Vick points finger at media
Marc Narducci
Could Eagles quarterback Michael Vick be feeling the heat from the media?
Speaking after practice on Saturday, Vick pointed a finger toward the media for making things difficult for the 3-4 Eagles.
Vick didn’t come out and say it was the media’s fault he has committed 13 turnovers, eight interceptions and five fumbles. Yet he gave an honest assessment what he thinks is the negative impact the media has had on the team.
“You guys create a lot of turmoil for us sometimes,” Vick said. “It’s cool man. We have to battle through it.”
It must be noted that Vick wasn’t saying this in a mean tone, just calmly stating his opinion.
“The quieter you all can be, the easier for us that we can concentrate and focus as individuals, as a unit as a team and organization,” he said.
So at least give Vick some points for his honesty. Many athletes suggest that what the media says means nothing.
“We are trying to block out everything,” Vick said. “We understand that is the nature of this business. We are trying to keep everything as low key and mellow as possible with all due respect.”
Low key in Philadelphia and concerning the Eagles?
That might be a more difficult task than remaining turnover-free against the Saints.
The Eagles have a slimmer, quicker offensive line suited for the run but they are pass happy. Why? could someone please tell me? Realtor in Orlando
Perhaps if Vai Sikahema,Ike Reese and many of the other former Eagles who are now "media", this team might have a heart and a pair. I KNOW special teams play would improve. realitybedamned

The biggest way for Vick to shut the media up is to WIN. Don't cough the ball up, avoid interceptions and make some touchdowns and the media will be his pal again. Don't blame the media for pointing out his poor play. Results speak louder than words. bling
The Eagles fight thru this rut with a big game on the ground by Shady rushing for over 100 yds on 20 carries. Vick also airs it out to D-Jax for 2 Td's as the Birds trounce the Saints 34-17!............. Then I wake up a couple of hours before game time. Have some French Toast and watch these losers give up 30 points to Drew and company while Vicki turns the ball over 4 times, losing 34-17. Boom. southpaw26
Not only is this team the worst collection of dogs ever assembled by the Eagles, but they are more concerned with whining about the fans and the media than manning up and attempting to play adequate football. THIS MEANS YOU, BABIN, POSTER CHILD FOR THE 2012 BEAGLES! jman
Reading the worthless mind numbing dribble that comes from the wasted paychecks Philly has for its so called media, why would he blame you. Look Vick is right, most of the garbage that comes from the Philly sports "media" is aimed to insight bitterness and misguided anger from couch potato fanatics. That in turn causes boozed up idiots to scream vile hateful things at players about their families on Sundays. realtruth
Vick is a loser who has never won anything....losers always blame somebody else for their failures....Vick is an awful 11-15 with Eagles over the past three years, Vick leads the entire NFL in fumbles and iterceptions, and Vick has LOST THREE GAMES IN A ROW...instead of pointing fingers at the media, Vick should look at the loser in the mirror. It's not the media that calls a pass play on virtually every down with a overmatched offensive line. The coach does Vick no favors.
Any QB hit 10 or 12 times a game would be ineffective let alone out for the year already - that includes Brees, Rogers and Manning.
If Eli got hit 10 times a game, he'd be in the hospital. The Giants wouldn't allow it, they're smart enough to mix up the play calling so defenses can't tee off on the QB. Not Reid, he knows better. Would like to see Reid get hit 10 times a game, maybe that would knock some sense into him. Vick has not played well but he could easily have 2 broken legs and 3 broken ribs. IF that were the case, Reid would call a pass play. Fan74
@retzlaff and Mount Olympus: Your posts are among the more intelligent ones. A welcome change from the endless ranting which I assume makes certain posters here feel better but doesn't really add anything substantive to the conversation. Of course the media stokes the controversy fire. But they (the media) aren't really helping the Eagles by doing so and they certainly aren't focusing on sports journalism. (For example: Did you know Mike Vick now has a dog? Can't imagine how I lived without knowing that little gem) Of course pointing all of this out doesn't let Vick or the O-Line or Todd B or Andy or Marty or Howard (etc.) off the hook. They are not performing well and this fan base can be pretty brutal when performance does not meet fan expectations. And in Philadelphia, expectations can be very HIGH! sighpatrol
Vick is a media creation. After he pays back all of his current debts, he should split whatever is remaining with the media that created the image of him as anything more than an average QB. jtj06
Stick a fork in this team if you haven't already; once the finger pointing starts it never stops!!!!! JBinPA
puny media.

I HATE MICHAEL VICK!!!!!!! warreninrochester
Dear Mike, if you desire a quiet life, then I suggest you become a Buddhist monk. But since you chose to become a football player, then you will just have to deal with the noisy media. Jen D
COMICAL...thats whats wrong with this team never accepting any blame constantly blame on others....NO LEADERS ON THIS TEAM!!!...You have a Felon leading the team and a punk quitter Jackson throwing his opinions in all the time....The Saints are the worse defense through 7 games in the history of the NFL..Thats right they have given up more yards thru 7 games then any defense in the history of the NFL....So no excuses this week hey MIKE...you should have a career night...Vick is looking to get out of the lineup and he will get his wish this week if he doesnt light things up against this defense....Lose Monday and Reid gets fired next week and Vick goes to the bench...Time to put up or shut up Mike flyers1000
I agree. The media in Philly stirs the pot and creates controversy where none exist just for the sake of ratings. Whether it's the Eagles, Phillies, or to a lesser extent the Flyers and Sixers, they are adept at making mountains out of molehills. The juveniles at WIP in the morning are the worst but Daily News Live isn't far behind. Just look at the headlines here. Inuendos, conjecture and rumors most of which are nonsense. Russ
Do athletes and coaches get it? First Babin attacks the fans now Vick attacks the Philadelphia media. Its time to get a real coach and some player with an attitude and heart. This team has neither and they get that from their coach. How about blaming yourselves and going out and punching someone in the face and when they get up hit them again. That is what Philadelphia players are all about. So Babin, Vick, Reid your an embarrassment to call yourself Philadelphia Eagles Anthony Palma
Vick is 100% correct on this one. The media, and in particular the Philly media, has been trying to drum up this QB controversy ever since Vick's bad game at Cleveland. They know that a large group of fans have always hated Vick for various reasons (Dog fighting, his representation of hip-hop culture, his blackness, etc.)and now that he is having a tough season, it has allowed these same fans to now throw darts at him. The Philly media smells blood and they are feeding these rabid fans and vick haters exactly what they have been looking for. Even when Vick said what he said about the media, he wasn't mean-spirited, rude or crass, yet people have a problem with him expressing his opinion. For some fans, if Vick took a bullet for someone they loved, they would criticize that too. As an African-American, who was raised in a tough environment, I am proud of what he has done to turn his life around and all of the people on this site talking about how much of a loser he is really need to look themselves in the mirror. This man is taking care of his wife and children, his mother and whomever else he decides to assist. In addition, he continues to try and make amends for the wrongs that he's done even though he is under no legal obligation to do so...Give this man a break or a least a fair shake. vicksmyboy
I agree with Vick - to the degree that the media creates turmoil where it doesn't exist... Of course, The main-stream media loves to create a hero and tear them down.. That is the power they have, and they use it to the best uses - to create profit and a place in the conversation..
The truth is that the media is full of talking heads, and very little constructive thought.. USAFirst1
wow, im my view vick has a point, no one here thinks the media goes overboard? the nasty personal comments listed here one after the other just confirm how ridiculous this fan base is sometimes over sports. the media, print and tv know this so they exploit it to their benefit. deatheater
The Eagles and Jeff Lauire are in the entertainment business. As long as fools are willing to spend their hard earned cash on the “Status Quo” NOTHING will change.
What change, stop buying into this football scam…52 years and NO championship, but dopey fans buy into the Philly sport teams motto….wait until next year, and wait …..And wait…..And wait……

This is the softest Eagles team I can remember. The season is over. Blame the fans, blame the media, pay us millions. Apollo Creed
vick and the rest of the eagles need to realize that they were never as good as the national media made them out to be. the local media knew better, they knew the eagles had a lot of holes, not enough capable lbs, no depth or talent at the safety positions, overrrated wr group.this is what happens when you start reading your own press.its time for a complete overhaul. swgaston

Should the media remind him that he spoke of dynasties this off-season?
Should the media remind him that the attention they and the fans have given him has allowed him to live a pretty comfortable life?
I am so over this team. rubicon24

Vick wants "mellow." Try Wistful Vista Rest Home. NewMick314
hes right.
you all should be quiet and let the players play.
its easier for them to concentrate if its quiet.
its all your fault.
the nfl should ban all of you from the games.
you deserve what you get.
you make too much noise.
so stay home.
and an empty quiet stadium will help jeffrey concentrate better too.
nice and quiet.
so michael vick can get his swag back.
bloodymess
He hasn't been all that good on the field this year, but in interviews and off the field, Mike Vick seems to have arrived. Ultimately, that's more important. The media should spend more time on 53 players, and not be hung up on one guy all the time. armchairGM
I think Vick should shut up and play some decent football. The problem is though, he's too short and as a great NBA GM once said, "you can't teach height" CaptainCrunch
They beat N.O. and Dallas and this will all be forgotten. Slow news day, I suppose. Go Birds!!!!!!!!!!! athousandgods
Sadly, Garrett Reid succumbed to the lure of heroin and paid with his life, while Andy Reid succumbed to the lure of Michael Vick and will pay with his job. Beware the sweet songs of the Sirens... dasher
Vick is just looking for the same level of protection afforded Obama by the media. no10leclair
And to try to add to what #retzlaff said - which will be hard - fandom & the media most certainly do cross line so often in the criticism of the teams.
First, the media in theory acts as a checks & balances of society. But when it gets to the point of pandering to their target audience, an audience guided by hate, then the role of checks & balances flies out the window - what you see on WIP for the most part, with the exception of Big Daddy Graham, Ike Reese and a few others.
As far as the fans, like #retzlaff stated, when displeasure for a team's losses manifests itself into challenging the morals & dignity of the athletes & coaches, this is a clearly disturbing behavior that originates not from the way the team plays, but from a person's own personal issues.
I live & die emotionally with the wins & losses just like any other fan...but I could never rationalize this passion manifesting itself into hatred and vile insults that these athletes face. Now, if their actions outside of the game warrant some kind of harsh judgment, then that's a different story.
Sports on the field is entertainment, not a factor of the way we live our lives. Yet, somehow we as a society have twisted the importance of accomplishments of our sports team over the injustices of what is going on in the world today. Meaning, there is more hatred & media attention given to a lousy team than say some institutions like the World Banking system that is causing a global economic collapse. ...Not to divert from the subject of this blurb, but just pointing out the priorities of our society. Reality Speaks- Not sure I know much about world banking but I totally agree with your point about the tenor of the coverage of the eagles and the faction of the local fans that need medication and/or counseling. The not so thinly veiled racism directed at some of the players is inexcusable. The moronic "fire Andy" chants at the games just showcases the low IQ minority of the fanbase. Maybe they should raise ticket prices a good bit more
Mount Olympus
Comment removed.- Thank you for reading both my posts. Please refer to the earlier post attached to this article by "fgomarty". That comment is ample substantiation and, in my opinion, is not an isolated occurrence. Maybe your just jealous because Babin earns millions for playing football and has the nerve to publicly object to the behavior of drunken, unruly losers he can't avoid in the stadium. I don't see why he can't do that AND play football. Are you proud when you watch or attend local games and the fans boo the home team off the field. It doesn't happen in every city and in my opinion, it makes us look like CLOWNS.
Mount Olympus - @Mount Olympus. I know it seems like I go to extremes with some of my examples, but the point I was trying to make is this - Our priorities as a society as far as who & what we direct our anger & hatred towards is completely out of wack.
The same people who got so so so angry at the Eagles lack of effort last week - to the point where they question the team's very ethics - are most likely the same people who could care less about "world leaders" destroying our society that allows us to go & watch these stupid football games...and the fact that you stated that you don't know too much about World Banks is not really a fault of yours, but a society as a whole - which the media plays a huge part in.
Not saying it's WIP's or the philly.com sports section's job to report on why half the world needlessly lives in poverty...but I blaming some of them for pandering to people who take this whole sports thing way out of wack. ...They demonize someone like Babin because he spoke up about things that no human should say to others just because their team lost - or maybe they lost $ on the game, which is another story.
It's just seems like some people think of these football players as their own personal property and can do or say whatever they want to them with no repercussions, but yet won't speak up about the real atrocities that are committed against us. I don't get it...
Mike; please take a look in the mirror! Street Sense13
Oh the #7 Dawg Killa now wants to blame everything on the media including: the lousy performance of the "GM" for his worthless drafts; the lousy performance of the coache;, the lousy performance of the defense regardless of who is coaching them, the lousy performance of the offense...and last but not least his OWN lousy performance-yeah the media caused all of that KimThL

'Are there any black people who can take responsibility for their actions? It sure doesn't seem so. — fgomarty'
This is where fandom crosses the line...this is clear racism. Yet, this commentor doesn't see their own actions are a way of taking out their frustrations & inadequacies, and placing them on an entire race. This is unaccountability in it's purest form that is shown by fgomarty. Reality Speaks
When in doubt blame the media. How pathetic can you get? This season cannot end soon enough. mindstorms
So was he using a soft tone , like when he was torturing dogs and goading them into tearing each other up ? Eugene Prince
With all the media scrutiny they have undergone, with all the transfer possibilities, with all the post-season bowl losses, O'Brien STILL has Penn State functioning at a high capacity. Are you noticing this Mr. Lurie? Fire Reid, HIRE O'Brien. essell
There used to be a time when Reid had full control of what his team would say to the media. Vick's rant to the media is just one more area
that Reid has lost this team! Reid's departure is necessary. larryv
I really don't see a problem with what he said. Our beloved Charles Barkley use to blast the media all the time, now look at him. You give him an Advice Column, he appears on TNT and is well respected, why? Because he spoke his mind. Plain and simple sub21
What is a uniot? Rawkus
Vick is not blaming the media, please read the article, all he said was " you guys create a lot of turmoil for us sometimes". It's his opinion, so let him express it. He is speaking up for the younger players in that locker room whom never experienced the pressure of playing in Philadelphia. sub21
The only thing Vick should be pointing fingers at is his reflection in a mirror.
IBlamefans, blame the media, blame anybody or anything but yourselves. This team is nothing but a bunch of whinny gutless wonders. Unstable1
Vick is a loser and so are the fans that continue to support him. He's never won a thing, never will, and the Eagles are without a title since 1960. Hey you losers, neither Vick nor the Eagles are going to give you a Lombardi trophy. Why not just accept your fate and come on over to the Giants. We win a Superbowl every few years or so. Again, Eagles fans....desperate, clueless, and totally pathetic. baabyrrej
Don't give up on Vick, Monday night he will show you he's going to turn it around. Jim Morris- Wow, What a shockingly stupid comment to make.So is the media only supposed to talk about his good attributes? This team just doesn't get it. I hate to say it, but I can't wait for the end of the season so these idiots can be out of town. Just shut up and try to play smarter football, not sure he is capable of that though
So the media could help out by 'keeping quiet'?If the local media would just keep the results 'secret' then nobody would know about the season so far.I try to judge fairly but I really think that Vick has one of the lowest 'life IQ'S' that I've ever seen in sports. What a genuine,flat-out crybaby. This guy should shut up and be happy that he's been reluctantly allowed back into society. aloha gary- Not everyone can play in this city. It takes a tremendous amount of character, work ethic, understanding and wisdom to last in this city. Vick doesn't have it!!!
- Yes, Lenny Dykstra certainly had character, understanding and wisdom. It doesn't take anything in this town to succeed except realized talent. This fan base would cheer any criminal as long as he played well. Character means nothing. They embraced a dog torturer because he put their team's uniform on. All that piece of trash had to do was play well. Unfortunately for him and the Kool Aiders, he is over rated garbage and always will be.
This is the greatest Eagles season ever as far as I am concerned. Watching Vick flame out and taking that moron Reid with him is priceless justice. This team is 5 years away from competing.
P.S. Foles was a 3rd round pick by the Eagles which means he probably should have gone in the 6th or 7th round. People waiting for him to walk on water may be in for a disappointment. Scope33
Are there any black people who can take responsibility for their actions? It sure doesn't seem so. fgomarty- Are there any WHITE people who take responsibity for there actions?it sure doesn't seem so.You can ask that question about anyone regardless of color.

Bringing in a guy like conVick was destined to ruin team morale and discipline. This is the non-surprising result. We all saw it coming. billy goat
Vick is full of s##t! Man up and play ball! joeace
This team is just falling apart. Blaming the fans, blaming the media, firing asst coaches, team meetings. I was wondering if the players watched the Thursday night game. The Chargers playing in quaint San Diego got booed off the field as they ran to the locker room at halftime. watsonmr
Vick is right. Friend to All
Vick is pointing the finger at the media it happens to be the middle one, but then again they really were not his friends. To use a line from the movie "Jerry McGuire"..."This is show business not show friends" If Vick wants more friends and or fans then he better stop dropping the ball, throwing the ball away, and better start winning games. We pay the Eagles too much money for them to be such pathetic losers when they should have won the vast majority of their games this season. To think last year there was all this trash talk about a "dream team" and now look at them. If continue to play like this we're change their name from the Eagles to the Beagles (no pun intended concerning Vick and the dog reference, but I believe my dog could play a better game than what they have been playing ) Speak-truth-2-power
Well...a couple of things.
Sports are not politics, we don't really need to rationalize all the scrutiny placed on them.
Judging men by fortunes on an athletic field with caustic exposures is rude, no matter how much money they the athletes make. Hey, a player fails, silence is a respectful response to another man. Yelling expletives and challenging their humanity, which fans and writers resort to, is crude and counterproductive.
So, maybe fans should stop using the denial akin to drug addicts when someone points out the truth about fans in a lot of big cities and a media that makes money stoking the furnace of controversy. Bottom line. It's sports we're about. The diversion to capricious and dangerous water and wind, political gridlock and acrimony amongst parties, poverty, murder, death. Sheridan and his ilk go too far, in my eyes pointing out how ludicrous it is for a guys who only dreamed of playing big time sports to be so darn critical of athletes in the name of what? Objectivity. Sure. retzlaff- Finally someone with a brain. Of course he blames the media, they are totally deserving of blame. They do create discord and turmoil. The fact that the media are doing "their job" only makes it more understandable tht Vick is stating the obvious. Discussing the team is one thing but why ignore the faction of fans that Babin referred to, the white trash pathalogical ones? Why is it a surprise when player after player says "they love you when you are winning but..."? Posting mean spirited stuff certainly doesn't make you look intelligent or savvy about football.
Mount Olympus
Way to antagonize the media, Mikey. Uh oh, you're getting mad...hope that new puppy can be protected from you. Izzie
So the head coach fires the defensive coordinator 6 games into the season, after which the defense gets their hats handed to the them, and the fans and media are not supposed to talk about it? If Vick would prefer a quieter life, he should take his money, go back to school and get a degree, then go out and find a job like the rest of us. p-diddy
Except for Sheridan, the sportswriters here will cower under, led by the three creampuffs Bowen, Donnellon, and Hoffman, apologies to Vick will be amply flowing in the next week. They will trip over each other in their attempts to win back Mike Vick's approval. They will be sooooooo sorry.
Taser
Please remind Mike Vick that the Eagles are 11-15 in their last 26 games over three years. the next tome you see Reid or Lurie tell them that. As Mike Smith after says on espn, numbers never lie. mario1239
I'm not trying to live up to New York fans reputation. I'm saying what I've always said about Philly fans, that empty seats don't boo. If you can't stand people questioning your heart then get some of it or get out of here. Maybe tough is a bad way to characterize that attitude, maybe matter of fact would be better. bentlip- @Ben - didn't mean you specifically was just making a general comment as to how I think the Eagles basically get a free ride year in and year out despite obvious shortcomings throughout the organization. Sorry if it seemed I was singling you out.
Scope33
Tough???? The media and WIP in particular have kissed Eagles rear end for the past 14 years. In a real town like New York this horror show would have been over after 6 years.
The fans are soft in Philly too. Though many like to puff their chest out, bottom line is they line up to throw money at Jeffy and his garbage product. Scope33
Tough town, get tough or get out! bentlip
lol, now not only the kool-aid drinkers but the players too are now blaming "the media"...ITS THE MEDIAS FAULT THE OFFENSE IS RANKED 30TH IN THE NFL. IF ONLY THE MEDIA PLAYED ON THE OTHER TEAM INSTEAD OF REAL PLAYERS WE WOULD BE UNDEFEATED. WHY DOES THE MEDIA HAVE TO REPORT STUFF. The only thing standing in the way of Andy Reid and a superbowl championship is...the media. Vince Lombardi made sure there was no media of any kind in greenbay. Especially when he had parties on fridays night with...the media. What a moron. DREAM TEAM 2012 BETTER THEN VINCE LOMBARDI AND THE PHILADELPHIA MEDIA. CharlieGarner25- Michael Vick, Andy Reid, and the entire Eagles organization comprised as is, will NEVER get it. That's all they do is whine about everything and hate the fans. They need a major house-cleaning and soon! The biggest question is why there are so many lapdog fans that keep worshipping this team?
VICK IS NOW BLAMING THE MEDIA...unbeleivable this loser never takes responsibility...hey Vick the media didn't make your awful 11-15 record over the past three years...the media didn't make you the NFL leader in TURNOVERS...and the media didn't make you BOTTOM OF ALL NFL QB'S in ratings...and the media didn't make you LOSE THREE GAMES IN A ROW...Vick stop blaming everyone else and look at the loser in the mirror. Bob112- Well I guess if you think that Vick is the NFL turn over leader then yes the media did do that. Because if you had bothered to even check the facts (http://sports.yahoo.com/nfl/stats/byposition) you would see that the distinction belongs to Tony Romo with 13 Ints.& 2 Fumbles for 15 turn overs. Vick 8 & 5 for 13. Not trying to be devils advocate but Vick is right about how the Negadelphia media skews the facts and puts negativity in the heads of the fans. Dont just read Negadelphia sports read national sports to these Philly sports writers suck always have. Point is I see what MV is saying, its hard to play to your potential when even the people in your own house say your a no good loser.
eagle fan for life
Now the loser Vick wants the Philly media to be quiet and mellow....LOL....what planet does this dope live on, this is the tough Philly media who's job it is to report that the Eagles are playing terrible with a THREE GAME LOSING STREAK....Wow, Vick is now beggin' the media to cover this up and be quiet...pathethic. Bob112- Stuff-it Vick. You used the media on your way to redemption and they tried to make everybody feel guilty for not giving you a second chance after you murdered those puppies. You reap what you sow in this life. DarnelX
