Phillies beat Yankees, 3-2

Wilson Valdez’ ground ball up the middle was too much for Yankees pitcher Wilkins Arias to handle. As the ball caromed off his hip towards the third base line, pinch runner DeWayne Wise scampered home for the winning run to give the Phillies a 3-2 win Thursday afternoon.

As the ball caromed off his hip towards the third-base line, pinch-runner DeWayne Wise scampered home for the winning run to give the Phillies a 3-2 win over the Yankees in their Grapefruit League debut at Bright House Field in Clearwater.
 
Designated hitter Brian Bocock started off the wild ninth inning with a single to left-center. Catcher Paul Hoover tied the game at 2 with his RBI double into the left-field corner to continue the Phillies' comeback.
 
The Yankees had taken the lead in the top of the ninth after right fielder David Winfree singled to score pinch-runner Greg Golson and put New York up 2-1.
 
Sergio Escalona got the win for the Phillies.

Roy Halladay tossed a pair of hitless innings to start off eight straight consecutive shutout innings by the Phillies. The only baserunner Halladay allowed came on a throwing error by third baseman Placido Polanco.
 
Kyle Kendrick, Jose Contreras and Drew Carpenter each tossed a pair of scoreless innings for the Phillies.
 
Infielders Wilson Valdez and Ozzie Chavez had an RBI each for Philadelphia.
