THOMAS: EAGLES HAVEN'T SHOWN ANY INTEREST; SHAWN SPRINGS VISITING BIRDS
Bob Brookover
Tra Thomas left Jacksonville without a contract, but he showed zero optimism today when asked if he still thought there was a chance he'd return to the Eagles next season.
"They haven't shown any interest in bringing me back, so as hard as it is I have to move forward," Thomas said via text message. "The Eagles have always been the team I wanted to play for, but now I have to go to the team that wants me."
Thomas, who returned to his South Jersey home to celebrate one of his son's birthdays tomorrow, didn't say if the Jaguars would be that team, but Jacksonville is the only place he has visited thus far. It's also roughly 100 miles from his boyhood home in Deland, Fla.
The Eagles also announced that veteran cornerback Shawn Springs has arrived in town for a visit with the team. Springs, 33, has played the last five seasons with the Washington Redskins, but was released by the team Saturday as part of a salary-cap purge. He had 12 interceptions in his five seasons with the Redskins.
Several team sources indicated that there's a decent chance Springs leaves Philadelphia without signing a deal.

The Eagles need a youth movement. If it hadn't been for dumb luck they would never have been in the playoffs at all, and there was more than one point in the season that the team seemed dead in the water. I can remember early on last season a game against the Bears where the Eagles were not able to score on a first and goal inside the five. The Eagles tried and were not able to run the ball in. When I saw that I knew it would be a long season, and it was. The offensive line that could not punch the ball in against the Bears on a first and goal within the five needs upgrading. Tra Thomas played his career with the Eagle, and he used to be a good player. I'll remember him fondly. Bobby257
Business is business. Will miss B Dawk, but have memories of him. Folks talking about boycotting, giving up there tickets. Right. Tired of this debate of how the front office is unfaithful and how they did certain players. The players know it's a business and the rest of the NFL. Stop listening to WIP and what they think is right. The last time I looked they don't own a penny in the organization. And the last time I looked over a game stat, I did not see Angelo, Rea, or anyone else behind a microphone rushing for 110, intercepting, or knocking down a pass. And if I hear one more call into there show crying like a natural, I will you find a life. There's a sayin in life...Shut up, put up or just go away. As far as going, will be there this year, next year etc. And win they do win the trophy, I will ask WIP and crier's to there station stay home. The Crow has spoken..... STIII
The Eagles have become a joke. Their depth chart lists 45 unique players currently under contract and healthy (I guess that's why they don't have Max Jean-Gilles and Jack Ikegwuonu listed). Their roster is padded with such stalwarts as Danny Amendola (WR), Amon Gordon (DT), Charleston Hughes (LB), Shaheer McBride (WR) and Byron Parker (S) in order to get to 58. At this time of year, most teams have more than the 45 person limit legitimately penciled in on their depth charts. The Eagles have Nick Cole listed as backup at three OL positions. They have Dan Klecko listed as starting FB and backup DL. When the Eagles let Troy Vincent and Bobby Taylor go they were ready because they had drafted Lito and Sheldon. But this time the cupboard is bare. Their depth chart lists a total of 5 DBs. 3 CBs (Asante, Sheldon and Joselio) and two Ss (Q Squared – Quintin Mikell and Quintin Demps). They can’t even field a dime package right now based on their depth chart. It wouldn’t be so bad if it weren’t for the fact that they have two TEs (really one since Schobel has been a bust as a free agent pickup - 27 receptions in 3 yrs with the Birds). Add to that the fact that they don’t have any legitimate OTs who are 100% healthy and under contract (Depth chart lists Chris Patrick (a practice squad player) and Stacy Andrews (knee surgery) as starters. Runyan and Tra are FAs. And Winston Justice is available for a case of beer in return in a trade). Then add the fact that at RB we have a back coming off surgery (Westbrook) and another bust (Lorenzo Booker 20 carries for 53 yds in '08) and two FBs who are out of position. The only places where we have legitimate depth are WR (though one could question the value of those players not named DeSean), QB, LB and DL. But heck, we planned ahead and used our top picks in each of the last two years to draft a backup QB and a backup DT. So if the NFL changes its rules to play QB and WRs vs DLs and LBs, then we're set right now. fetchez la vache
Contemplating becoming a Broncos fan - this organization is like a communist regime - with Reid & Banner playing the roles of Col Klink and Sgt Shultz. AllDawk_AllTheTime
Thanks for the input Dawk- not sure the Nazis were Communists though. Shaggy
Y-E-S they should definitely resign Tra at least for one more year of service. Too many good years at the left tackle position to rely on a new face... Remember Tim Kerr
@ bobbyd-- I agree 100%. People need to quit complaining, and let Andy do his work. Andy has never let a player go (because of age) who then went on to be an all pro or a significant impact player post-Eagles. kgochenour
hopefully their plan is to make a clone or reggie white and jerome brown... Bring back gang green. mike litterous
"The Fool's Gold Standard" applies to this Eagles organization...as long as Lurie can fill the seats at Lincolin Financial Field, does he really care what the fans think? Frugal, arrogant and smug is the best way to describe Lurie, Banner, and Reid respectively. McNabb will be gone within two years and this team will turn back into mediocrity sspn09
Kolb was brought in as insurance for McNabb's torn ACL, not to replace him as the future of the franchise. As seen in the Baltimore game he will not suplant McNabb...as for Springs, he is "over-the-hill" so i do not want them to sign him...it wouldnt make sence to let Dawking walk and sign a man 1 year younger to replace him. All i want to see for the rest of FA is a trade for Bolding/Holt/Edwards. You do that and you can get everything else through the draft. traugdog420
For all of those complaining, can you please give up your season tix???? I am on the wait list. PLAYERS GET OLDER AND THEIR SKILLS DECLINE!!! scars73
NFL Network talked about Dawkins going to Denver...they said Dawk may have trouble playing in a much weaker defense than surrounded him in Philly...they said there is no way Philly could match the offer and Dawkins will likely find out what many other former Philly players find when they leave for the money deal...it isn't as good as they thought. The coaches watch the tape - they know the game and what options they have. ziggy
If Reid and Banner were wrong half as often as their critics, they would have been out of here years ago. citizenkane
I disagree with the remarks about Dawk and how he's 35 and on the decline. Wasn't he the defensive player of the month in Dec and one our top players the second half of the year. I also love the fact that Shawn Springs is here visiting the team now. He is only 2 years younger then Dawk with much less talent who gets hurt more, and by the way doesn't even play safety...way to go GOLD STANDARD.Hopefully Springs will accept Banner's buy one year get one year free coupopn. nate28
