Peters/Patterson still eligible to return this season

The Eagles officially announced the following moves today in order to get to the league-mandated 75-man roster before a 4 p.m. deadline:

-- Tackle Jason Peters (Achilles tendon) was placed on the reserve/non-football injury list.
-- Defensive tackle Mike Patterson (brain surgery) was placed on the reserve/non-football illness list.
-- Guard Mike Gibson was placed on the Injured Reserve list with a minor injury (hip flexor).
-- Wide receiver Jamel Hamler was released.

Peters and Patterson are eligible to return to practice with the team anytime between weeks six and nine of the regular season, the Eagles said.

Who should be the Eagles' third-string quarterback?

  • 336 (18.2%)
  • 912 (49.3%)
  • 290 (15.7%)
  • 261 (14.1%)
  • 50 (2.7%)
  • 1849

Peters ruptured his Achilles tendon in March and then re-injured the Achilles a month later when a crutch-scooter that he was riding broke. Andy Reid said early in training camp that Peters was unlikely to return at any time during the regular season.

Reid said Sunday that Patterson, who had brain surgery in January, could be out for the season. Patterson said recently that he still hoped to play this year.

The Eagles have until 9 p.m. Friday to get their roster down to 53 -- the maximum number for the regular season.
