I predict Parise is going to go where they offer him the most money for the longest term. It's a business, and he's holding good cards.
I have always liked Carle. I think it's going to come down to how little he'll accept. I wouldn't be surprised to see him try to spread it out over a longer term, 10-year type deal, to keep down the AAV and therefore, cap hit. If he wants Carle to accept a hometown discount, that's the way he'll do it. At least that's the way they've done that in the past. As for statistical analysis in hockey, there's only so much you can do with it. Unless someone has created entirely new statistics that measure individual performance, you can't discern the intrinsic contribution of one player with nine other skaters and two goalies impacting the outcomes. There's always a lipstick-on-a-pig quality to the data.— sklandog- Ryan is not a free agent. They'd have to trade good young players to get him. And while I like him, Zac Rinaldo doesn't count. - I have to agree with Americanitis1 in lambasting Girouxforpresident. Carle is a very good defenseman. He reminds me a little of Doug Crossman. A good defensive dman who is steady and smart, year after year, is VERY hard to come by. I think Schenn could become that and I think Coburn and Carle are there. The deal for Schenn reminds me a lot of the 1981 deal of Mel Bridgman for Brad Marsh. GirouxforPresident, glad you are involved but you sound like a young guy who has a lot of hockey watching in front of him before you know enough to talk with such swagger. Carle is a rare and valuable commodity in this league.— John Green
- Why does frank always interview in his kitchen. Does he want everyone to see his new cabinets that he just got installed from lowes. You have to keep carle and you can't completely rule out Zach, Talbot signed here last year. But I would love, and I think any flyers fan who thinks differently does not know this team, how good would bob Ryan look in Philly.— phillyfan16

- Mike Vick is a huge Matt Carle fan. Why? Because Vick is no longer considered the biggest turn over machine in Philadelphia. Carle showed in the playoffs that he is a deer in the headlights when pressured. He is one of the last guys I want handling the puck in the defensive end, especially against teams like the Devils who aggressively pressure the puck. I'm not saying he's the worst defensemen they have, but he frustrates me and I'd love to see him replaced.— cogs86

- Ok, I'm going to speak to the people who clearly have no understanding of the game hockey, how it's played, how to play it, and how to read your own players. Carle needs to be signed. Our D last year was not very good and Pronger didn't help much giving his injury. Sign Carle, use some of our cap space for another solid D-man. This non-sense of trading Matt Read is preposterous! He had a great rookie year, along with a few of our rookies, and you want to trade him? You're an idiot for even having that thought cross your mind. Stop hating on Byrz!! Yeah he had a decent year, behind an injured blue line, a decent blue line, and a full out attack offense. Not to mention the animosity (US as in fans of the flyers) put on him in a new city, a new organization, a new home! You move to a place, knowing everyone has their eye on you, and you know you'll get attacked for a simple mistake. Stand behind the man we just signed for another 8 years, and who knows, maybe our appreciated for a better goaltender then the past 3 or 4 we had, will rub off.— YourOutOfYourMind

You are clearly the one who does not have a clue about hockey. What games have you been watching the past few years. Carle is a "Short Stick" :"ALWAYS chasing" "Terrible Angles" "Poor Decision Making" Never gets the puck to the net, TURNOVER MACHINE who needs to go !!! WATCH the game and stop telling other people that they don't know the game. The Flyers need SIZE, STRENGTH, REACH and POISE from their Defense, especially come playoff time when you are going up against size (BOSTON,LA,RANGERS,PHOENIX etc..) Carle offers none of these assets. PERIOD ! Not worth at any price !— cookin63 - right on girouxforpresident! also dont forget he is a turnover machine and its always at the worst possible time and more often than not his turnovers end up in the back of the flyers net.— girouxstheman
- People here who harp on the turnovers truly do not understand what they are watching. Turnovers are a result of the forwards not giving the defence an option to move the puck. Carle is the only defenseman the Flyers have that has the ability to skate the puck out of his own end.
Forget over-paying for Parise, and make an offer to Shane Doan. Better all around player at a lower price.— Hexy4GM - Shane Doan is a fantastic team player too. Did anyone here see him on Mantracker? He was fantastic and never gave up on one hellish day being tracked with his nephew. Doan would be great for the locker room and he has talent too. I would love to have this guy. Sadly, it will never happen. — redstaterightwinger
