Roy Halladay to pitch Thursday for Clearwater

POSTED: Tuesday, July 10, 2012, 3:40 PM

KANSAS CITY, Mo. — Roy Halladay's return to the Phillies rotation could be a mere week away.

Halladay will make a rehab start for single-A Clearwater on Thursday at Bright House Field. He has not pitched in a game since May 27, when he left with a right lat muscle strain.

If all goes well with Clearwater, Halladay will likely start Tuesday in Los Angeles, the fifth game after the all-star break. That would give him three starts before the July 31 trade deadline.

This will be Halladay's first appearance in the minors since 2001, when he began the season there as banishment for a disastrous stint in the majors with Toronto.

Trade Roy for three 4 or 5 tool players who will be with the phils for the next 10 years seems to make sense. Really, no one wants to see roy go but this is a business. Then trade Blanton for a case of baseballs and 12 bats. Then trade Rollins for two pitchers of Iced Tea. Trade placido for two dozen pretzels. Trade Ruben for ?????

drbob1 That is exciting news. Brown had 2 hits for the GC Phils. Amazing ! Now the baseball world will quiver in their socks. Tell us when he learns to run, catch, throw to the right base, and think a bit.
If he's the best the Phillies have in their system, they'd better turn the handle and flush the others down the sewer.

This is the Last Stand. Doc's return is the last chance for any type of run for the last wild card.

In other good news, Domonic Brown was 2 for 3 with a double in his first rehab game for GC Phils today; and Justin DeFratus started that game and pitched a scoreless inning.

may as well give him the rest of the year off to rest up for next year.... no way this heartless hitting team comes back from anything this year.

I don't agree that anyone is being "rushed" back. If these guys can play (Utley, Howard, Halladay), why waste time having them play in the minor leagues? These guys are getting paid big bucks. If they're capable of playing, it should be for the Phillies, not a Single A minor league team. None of the three will be 100% until next season (if ever). Even so, are you suggesting that they sit until 2013 when they are capable of playing, albeit at 80% of normal capacity?

It looks like the FO is trying to divert attention to the whole mess by giving the fan base some hope. First they rushed Howard and now Halladay. I guess they are panicking after seeing so many empty seats.

Let's hope Halladay comes back and pitches a shutout. Then trade him! The season is over. The next five years will look like the Phillies in the late 90's. Why keep him on a team that will win 60-70 for the next 5 years?

Why is the picture of Halladay always the one with the contorted face? Just a few frames later he's fully extended and looks less silly. But he's exclusively shown with that shot, the others aren't, why is that?

He is saying it gives the Phils 3 looks at Halladay before they decide to buy or sell other players at the trade deadline
