Stacy Andrews to Eagles
A source close to the situation has confirmed a report on Profootballtalk.com, that Bengals offensive tackle Stacy Andrews is signing with the Eagles.
Stacy Andrews to Eagles
Les Bowen
Editor's note: Click here for a Brian Dawkins update.
Stacy Andrews was wearing a Reds cap when he arrived at Philadelphia International Airport Friday afternoon on Delta Flight 6438 from Cincinnati. Let's hope Eagles head athletic trainer Rick Burkholder or security chief Butch Buchanico, who accompanied Andrews into a waiting limo, made a stop for some more appropriate apparel on their way to the NovaCare complex, where the Birds' new right offensive tackle was to undergo a physical that presumably will cement the deal to make him Jon Runyan's successor.
Officially, Andrews, who underwent reconstructive knee surgery last month, is "visiting" the Eagles and will talk to
reporters at NovaCare Saturday, presumably when details are wrapped up.
Andrews, 27, the brother of Eagles right guard Shawn Andrews, said the prospect of playing alongside his brother was thrilling.
"That would be great. It'd be a great feeling. It'd be a boost for Shawn and me, (and) the organization. It's something I'm looking forward to .. It'd be great to be playing right beside my brother, dominatin' over there.
"It was something we've been talking about every since we first got to the league" in the 2004 draft, he said. Shawn went from Arkansas to the Eagles in the first round, Stacy went from Ole Miss to the Bengals in the fourth.
Stacy was franchised by the Bengals last season, but tore both his ACL and his MCL at Cleveland Dec. 21 and underwent reconstructive knee surgery Jan. 7, though there is talk that the surgery wasn't as bad as feared, that the MCL would have healed on its own. He is 6-7, 342.
"Doing great, doing great," Andrews said when asked about his knee. "I'm ahead of schedule."
He said he will be ready for the start of training camp.
"I was asleep when my agent (Rich Moran) called me," Andrews said. "It was a great wake-up call."
The acquisition of Andrews would seem to signal the end of Runyan's courageous nine-year run with the Eagles, in whch Runyan played every game, through several injuries, including a knee problem that required microfracture surgery following the past season. He became a free agent this morning.
The Moving the Chains blog on philly.com is doing a good job of keep abreast of various other free agent dispatches. To sum up what's on there and some other stuff we've heard elsewhere today, Correll Buckhalter apparently will sign with Denver and, most gasp-worthy, Brian Dawkins is visiting there, Atlanta apparently has designs on L.J. Smith, and Sean Considine is visiting Jacksonville. That latest one was pointed out to us on scout.com.
No word on anything involving Tra Thomas yet, here or elsewhere.
The winds of change are inevitable. Just like with Trotter, Dawk's time is up. Thanks for the memories and I hope to see you as a part of the staff in the future. Sorry Lurie and his scheisters couldn't buck up offensively and get you a ring. cm3737

three words - reconstructive knee surgery - make this one a giggler chollie
nothing on the denver post website about dawkins. not even a mention that he's visiting. didn't check the rocky mountain news site. wocka-wocka. tdcuse
So, let me get this straight ... the Eagles big move is to sign a guy coming off major knee surgery, but they let Buck and BDawk go (plus Lito and Considine)? And, they're $40 million under the cap. MorbidCuriousity
Thats it folks. Dawkins is no longer a bird. He signed with the Broncos just a little while ago. Banner and the Eagles should be ashamed. The best leader on the Eagles is gone. They just stabbed the heart of all Eagle fans today. Its a sad day for the birds. They have no replacement either. Will Demps? If I recall, he gave up two td's in the NFC Championship Game against the Cardinals. GoBirds77
According to AOL sports Brian Dawkins has SIGNED with Denver, with an offical announcement coming as early as tomrrow. I hope this is not true... Eilexx

I was hoping they'd sign that Ravens center who can also play other O line positions. Signing a 350 pound guy coming off late season knee surgery to keep his brother's head on straight doesn't seem like that great of a move. But if they don't sign 20 I'm done with this team anyway - at least until they overhaul the FO. steelydad
Fantastic move! Now we have one brother with emotional problems and another with physical problems. Certainly seems like the move of a well organized management. Let's see how many super bowls have they brought us....that would be zero! mindstorms
anyone else concerned that dawkins is visiting another team? tdcuse
Hey Today's People maybe you missed the news, Runyan had micro-fracture knee surgery and his prognosis is much more in doubt than Andrews. brs50
Great move...we need to get younger on the O-Line. nervegenerator
Denver signed B Dawk - a big F you to jeff lurie!! ChekUrFax- Man, now we're going to have two guys on the O-Line with their full names on their jerseys. This is going to look awful. kev
- They are not going to sign Dawkins. They are going to sign Thomas. Brian Dawkins made the pro bowl on reputation. He has lost more than a step, although he is still a warrior. There is no replacement for Tra Thomas. He is staying here. I love the 2 Andrews brothers together. It will be good for both of them. Horlet
Swap a guy that hasn't missed a game in 9 years for a guy that had ACL surgery last month, what could possibly go wrong? MD20202020
I had a feeling this might be in the works....but who knows how Andy's mind works. But I AM assuming that his knee was checked out to the satisfaction of Medical Staff? If this DOES go through, I wonder why Tra was not re-signed? Is he going to let an unknown or a back-up take over the spot? I shudder to think, considering the wonderful moves he made toward getting a fullback last year. And unless he packages both first round picks to move up and take the best OT available in the first round....well his track record there speaks volumes!(Tra was here before Andy, and Big Jon was signed in Andy's second year, still the best signing he ever did by the way.) And every other draft pick he's made towards replacing them has gone right in the toilet. Great.....Donavan does not have to worry about not having a #1 type reciever now, because he probably won't get enough time to find and throw now anyway. TBear
gordy, I love your plan! Super5
They let Runyan go they are IDIOTS. Fire REID!!! Nezhy
Eagles only get guys coming off injury. Hence they're cheaper. Nezhy
The Eagles stink. They are cheap and don't pay their taxes. However, the city just lets them off the hook. The city should repossess their stadium and not allow them to use it until they pay their 8 million. nfglp3184

TodaysPeople...Runyan was making about $600K and Andrews will make much more than that. Do you think on your own or do you just blurt out Cataldi whenever you read an Eagles comment? TheNationHimself
todayspeople....come on pal, stick with truth here. Runyan definately would cost less money than andrews. the guy is only in his fifth year! vincemcd
Seeing BDawk in another team's jersey would bring tears to my eyes. Stop screwing around Andy and re-sign the soul of our team. KevinRx
I'd like to thank Mr. Runyan for his time here and what he's done for the Eagles. Pound for pound, he was one of the best signings ever by this team. davekrieg

digg5555 He plays the right tackle position. Tra is on the left side. hassan114- The Eagles website has already taken down the advertisment with Dawkins in it for the Eagles cruise. albertpa
TERRIBLE MOVE! This guy has a bad knee ALREADY. Wow, it's been reconstructed. Great. So he'll last 3 years instead of 2. Bad Move. Eagles will go 6-10 this year. morvak- B-Dawk is on his way to Denver, where they will probably offer him multi-year deal. This is horrible. albertpa
Just heard Dawkins is on a plane to Denver... The Eagles are a heartless franchise. dabirdz215

Zorro, The eagles wil not take a running back in the first round. They don't need to and it is not there style. Besides any running back they take in a draft is relegated to punt returns and about 3 touches a game. They have a return man already. i heard they were interested in LJ who wants out of KC. If they make a play for him it will be three years too late. They could have had him when he wanted a starting job before holmes got injured. instead they will get a whole lot of attitude and worn down tires. If its true. Zues- REPORT: ON NFL.COM...DAWKINS VISITING DENVER TODAY TO TALK WITH TEAM. teenwolf
City of Brotherly Love baby!!! clevland
"Better than Runyan??" Maybe..but he's 9 years younger JamesJ
First he's named Stacy, Second; you can't replace either Runyan or Tra, they are both some of the best OT in the game, and they could block for me anyday. Let's hope the rumor i heard while driving around Boston isn't true either, Dawkins isn't coming back, if that happens i've lost all respect for Eagles management. Of all people Dawkins deserves to stay here. Let's go Birds, help me believe. I may not live in Philly but i still bleed green. richiep83- I'm so glad Buck is going to Denver. He deserves the shot and it's the perfect fit for him. He'll do awesome there. thefadd
- DID ANYONE HEAR OF THE DEAL PROPOSED AS A RUMOR ON STL WEBSITE AND PHILLY WEBSITE...ABOUT REGGIE BROWN AND A PICK...FOR TORRY BIG GAME...64 CATCHES FOR 800 YDS ON A BAD TEAM LAST YEAR HOLT....ILL TAKE HIM OVER HOUSH...HOLT WILL BE 33 IN JUNE...HOUSH WILL BE 32 IN SEPT. If the knee is good...good move...and hopefully he will be a stablizing influence on Shawn...Sorry to see Jon go.... nuggett
Runyan is DONE. Stacy Andrews is a very good tackle. And the dope who said "cheaper" than Runyan...learn football you fool. Runyan would be lucky to get 1 or 2 million. He took a pay cut to stay with the Eagles last time. majrladyr

Does the Andrews family happen to have another member who plays left tackle? If not, Tra needs signed, now. rwright611
1) This helps Shawn Andrews out, which is a GOOD thing 2) It gets them younger on the o-line and possibly better. If they get Thomas back and get Jason Brown from Baltimore then they might have the best O-Line in the game..St. Andrews, Sh Andrews, Jackson, Jason Brown and Thomas. 3) They now can use the early draft picks to grab a big RB (Beanie!) and maybe trade the other one (and Lito) for Boldin. ESFjellin- The question now is what's up at left tackle. Will they sign Tra? Draft a rookie high? Or move Shaun over there, with Herremans and Cole as guards? Not having Tra signed by now seems to suggest his Eagle days are over. My guess is they'll draft the next left tackle. Or try, anyway.
Where's B. Dawk? WE NEED B. DAWK!!!!! tonygreeneagle5
If he is totally healed he is a great player. Also if Runyan is healthy next year he would be great to have on the team as a back up. As we learned when Winston Justice stepped in for Thomas and we sucked. I like signing veteran OL you already know what you are getting. I would like it if we didn't draft an OL in the 1st round. RB would be better they can come in right away and provide a spark. I would try and trade for Tony Gonzalez and give up a 2nd round pick for him. If they can get a legit TE and another RB we are vastly improved. I would do anything I can to get Boldin and if we can get him then Housh would be perfect for this team. Housh and Jackson on the ends and Curtis in the middle with a legit TE and Westbrook now we have the makings as one one of the top offenses. We just need another stud DE and our teams looks great. sportsgenius99

Signing a fat, injured player who has never played for a winner to be a babysitter for his fragile minded brother makes perfect sense to me! Keep spending that money boys! I hear Pac Man Jones is available. I'd love to see him make it rain at Delilah's Den sometime. mdriban

What is it with the Eagles and signing brothers. First it was Koy and Ty Detmer. Now It will be Shawn and Stacy Andrews. I think its a good move now lets wrap up Tra Thomas. fjgorman020772- Am being careful not to throw out my shoulder ... patting myself on the back. Called the Stacy Andrews signing yesterday. Great move. 2 birds ... err, Andrews in one signing. BTW, McCoy of Pitt would be an excellent pick; quite likely a better one than injury-prone Wells.
- if he can help keep his headcase brother on the field, he'll be worth it. soybot

Comment removed.- Now Shawn and Stacy can double-date the Andrews Sisters.
- i like the idea. big brother whipping little brother into shape. but the guy has had a MAJOR injury. he probably won't be 100% until the beginning of 2010 Ryan
it doesn't matter if Andrews isn't cheaper than Runyan, 2010 will be an uncapped year and 2009 is probably the last year the NFL will have a cap. Also, we have a ton of money to spend this offseason, so why not spend it on a relatively young and talented guard like Stacy. Also, if the reports are correct, then the money will probably be backloaded to give us an out if he isn't healthy next year or gets hurt seriously again. robm0202
Lots of good laughs over Shawn's emotional problem just show how insensitive some people can be. If you are going to make a joke, at least ad something of insight. See I am Shawn's third brother .. the one who obsessively takes notes and actions on guys who make fun of my little brother CheapPhillies
I love this even if this dude cant play ... hopefully his presence will get his brothers mind back on track. If that happens this is a great do. Kennedy
I love this signing! p-diddy
anyone hear yet, we;re trading reggie brown for torry holt....i think thats good, well better than reggie brown, ill do anything to get rid of him, take holt, give em brown and ill send em a case of paps with him. Will.i.Am
Give Carolina back its 1st rd pick for Steve Smith! PEFF
This is a GREAT move (especially if his knee is 100%). He was arguably the top tackle available and (as much as I love Runyan) be a younger, faster upgrade. A potential bonus is that he might help with his brother Sean which could give us two Pro Bowl linemen. blackknight
how does one go about passing a physical when you tore an MCL and ACL 2 months ago? ipong
hes not cheaper than runyan you clown. hes 27 and in his prime. runyan is old and would get offered nil compared to what we sign this guy at. daoust555
We all knew they weren't going to sign Tra, Runyan, and Dawk. This seals Runyan's fate. Good move to address the need immediately. Eliminates some of the urgency to take Oher or another lineman early in the draft. So far so good... wlightning02
Tra Thomas is not coming back, this move means Shawn will move to tackle and the Andrews brothers will anchor our OL. I still see us grabbing a first round OL, probably another big guard since there are a lot of question marks about the tackles in the draft after you get past Jason Smith and Brandon Alberts. robm0202
The Steelers won a Super Bowl with a patchwork O line (remember the game in Philly?). The critical part for Andrews is, of course, the physical. If he passes, its a good catch for the Eagles. PittsburghPete
Housh is a waste of money. He is an expensive #2 WR. Chad whatshisname made this guy look good. He is a slower, much more expensive version of Kevin Curtis. ej
its not even a done deal....lets see if his fat arse passes a physical. Are they going to sign him at bookbinders? They better trade for boldin. GET THAT DONE! SIGN DAWK and TRA too montymiller

Anyone who makes fun of Shawn Andrews' depression is an a-hole. He wasn't out thi season because of depression, just like Elton Brand isn't out because of his knee. B in DC- This is not a sentence: "Andrews is 27. Like is brother, whom he will now play next to, he is very talented." PuPuMan
Two torn knee ligaments. Scary ... Doesn't it take at least a year to get back to form after that surgery? Doesn't that mean he won't be completely back until Dec. 21 2009? What do we do until then? kingsolomonsmind- Eagles are going to break our hearts this off season!!!! I am ready

jwad56 - yes we have no right to complain about anything this team does. We have won every Super Bowl since Reid took over, and every free agent signing and draft pick has been to a Pro Bowl with the team. While I agree that some of these clowns get a carried away w/ the negativity, a comment like yours is just as dumb. djsaitta

OK Move if we sign B-Dawkins and Tre Thomas... but for those questions on Runyan... he won't be ready until mid football season. The Eagles still need to use some of that 40 Million and sign a decent receiver and a Big back to help B-West out. Draft a TE and/or Running Back in the early rounds. DESIXERSFAN

7 mill a year is alot for a guy coming off new surgery, however when Stacey was healthy he was a good RT. An upgrade over Jon Runyan dawggone
need to sign tra now. Get him back in the fold. send a number 1 to phoenix for boldin. Send a number 2 to kc for gonzales. PEFF
So Stacy has to make a full recovery and switch to tackle. Totally follows their MO -- should work out wonderfully. battman21
Make him a blocking TE and Sign OUR EAGLES! Louisjco
If he's healthy... GREAT move! Runyan was the man but this guy could be the man for next 6-7 years. Why go through this every year with holding on to old,, and I do mean old players? Thomas would still be great, but let's go after weapons people.. throw the kitchen sink at Boldin and draft Wells. clevland
Great move. This is a first step toward showing Mcnabb that the team is serious about upgrading the offense. Now go out and get a wide-out, I want Boldin. Give the cardinals Lito Sheppard and one of the first rounders. If that is not enough maybe even throw in a third from next years. Then I think we would be able to sign Tony Gonzales to put in with Brent Celeck. That would give the team the ability to draft a RB in the first round with their remaining pick. In my estimation, it should either be Beanie Wells or Shonne Greene. That would give us a great offense. The only thing on defense would be to bring back B-Dawk. Get this done eagles! This would mean championship game for sure! Phillyfan28
Can't wait to hear Joe Buck refer to the right side of the Eagles line as "the Andrews side". I hate Joe Buck. MTbelly
i'm surprised i haven't once heard the name King Dunlap during all these "need OT" articles/discussions. He got a boo-boo last year during training camp, and was put on injured reserve. From the moment it happened, i suspected the reason for putting him on IR was to avoid putting him on the practice squad, where another team would be able to sign him. That would give them 1 year to take his 6' 9", but only 310 pound frame, and bulk him up. If this actually is the case, and they bring him into training camp 30 or so pounds heavier this year, they won't need Thomas or Runyan. With Andrews and Dunlap, they'll have 2 monsters at tackle. oTTo the CzAR- TodaysPeople, if the reports coming off ProFootballTalk are true, then NO, Andrews isn't cheaper than Runyan. He's just not 35 and about to have microfracture surgery...but hey, don't let stupid little things like FACTS get in the way of your opinion. JLB
He was the best OT not named Tra Thomas on the market. Andrews is only 27. I'd rather a 27 year old coming off an ACL/MCL over a 36 year old that won't even be allowed to workout for another 4 months ... coming off two season where he was clearly in decline. Now if only we can get the center from the Ravens. jcu123
Is this dude "in the closet" and totally EMO too? Because thats what we need...2 guys on our O-Line that are at home with dresses on listening to The Cure. Teddy Beckerstead
I love this move, but the knee surgery thing is a concern. According to the report, ne needs to pass a physical. But how could he pass a "real" physical if he just had surgery? ej
The Bengals stink. Remember when you idiots were happy that the Eagles got Lorenzo Booker and bought it to the sports radio garbage of this great trade. Sports 4 Life said when a 1-15 team wants to part ways with a player, they probably arent very good. FYI - Bengals gave up the third most sacks last year, 51, and had the 4th worst rushing game in the league and averaged 3.6 a carry. I would take a Jon Runyan with no legs then any Bengal O-Lineman Sports4Life
I don't know how any of you people can complain about anything this team does. They are good. They have been good. Remember McCormack? How about the Swamp Fox? Rich Kotite? Ray Rhodes? Is that what you want to go back to? jwad56

Is he also insane? JEngels- Oops, meant Booker EL Zorro
- As long as he comes back healthy and we re-sign Tra, this a solid move. Hoepfully, this opens up the door for drafting some impact offensive player with one of those two picks. albertpa
What the - reconstructive knee surgery??What are we thinking here?? Better than Runyan?? Oh, cheaper than Runyan, that's it. TodaysPeople
Assuming Stacey makes a full recovery this a fantastic move. With all that Shawn has been through with the depression, what better way to help him get back to Pro Bowl form than bring his brother in who was tagged as a franchise player for the Bengals in 2008. tomegraf
good move - if not to just keep Shawn's head straight SB123
Decent Move. Especially if he helps keep "little" brother Shawn focused. R3
Comment removed.- This is good. Sign Thomas and we don't need to trade the picks to move up and get an offensive tackle. Now draft a running back (Wells will be ideal) and a WR or a TE with the two first round picks. The Eagles preferred McCoy, as GCobb pointed out yesterday on Daily News Live, because his games is similar to Westbrook’s. The problem is the last two players the Eagles thought were similar to Westbrook were busts (Moast and Broker). Apparently they still don’t believe in a powerful running back. EL Zorro
