Vick Able to Watch Practice; No Shady
Les Bowen
It doesn't sound like either Michael Vick or LeSean McCoy will play Monday when the Eagles host the Carolina Panthers.
Eagles coach Andy Reid said both concussion victims remain in Phase 1 of the recovery process, though Reid said he feels Vick is close to being able to move to Phase 2, which would involve exercise. Vick watched the Eagles' morning walkthrough, the first time reporters have glimpsed the QB since he suffered his injury in the second quarter of the Dallas game.
Reid said McCoy, injured Sunday near the end of the Redskins game, has a headache. Rookie Bryce Brown is preparing as if he will start in McCoy's place.
"We'll just take those guys days by day and we'll go from there," said Reid, who said Vick is able to attend meetings this week.
Reid said Jake Scott will start again at right guard. Reid gave an involved answer about the status of the usual starter there, 2011 first-round pick Danny Watkins. The upshot seemed to be that Watkins' ankle is still an issue, but that Scott might be a better alternative anyway. Watkins spoke briefly with reporters and framed the issue strictly in terms of his recovery not being as complete as he'd hoped.
Reid said the 3-7 Birds, losers of six in a row for the first time in his 14-year tenure, are "going to do our best to give the fans a good show. That's what we're going to do, put together something they can be proud of."
Asked about the potential for a bad atmosphere at the Linc, given this season's crushing disappointment, Reid said: "You go play. You make positive things happen, as coaches and players. Make plays. Make positive plays. Fans like that. That's what they want to see ... They're on the same page with all of us. We're stinking it up. We understand that. They understand it. When we're doing well, they understand that, too, and we understand it."
Reid said of Brown, a seventh-round pick, "it looks like he's more comfortable in the offense every week. He's doing a nice job of pass protection; that wasn't his thing when he first came here. Better recognition of the blitzes. And he's a patient runner. When he goes, he goes hard. Big body. Physical player."
Brown, who barely played any college football before leaving teams at Tennessee and Kansas State, has 141 yards on 32 carries this season.
Did Watkins say anything about giving back some of that first round money he hasn't been earning?

As much as I want to blast this Canadian FireFighter....it is our Coach and front office that picked him. And not the first bust by the way......this team is VERY UN-talented and it is all due to Reid. Marty and Reid cannot game plan...cannot draft....cannot time manage...is there any doubt we need someone else here. RealizticFan- only 6 more post gm press conferences. The we can focus on Howie blowing another draft. bhamss12
- I don't think he blew any of them. While I doubt he is a football genius after being a numbers guy, Andy had the final say. These players are his.

Just imagine if Reid decided that since he's getting fired he might as well bring the organization down with him. What would he do worse than what he's doing now? Make the rookie QB throw the ball 50 times and run Shady in garbage time. Sounds like exactly what I would want to do if my goal were to make the organization more of a mess than it already is. The season was lost when Jason Peters PLUS the Center was lost for the season- it is just that simple.
The playmakers are actually good- but they are being BEATEN UP with this injured O-line. saunhi- The season was lost last year when they were 4 and 8 and then fooled themselves with winning 4 meaningless games against bad teams and good teams resting their starters.

If nothing else, Bryce Brown is an improvement over Ronnie Brown. SteveS11
What is the sense in putting Vick out there even if he is healthy..what does anyone gain. Vick will not be back next year thats a guarantee...You must play Foles the rest of the way to see if there is anything there...If they put Vick back out there then the message is loud and clear..."What they have seen of Foles so far in games/practice convinced them that he is not a starting NFL QB" flyers1000
McCoy injury, Andy was trying to win the game. No he wasn't. If he was Watkins would have started on the OL. Drew777
So nice to know that the guy signed off his couch is a better option than the first round pick... blackscreen
"They're on the same page with all of us. We're stinking it up. " With that, Andy lifted his right leg up, and a horrible stench followed which emptied the room. watsonmr- I've had brown on my fantasy bench knowing for some reason McCoy would be injured this year. Watch some tapes on YouTube, this guy is the real deal. Can't wait to see him start a full game. I like shady, but brown is a beast.
Let's go Carolina, I want the higher draft pick. As long as Reid stays as coach the rest of the season we will get it. Please Jeff wait til the end of the season to fire Andy, we need the higher pick. power808
