Philadelphia Phillies fall to Tampa Bay Rays, 3-2
PORT CHARLOTTE, Fla. – The Phillies scored early but were shut out the final six innings and lost 3-2 to the Tampa Bay Rays today in a Grapefruit League game in Port Charlotte.
Shortstop Freddy Galvis led off the game with a double and later scored on a Michael Young single. Second baseman Kevin Frandsen homered in the third to give the Phils a 2-0 lead.
Tampa Bay took a 3-2 lead in the third on two doubles and two walks.
The Phillies out hit the Rays 10-7.
Phillies starter Kyle Kendrick pitched four innings and allowed three earned runs on five hits. He struck out three.
Relievers Michel Stutes, Mike Adams and Aaron Cook shut down the Rays the rest of the way.
Frandsen was 2-for-3, while rightfielder Domonic Brown continued his hot spring, going 2-for-3.
Stutes struck out the first two batters he faced.
