IndyCar slated to return to Pocono in 2016
Race reportedly set for Aug. 21, despite disappointing IndyCar crowds at Pocono for three years.
INDYCAR WILL return to Pocono Raceway in 2016.
Racer.com reports next year's race is scheduled for Aug. 21, the only IndyCar series race in August. Pocono has hosted IndyCar the past three years before what track management described as disappointing crowds.
IndyCar will discuss its 2016 schedule on a conference call Tuesday. Pocono officials declined to comment Monday.
NASCAR released its 2016 schedule Monday, with few surprises. As previously reported in the Daily News, Pocono Raceway and Dover International Speedway in Delaware will continue with two Sprint Cup races each.
Pocono's Cup races will be June 5 and July 31. Dover's dates are May 15 and Oct. 2. Pocono is adding a NASCAR Xfinity series race June 4.
As usual, the 2016 Cup schedule opens with the Daytona 500, which will be Feb. 21.
