Report: 'Skins offered Eagles Haynesworth

A lot to get to, but I wanted to get this post up quickly.
Adam Caplan of Scout.com just unloaded an interesting nugget during a TV appearance on CSN.
Per Caplan, the Redskins offered defensive tackle Albert Haynesworth to the Eagles as part of the Donovan McNabb deal, but the Birds didn't want him.
"The Redskins actually offered - I'm told by two league sources - Albert Haynesworth, the oustanding defensive tackle, but Albert Haynesworth has an enormous contract," Caplan said, adding that Haynesworth was a pain to the Redskins' previous coaching staff.
Haynesworth, who will turn 29 in June, signed a $100M contract last offseason with the Redskins, which included $41M in guaranteed money. He received - get this - a $21M roster bonus on April 1. His 2010 and 2011 salaries of $3.6M and $5.4M are guaranteed, according to contract details.
The Eagles have two good defensive tackles in Mike Patterson and Brodrick Bunkley, but neither guy was on the field on third downs last season, and neither has shown the ability to pressure the quarterback up the middle.
Haynesworth had a disappointing debut season with the Redskins, but the thought of him teaming up with Trent Cole deserves at least a moment of thought amid all the other things that are being discussed this evening.

Ah yes, the defense didn't play well excuse. In 2008, the defense carried them in the 1st 2 playoff games. Sometimes the offense has to overcome defensive failures. Brady had to in the SB against CAR. Big Ben had to in the SB against ARI. You're right in that it's a team loss but #5 had the ball in his hands at the end of several of those losses and came up short.— rudeman- Rudeman, teams lose playoffs games...not one player. McNabb didn't play well, but either did the defense in those losses.— anshah8323

No, it doesn't. Haynesworth is a horrible teammate, a headache in the locker room and the guy is way overpaid. Yeah, sure, we should have taken on his $21 million roster bonus plus his salary. Why not try to get the Golden Gate bridge and some swampland in Florida in that deal too?— JimG
- GOAT, please stop with the weapons excuse. If that was so important to #5's success then how did he win his only NFCC game without T.O. in the lineup? What "weapons" did Brady have when he beat us and CAR? Ever see Branch play since he left NE? Givens hasn't played since '06. - I looked up and down the Skin's roster and there is no one on that roster that I'd want on my football team - too bad we couldn't get an extra draft pick or two since the Skins couldn't deliver a player who could break into our starting lineup at a "need" position. It tells me (1) the Eagles' brass messed up with how they handled the whole trade matter, (2) the league's teams don't think too highly of McNabb and (3) McNabb wouldn't let the Eagles trade him to the few teams that would have given up a bit more for him. Lots of blame to go around, but at least it's over and we won't have to deal with the McNabb soap opera that would have inevitably run from now until the end of the coming season.— Watching and Waiting
- The Reddgie-- I think it's too early to make predictions. Let's see how the draft goes. All the talking heads seems to agree this is a very deep draft and they have 7 picks in the first 4 rounds. That sets up VERY well for the Eagles. Plus some additional dealing may be done before training camp gets here. I'm not concerned at this point.— Registered Independent
- Here's my bottom line people.. The Eagles need to revamp their defense and just using picks 24 and 55 isn't going to get them past Dal,NO, Minn and GB. We need some read studs on D as we got lit up by every top team last year. AS much as I hate seeing McNabb get traded to Wash..lets see how this whole situation plays out..We aren't going to be a contender next year but maybe in 2-3 years we will be ready with a team that has the right blend of talent, youth and experience. And if Kolb stinks.. we always have Vick to step in..question is who are we going to draft at QB as our new project?— bradco

Tpizza, myself and others will pretend we didn't read that....and it doesn't matter who's behind center if they don't do something with that front five. And unless you want games in the 30's and 40's, they better plug those holes on defense rather quickly too. But wait, Marlin and his two reconstructed knees are on board, along with the menacing former seahawk Tapp, and the guy who we cut and then muffed an onside in the Super Bowl, yeah, he's back, so there's much hope. And the dozen or so picks we'll have on draft weekend, yeah, they're all going to come in and contribute all over the place and make this college aged team win what McNabb alone couldn't.— Bleue
- I am a rare breed, I love 5 but wholeheartedly think KK can be good in this offense. As much as I cringe when I agree with lonewolf 10, the potential for major YAC for One Yard and The Mac and Shady and Celek and all others is awesome in this offense. The quick passing game can turn 5 yard routes into 80 tard tds with the speed we have at WR. I think it is going to be fun to watch. Now we just have to fix the defense, and this is a great draft to have a lot of early picks. We have a lot of early picks. The defense could get real healthy, real quick.— The Reddgie
- I hope Eagles management makes great moves in the Draft or in trades to fill some holes. If not, they don't deserve to keep their jobs. Having Kevin Kolb starting is a great move. It is time he took over. Donovan had 11 years as an Eagle and he'll start now as a Redskin. How is it that they traded Sheldon Brown, an all pro-player for latter round picks. I can already imagine the quotes from AR and co., "ughhhh, ugghhhh, we need to put all our rookies and 2nd year players in a better position to make plays....ugghhh, ugghhhh,...yeah, that's it!".....KK is not the answer, so let's just call this what it is, A REBUILD. - I hope McNabb knew how much he was appreciated during his time here. There were many detractors who were very passionate and vocal about their dislike of Donovan in his time here, to the point where those detractors often became completely illogical about it. Yet there were many fans who admired McNabb as he was: a good, perhaps great QB - though not perfect, and not quite Tom Brady, and not quite Peyton Manning... who was paired with a coach who wasn't quite Tony Dungy or Bill Belichick and maybe is not even as good as the many other coaches who have won Super Bowls in the last decade or so. Andy Reid's and Donovan McNabb's legacies are yet to be completely written but many, many fans including I, put as much of the blame, if not more on Reid. So, goodbye and good luck, Donovan. As long as you continue to handle yourself with grace and class, I'll be obliged to keep rooting for you... as long as you're not playing against my Eagles.— knighn

- Agreed, VAFAN. Was he the greatest ever? No, but Donovan had a solid career in Phila, a great presence in the area, and the hate is so dumb. He is one of the best in franchise history, and I wish him the best when he doesn't play against us— DrewP
