Sixers in talks for Carmelo Anthony, Western exec says

POSTED: Sunday, September 26, 2010, 1:33 PM

Should the Sixers trade Andre Iguodala for Carmelo Anthony?
Yes
No

The Sixers and Denver are talking about a potential trade that would bring Carmelo Anthony to Philadelphia and send Andre Iguodala to Denver, a Western Conference executive has confirmed to the Daily News.

The executive said Nuggets GM Masai Ujiri has spoken with Ed Stefanski.

Other players would need to be involved in the trade to match salaries.

The Sixers are not among the four teams that Anthony has said are his preferred destinations, with Chicago and New York at the top of his list.

The Sixers also would need to get Anthony to sign an extension. His contract expires after the season and he has not signed a 3-year extension offered by Denver.

Iguodala agreed to a 6-year, $80 million contract with the Sixers in August 2008.

Reports late last week had Anthony close to going to New Jersey in a complex four-team deal that also involved Utah and Charlotte.  The New York Daily News is reporting that the Bobcats are holding up the deal, unwilling to include point guard D.J. Augustin. Charlotte was expecting Augustin would replace Raymond Felton, who left this offseason via free agency.

With that deal in peril, the Nuggets have explored other options.

Indications are that the Nuggets would like a deal done before they begin training camp tomorrow.

If Denver is willing to take Iggy for Anthony, pull the trigger. I would send along anyone else on the roster except Jrue.

Iggy is nowhere nearly as good as Melo- what's the worst that could happen?

Sure they are. They were "talking" to LeBron earlier this summer too. The Sixers are talking but Denver and Carmelo are not listening. Who reported this Billy King? Nuggets GM Masai Ujiri told Ed Stefanski to get lost.

Carmello is a crybaby punk b***, and a bad role model, but he can score a lot of buckets. I am indifferent on this one.

Considering he doesn't want to come here, and would need to be resigned, this sounds like a non-story.

Why do they need to have him sign an extension? Let him walk after this year and fix the salary cap problems. Build a team instead of just trying to bring in a bunch of people.

This could be Carmelo's chance to do what none of the other sell out free agents [Bron, Bosch, and Wade] had the guts to do and that is put a storied franchise , that has fallen on hard times, on his back like Jordan did and try to get them to the promised land as the CENTERPIECE of the team and the franchise

I guarantee you this is nothing but typical Stefanski press drop to try to quiet angry fans. There is zero chance of Melo coming here.

We better not give up young assets for him just for him to walk at the end of the season. We'll end up giving up young building blocks in acquiring him just to search for more young building blocks a year later when he walks. In the very least, Holiday and Turner are off limits, period.

if the trade is for Iggy and any other player[s] (not named Jru), then do it. at the very worst, Melo walks after the season, but the 76ers give themselves some salary cap relief for next season. DO IT!...and if does get doed, then Melo please check your baggage at the door. go 76ers!!!
