Phillies pitcher Brett Myers had successful hip surgery today in New York, the Phillies said in a statement. The surgery was performed by Dr. Bryan Kelly.

"Myers had arthroscopic bony spur and labral debridement," the statement said. Debridement is becoming a familiar term in Philly sports with it being used to describe the procedure that Eagles running back Brian Westbrook will undergo on his right ankle tomorrow in Baltimore.

The Phillies said Myers will start a rehabilitation program Saturday and is expected to begin a long toss program in approximately three months.

More to come ...

Hopefully we will never see him pitch in a Phils uniform again.

I agree with SCARS73. Brett has never been more then an average pitcher at best. I certainly won't miss him.

you all are ridiculous. The man may not of lived up to expectations through the years but what he did down the stretch, in the playoffs and those 2 AB's against Sabathia, earned a place in my heart for him. If this is the end...thank you for last year and good luck

    B. Myers, I'll always be a big fan. Not many players can go from starter to closer to starter. Some rough patches sure, but overall big reason why the phils did so well last year, and why they started to become competitive in the mid 00's. Also, Myers provided some consistency earlier this year when every other starting pitcher had an era over 7.00 and could barely get to 5 innings. Is he as good as Cole, no, but not nearly what others describe him like.

scars- We all know he apparently beat his wife, this article is about his surgery imbecile, and Brett Myers, as an ATHLETE is a loyal, hard working player and was our best pitcher until Cole got back on his feet. his era this season is 4.6, not too bad, Are you one of those guys who trash talks but doesn't even know what era in baseball means? Also he can go deep in games, and he has good strikeout #'s. Brett hope all is well, see you soon, in a PHILS uniform.
