Eagles Interviews in Atlanta Today, Denver Sunday
The Eagles' head coaching interview process started today in Atlanta with Falcons defensive coordinator Mike Nolan, who is the former head coach of the 49ers, and special teams coordinator Keith Armstrong, sources close to the situation confirmed.
The Birds are scheduled to interview Denver Broncos offensive coordinator Mike McCoy on Sunday in Denver, a source said.
Assistants from playoff teams with byes must be interviewed this week. The Eagles were scheduled to talk to Falcons offensive coordinator Dirk Koetter, as well, but he signed a contract extension and will stay in Atlanta. It is unusual for a special teams coordinator who hasn't done any other job in the NFL to get a lot of head coaching buzz, but Armstrong already has interviewed with the Bears and Chiefs. His special teams are impressive, but he also satisfies the "Rooney Rule," which stipulates teams seeking head coaches have to intrview a minority candidate.
Next week is the window for assistants from teams playing this weekend, who advance.
Oregon coach Chip Kelly is thought to be at the top of the list of candidates, possibly followed by Penn State coach Bill O'Brien. The Harrisburg Patriot-News has said the Eagles are among three teams expected to interview O'Brien, who would require a $9.4 million buyout from his Penn State contract.

The Rooney Rule is an insult to competent coaches who happen to be black. Fans want winners, regardless of what the coach looks like. Lockyer
Wake the Tonner when Howie has been sent back to the mailroom. hunglikeaton- And keep the Genny Cream Ale coming!
CoettaGarner25 - The world doesn't contain enough Genny Cream Ale to get the Tonner through the next couple of years. It's going to be a painful few years waiting for Jeffy to grow another pair and fire Mailroom Howie.
Yes the rooney rule is garbage. If he is a good coach he will get a job, if not then you are wasting someones time that has no chance of getting the job. Sidewinder7- I think were gonna get another under the radar hire. I would not be shocked at all to be scratching our head and saying "They hired who?".
- Just like when they signed Andy Reid. Andy who?
CoettaGarner25 - You can bet Jeff and Howie are holed up trying to figure out a way they can show the world how smart they are. We all know how that's been working out.
Rooney rule is racism, not REVERSE racism. Making you choose a coach to interview based on his skin color is straight up racism, making a decision based on race.

Im in the minority and like Mike Nolan as a possibility. Hes a great def coord and maybe, or you hope, he learned from his mistakes the first time as head coach. I wouldnt mind any of the coord from Atl, SF or Sea. peteike- ...how is a black man a minority in the NFL?...
Rooney is a Democrat....no surprises there, huh? What do you expect from a Democrat? TruthTeller01
Jeff and Howie brainstorming. What possibly could go wrong with that ? oldBird
We must all be crazy - what makes us think that Jeffy and HoWEE are going to get a quality coach? Get ready for at least 2 god awful years and then, maybe then, Jeffy will figure it out. In the meantime, lets get ready for some laughs as his Redness shows off the black shirt and shorts in the desert! Like the greatest coach in Philadelphis sports history said they "Got a Winner in Town!" lgm4885
Howie should be working in the mail room not looking for coach in the NFL 658012
