Jason Babin defended a series of tweets he posted on Tuesday that questioned the loyalty of some Eagles fans.
The Eagles defensive end said that he was reacting to chants about Andy Reid and other Eagles that were coming from some fans at Lincoln Financial Field during Sunday’s 30-17 loss to the Falcons.
“Some of the most vile things I’ve ever heard,” Babin called the chants. “Talking about people’s wives and kids and chanting them. I just thought there’s no place for that in the NFL.”
Babin, one of the more outspoken players in the Eagles locker, took to Twitter on Tuesday, he said, to defend Reid, defensive line coach Jim Washburn and his teammates. He posted the following over two tweets:
“LOYALTY: loy·al·ty: noun, plural loy·al·ties: The state or quality of being loyal; faithfulness to commitments or obligations ... There are 17 teams with the same record or worse than us. Thanks for being loyal fans.......We’ll get it right.”
The Eagles are 3-4 and head to New Orleans for Monday night’s game against the Saints. Fan frustration continues to climb with each loss. Apathy is also starting to set in. The Linc was more than half empty at the start of the fourth quarter with the Eagles trailing, 27-10.
Babin, who leads the team with 2-1/2 sacks, said that’s around when he started to hear the chants that he said were coming from a section near the Eagles' side of the field.
“It was upsetting that a few bad apples were chanting that kind of stuff,” Babin said, adding: “I don’t even want to repeat what I heard, it was that bad. And I’ve got a pretty high threshold for adult jokes.”
There are a small percentage of drunk bleep holes in every large crowd in every stadium where alcohol is allowed, including Eagles games. You get paid a lot of money to play in front of the Babin, so stop your whining and speaking of something you lack yourself. There is no player loyalty in the NFL since the advent of free agency, you all play for the money, just as the owners mostly only care about making more money for themselves and having bragging rights among their peers in the 1% club. And especially coming from you Babin, ye who recently claimed he doesn't even follow football or the NFL outside of playing it to collect a pay check. The Eagles ownership and management have had a complete and utter disregard for Eagles fans and what they have asked for over the past 15 years. I used to admire and defend Jeff Laurie and Andy Reid from the haters and believe they cared only about winning. However they have both become so utterly arrogant and reprehensible that I am embarrassed to even admit I am an Eagles fan now. I'd have more pride rooting for the Browns or Bengals than this team. You lost me around the time TO and McNabb started their little public spat and it's been like watching spoiled brats fight over a toy ever since. ConVick the dog killer was and the NFL's little PR machine stunt were the icing on the cake, jokes on us the fools that keep paying to watch. So bleep you Jason Babin your over rated and over paid and an arrogant jerk that typifies the problem with the paper tiger Eagles team. Bleep the entire Eagles organization top to bottom for being the bunch of arrogant PR phonies that care about money and power that they are. - Anybody ever heard of Joe Kuharick? Anybody living who has been to an Eagles game that was not sold out? Last time I checked Jase, your paycheck comes from playing a kids game paid for by people who live and die every weekend with the Eagles. When your time with Philly is done (sooner rather than later) you will go somewhere nice and live off the millions you made playing that kids game, while schmucks like me will continue to watch and go to the games, putting more money into the pockets of those who could care less. And wasn't it some Giants players who said the Eagles flat out quit in a game last year??? People from Philly work hard and expect to see their worth ethic and mentality displayed on the field by the team that represents them. - I was at the game on Sunday. I've been a "Die Hard" Eagles fan for my entire life. My wife and I flew in from the midwest. We do it once a year. It's the first time that I ever booed my beloved Eagles. They deserved it. It's been a long time that I've seen an Eagle team play with no heart. That inckudes you Babin. You played with no heart. I paid for the ticklets and I have the right to boo you if you play like a pig. I never heard any vile chants, and by the end of the 3rd quarter, you could hear a pin drop.
