Thursday’s 7:30 p.m. Big East football showdown at Rutgers between the Scarlet Knights and Louisville is sold out, the school announced on Wednesday.

Capacity at High Point Solutions Stadium is 52,454.

Rutgers is 9-2 overall and 5-1 in the Big East and has already secured at least a share of its first-ever Big East football championship. A win over Louisville (9-2, 4-2) would earn Rutgers the outright title and its first BCS Bowl, most likely the Orange or Sugar Bowl.

A Louisville win would virtually assure the Cardinals the BCS bid. It would also enable Syracuse, which is 5-2 in the Big East to earn a share of the title.

And if Louisville wins, Cincinnati (8-3 overall, 4-2 Big East) would also share the title if the Bearcats beat Connecticut (5-6, 2-4) on Saturday.

Whether there is a three-way or four-way tie, the higher ranked BCS team would earn the bid.

Both Rutgers and Louisville are coming off losses. The Scarlet Knights fell to Pittsburgh, 27-6, and Louisville suffered a 23-20 triple overtime defeat to visiting Connecticut.

This game has even more significance since Louisville and Rutgers will be leaving the Big East, with Rutgers headed to the Big 10 and Louisville to the Atlantic Coast Conference. There is no exact time for either team’s exit and both teams are expected to compete in the Big East next season.
