkins failed to make a big stop. You know "the hear and soul of this defense" Brian Dawkins. Who fell on Carolina's first TD in the 2004 NFC Championship game, where the ball hung up in the air FOREVER. Oh, and the same Dawk who led the defense in all the second half touchdowns vs. the Patriots...when one stop was needed. Yep, the heart and soul. McNabb did not have a great game, but he managed to get them leads, only to see the defense blow it. So who's fault is it, again?
