Nick Cole leaves practice

POSTED: Saturday, August 7, 2010, 8:50 AM

Eagles center Nick Cole left practice about 20 minutes in Saturday morning with what Andy Reid called a knee injury.

Cole had a brief conversation with athletic trainer Rick Burkholder before heading indoors under his own power. He appeared to be favoring his left knee.

Cole had been getting all the reps with the first team at center. Mike McGlynn filled in when Cole left. A.Q. Shipley was back in pads for the first part of practice and practiced with the second team. When he joined his other rehabbing teammates on the side field, Dallas Reynolds took the snaps with the second team.

DeSean Jackson participated in practice and was in pads. Running back Mike Bell began practice in pads, but then joined Shipley and the other rehabbing Eagles.

Jeremy Maclin and Asante Samuel were on the field, working out in shorts.

Check back later for more updates and observations from practice.

Another Injury to the offensive line and more concern right now but reports said Cole is having trouble snapping the ball so maybee McGlynn can get this problem figured out because this is crazy. If injuries continue to happen like this, the Eagles may have to call Kevin Mawae.

They should call Kevin Mawae, anyways. Cole is a good "depth" linemen, not really starter material. Its funny to me how often fans are smarter than people you work in the Eagles F.O. Everyone on these message boards knows the Eagles need an upgrade on the O-Line. But,stubborn fat Andy will continue to say "We should be alright there" Really, in my opinion they should sign Mawae and Pitts.Lets face it, this Line could not stay healthy last year, so why expect any thing different this year. Joe Banner quoted the famous Albert Einstein saying, which states its insane to do the same thing over and over again and expect different results. They saved millions this year by shedding expensive Veteran contracts,McNabb,Westbrook,Howard etc. So, quit being cheap Eagles, and give the Fans, who support you through all the losing a good competitve product. I mean its bad enough we didnt upgrade the secondary but atleast give the rookie,Kolb a solid line to pass behind. Its just like the WR fiasco; doesnt the offense run better with Playmaker's at the WR position? Fat Andy never seems to learn, Quit half-azzing it and give the darn fans what they derserve, A Parade and Championship!!!

Kevin Kolb is no rookie but I still think the Eagles Offensive is going to be good this year because Kolb is accurate and gets the ball out of his hands quickly,(Something McNabb never did) and McNabb would always hold the ball and get sacked. You should expect to see a whole lot of less sacks from the offensive line this year with Kolb at QB.

Yea, Mawae for a year couldn't hurt, could it? He would probably welcome a shot at coming to a contender.

briandawkins20: McNabb eluded a lot blitzers who will probably obliterate Kolb before he can get rid of the ball . . . McNabb EXTENDED plays that broke down because of defensive line jailbreaks. We'll see what Kolb can do. Let's hope you're right!

I agree bdawk on both counts, might be time to see if Mawae has anything left. He is A LOT older than they like to have around though. And Kolb will get rid of it much quicker so expect less sacks but more INT's.

Leegles, you are correct, DMac did extend some plays and avoid sacks. He is one of the best ever at it. But sometimes it was the result of him holding the ball too long to begin with. Remember when Feeley came in and everyone loved how quickly he went through the progressions and got rid of the ball? That's how the offense is supposed to be run. Problem there is Feeley just doesn't have any talent.

I can't see Jammal Jackson coming back at all this year. I haven't heard anything about him working out at all at this point, has anyone? If he isn't at least starting to do some work, how could he expect to come back in even 2 months from now when these guys are already in midseason form?

Cole didn't injure his ankle; he suffered a contusion snapping the ball off his arse.

Jammal Jackson is going to come back this year for a fact. Jamaal said out of his own mouth that he would try to be there for the season opener against the packers but we will see. I hope he is there.

I agree, at least put out feelers to Mawae. If McGlynn is strong enough to hold the fort down, let Cole go to guard, I think he understands the position better, besides if Herremans goes down or is out , he will need to fill in.

Why do they insist on moving a guard to center? I understood when it was an emergency at the end of the season, but having an entire off season to acquire a center seems like enough time. Didn't Mawae turn the eagles down last time they tried to sign him a few years back ? I admit I know nothing compared to Andy, but ... Is a center who cannot snap really a center ?

I have posted on these boards since the draft, that they have not suffiently addressed the center position. Only a few days ago when there was a story about others on the offensive line were getting nicked up, I posted it was on;y a matter of time before the centers go down, now here it is. I'm only a fan; why cannot the head coach see that there is a problem there, there has been a problem there, and have it addressed. He waited too long.
