BETHLEHEM, Pa. -- Kevin Kolb and the Eagles' first team will play the first quarter of Friday's preseason opener against the Jaguars, coach Andy Reid said Thursday.
Reid gave himself a little leeway and said that the starters, and his quarterback in particular, could play a little more than just one quarter, however. Michael Vick will replace Kolb and play the next one-and-a-half quarters, and third stringer Mike Kafka will quarterback the rest of the game.
Chad Hall will return punts and Quintin Demps will return kicks, Reid said, giving DeSean Jackson and Ellis Hobbs the night off in that regard. Mike McGlynn will start at center for the injured Nick Cole (knee).
Joining Cole on the bench are running back Mike Bell (hamstring), wide receiver Hank Baskett (knee), cornerback Macho Harris (hamstring), defensive tackle Antonio Dixon (concussion), guard Fenuki Tupou (ankle) and running back J.J. Arrington (foot). Guard Todd Herremans (foot), center Jamaal Jackson (knee) and defensive end Victor Abiamiri (knee) are also out.
