Nate the Great Confident He Can Cover

Nate Allen, the safety (and possibly cornerback) the Eagles took in the second round of the NFL draft, 37th overall, met with reporters Saturday at NovaCare.

"I'm definitely confident in my coverage skills," Allen, from South Florida, said. He said he worked a little at corner in practice, nevr played it in a game, but "I definitely feel I have the ability to play corner."

Allen said he got a look at the Birds' defensive playbook when he arrived and realized, "It's my job now. I've got to get going and learn as much as I can, just get ready for (minicamp, which starts Friday)."

Asked again about being the guy the Eagles got for Donovan McNabb -- the 37th pick was the main component of the deal that sent McNabb to Washington -- Allen said: "It's an honor to be mentioned in the same sentence as Donovan. I'm just going to come in and be myself, and just try to help the Eagles win in whatever way I can, play whatever position and help them with the Super Bowl."

"I was talking to Coach (Andy) Reid this morning, and he said he was trying to get a youth movement in here," Allen said. (Funny how that isn't quite what Andy says to us.) "I definitely think that'd be a good thing."
