DENVER - These injuries are going to hurt.

Down Blair Betts (dislocated right shoulder) and Darroll Powe (strained left shoulder) for the next 4 to 6 weeks, the Flyers have recalled winger Andreas Nodl and center Jared Ross from Adirondack for the time being.

Both players are making their way to Denver and will be available to be inserted into the lineup for Monday night's game here against the Avalanche.

Betts dislocated his right shoulder for the second time this season. General manager Paul Holmgren said that Betts will begin rehabbing in "a few days." This is the sixth time Betts has dislocated his right shoulder in his career. The Flyers are 11-3 with their fourth line center and penalty killing specialist in the lineup.

"We'll miss him," Holmgren said on Sunday afternoon, "in some areas like we did last time he was out of the lineup."

The Flyers actually received good news about Powe's injury on Sunday. Powe was injured by San Jose's Doug Murray after taking a shot on goal in Friday night's 6-3 loss to the Sharks. The injury was initially thought to require surgery butPowe will begin rehabbing as soon as possible.

With six goals already this season, Powe's absence presents a significant secondary scoring gap in the lineup for the Flyers. That's a void that is unlikely to be filled by Nodl, who lacked a serious scoring touch in his 38 games with theFlyers last year - despite a ton of opportunities. He finished with just 1 goal and 3 assists in 38 games.

Ross, on the other hand, scored when it counted most. Despite going scoreless in 10 regular season games, the Huntsville, Ala., native scored against the Penguins in the first round of the playoffs last year.

Both Powe and Betts should be returning around the same time Simon Gagne is ready to return from his abdominal surgery.

It is unlikely that Riley Cote, who played just 2:03 in Phoenix on Saturday night, would skate on Monday night ahead of either Ross or Nodl.

This is gonna' hurt, and hurt bad. Betts has be an amazing face off guy and penalty killer, and Powe has been one of the most consistent guys on the team. I hope they rebound quicker than everyone thinks...

Dude, is Matsumoto ever going to get a break on this team. He has twice as many points as both Ross and Nodl put together. Nodl has been a huge dissapointment for a second round pick that they were saying was going to be the next Thomas Vanek, not even close. The should have brought up Matsumoto and Pat Maroon, so sick of these career minor leaguers like Ross. Might as well seee if Pat White or Jim Montgomery are still playing.

hmm Ross 7 pts and Nodl 4 pts so far this season. Matsumoto 14 pts (more than both players combined) and Maroon 10 pts. How does this call up make any sense. You gotta let the young guys play, Nodl and Ross proved they couldn't play with the big boys last year, its time to give someone else a turn.

I agree, Matsmuoto and Maroon deserve a chance. Nodl is terrible. I like Ross but he's a midget. Ross did score vs Pens in last years playoffs.

Ross scored a goal is that whole blind squirrel blah blah blah found a nut, he was 0-fer during 10 games in the regular season, and yes he's a midget, we have enough of them.

Certainly the Flyers don't have anyone to replace Betts, and Ross could step in for Powe, but I agree they need to give Maroon or Matsumoto a shot. It's probably also going to mean a bigger role for Laliberte, who has shown he can do something with a bit of ice time.

I would just like to see this team reward players for good play in the minors. Nodl has no business being called up right now, he has 1 goal in 14 games!!! And Ross is just a white noise nobody with no shot at having any impact in the NHL. There is no reason Matsumoto shouldn't be called up in this situation , he is a better skater and has better hands then both Nodl and Ross and he's a +4 on the season so its not his defense holding him back. Just makes no sense.
