Mornhinweg: "not much good there" against Cincinnati

POSTED: Monday, August 23, 2010, 1:15 PM

Eagles offensive coordinator Marty Mornhinweg had this to say about his offense's performance Friday against Cincinnati:

"Last week, there was not much good there."

Ouch. Tough assessment this morning of an offense that has not scored a touchdown in three quarters of preseason play, though Mornhinweg pointed out that they did, in fact, get into the end zone Friday, only to see the score called back by a penalty. The Eagles got into the red zone once against the Bengals and down to the 22-yard-line on another drive, settling for field goals both times. But they had a turnover -- a Jeremy Maclin fumble -- while in field goal range on another drive, found little running room, and Kevin Kolb was often pressured.

Mornhinweg did not single out any particular area for concern, even when asked specifically about the offensive line's evident troubles against the Bengals' defense.

"There was no position really that played at a high level, and that's what I was disappointed in," Mornhinweg told reporters. "We did some things in that ball game where, you know, that should never happen, but in reality it does in the preseason. So we teach, correct, we re-teach and then we move on back."

He added that the team does not show much of its offense in the preseason.

Defensive coordinator Sean McDermott had a more sunny outlook on his unit's performance. Prompted by reporters' questions, he praised Trent Cole, Dimitri Patterson and said Ernie Sims also had a good game, despite not getting on the stat sheet. On some plays, he said, Sims was blocked, allowing other players to make tackles.

Vick was awful....Vick was 1-6 with TWO INTERCEPTIONS...Vick also stunk last week when he had TWO FUMBLES and also another INTERCEPTION...that's a two game total of THREE INTERCEPTIONS and TWO FUMBLES in about one half of a game...Vick is TERRIBLE.

same day, same old story.....inefective schemes, inefective players, over evaluated talent, not one group (offensive line, special teams, defensive backfield, run stoppers, linebacking) performed well or with any consistency...and this after two weeks of trianing camp...,.jsut shows you how you cannot coach "UP" mediocre talent.....good job andy, JoeB, waterboy Howie and others.....Youhave shown an incredible about of foresight in your 11 years and the franchise has the Super Bowl Trophies to prove it.....OOOPS

Obvious problems w o-line & red zone, as well as self-defeating penalties on offense & special teams. Defense looks like it may gel into a very strong unit. I'd like to see more against a top notch running team. Chiefs aren't that, but they do provide a test - esp. if Jones & Charles get a few more touches than the previous two preseason games.

Bill20 - glad you can cut and paste your jibberish from one column to the next. Can you also rub your stomach and pat your head at the same time?

The Bengals D is not too shabby, but the Eagles O must do better. O line next year's draft. Rebuilding this year. Special teams have the furthest to go outside of FGs.

Preseason people, calm down. After the first games of the REGULAR season then start with the apocalyptic chatter. And Bill20 go root for a different team, you're an idiot.

How frequently have the Eagles done well in preseason? Preseason is no predictor of regular season success.

Nugget is clueless...he probalby didn't become a fan until Andy was coach. He forgets how bad we really sucked before Reid. Stop hatin, he's the reason we win year in and year out. Reid will be here for a long time, get used to it and stop complaining.
