Two of the more intriguing additions to the Eagles -- to say the least -- have been Michael Vick and Jeremiah Trotter.

Here is what we know about each and their role, at this point:

MICHAEL VICK

Maybe we’ve been looking at the Michael Vick thing all wrong.

He got just one snap before kneel-down time Sunday, but it was a 4-yard run for a first down on third-and-1 from the Giants’ 15 near the end of the first quarter.

Regarding the continuing question, “Why have him around?’’ Well, you need three quarterbacks. Vick essentially is A.J. Feeley. If the Birds still had Feeley, would he have converted any third downs Sunday? No, he would have worn a baseball cap and congratulated guys as they jogged off the field. And now the Eagles have Jeremiah Trotter to do that, anyway. (We kid, Trot, we kid.)

JEREMIAH TROTTER

Speaking of Trot, though, it’s pretty clear his role now, as Will Witherspoon gets situated, is mostly ceremonial.

Trotter hinted at that late last week when he talked about how happy he is just to be in the locker room again, etc.

Maybe Trot can scrape off enough rust to provide a little more on-field help at some point, but in the meantime, as long as he does what he’s supposed to do on special teams and provides a voice of experience for younger teammates, where’s the harm? You’d rather have some guy from another team’s practice squad doing that?

Of course, if something happens to Witherspoon and Trot really has to play, this might look a little different.

IN BIG D

And if there is any doubt as to how the Cowboys figure to be looking at this game and what it means, read this column from the Dallas Morning News' Jean Jacques Taylor. Pretty interesting stat that the Eagles under Andy Reid have beaten the Cowboys eight times by at least 20 points. That includes the 44-6 drubbing in the regular season finale last year.

DONOVAN NOMINATED

Eagles quarterback Donovan McNabb is a finalist for the FedEx Air NFL Player of the Week. McNabb threw three touchdowns in the win over the New York Giants. The other finalists are Brett Favre and Tony Romo.

Fans can vote at NFL.com/FedEx until noon Friday. The winners will be announced Friday evening on NFL.com.

Vick is till a work in progress.....he is not superman and being away two years is a bigger hurdle than all of us understand......as to Trot....a nice idea but his speed and lack of abliilty to handle the pass coverage in his area makes it a mistake.....the good news he is a classy guy and a good influence in the locker room

That's been the obvious role for Vick all along -- get an important first down and be a third string QB. The media has played everything up much bigger, and Reid obviously has tinkered with the idea of some incredible Wildcat package. Next year they have a more dangerous 3rd string QB or trade bait.

I still feel like they must be saving something more significant for a more meaningful game. I thought the NY game might be it but it became a blowout so early. Is there not an option rollout where he can laser it deep to Jackson or Maclin or keep it and run for 5 yards? I still think there's more to come from Vick but maybe I'm just naieve/a homer

I've been thinking the same thing jabostick. If Reid was plotting some big stuff for Vick he's too smart to waste it on cupcake opponents and give film study to the tougher teams. Thought NY game would be it too but that game ended before half time. lol JackV. Comments removed must've been from the classless cowgirl fans

I read that article you referenced.....very thoughtful and provoking read. The guy refers to us as the "hated" Eagles.Took us a long time to gain that status! I remember....:step into the 'wayback machine' with me. Many years ago, Roman Gabriel and friends took our team down to Dallas for a Sunday afternoon game. We were looking like we meant business two or three games into that season, and Tom Landry and his band of evil doers were coming off a super-bowl year I think, and they were real good. Po James ran like a man possessed, and Gabriel blew some sweet notes from his cranky 'pipe'. Our way overmatched team played exceptionally well in a tight, close loss. At the news conference I had expected Tom Landry to say a couple nice things about our effort, guts, and other stuff regarding the Iggles. First question came from a Philly writer regarding our effort, and perhaps a "moral victory", over the 'Boys, because we were having such a better statistacal day than Landry's men did. It was a very good question, and I expected Landry to be slightly laudatory in his response. This exact quote, while waving his hand dismissively was "Statistics are for losers...next question?" I have hated the Cowboys ever since.
