McNabb Agent: No Discussion of Teams

POSTED: Friday, March 26, 2010, 3:07 PM

Finally, amidst all the smoke and mirrors, an actual source close to the situation has spoken.

Your Eagletarian just talked to Donovan McNabb's agent, Fletcher Smith, who said he has no reason to believe a trade is imminent, and says there have been no conversations with the Eagles about which teams the quarterback would or would not prefer to be traded to.

"If we get to that bridge, we'll have to cross it," said Smith, who said his client is holding up well under the torrent of speculation.

Smith noted that McNabb has been at the center of the whirlwind before. "There's always something, every offseason."

Contrary to a Friday ESPN report, Smith said he did not believe McNabb had spoken recently with Eagles coach Andy Reid. Smith said that right now, there isn't that much for them to talk about.

The report said McNabb told Reid he wanted to stay in Philadelphia, not be traded to Oakland or Buffalo. A McNabb spokesman said this afternoon that McNabb and Reid text one another frequently. The spokesman said McNabb, indeed, wants to stay with the Eagles, but that McNabb and Reid have not texted or spoken on that subject.

Smith also questioned whether Reid's comments this week, acknowledging that the Birds are listening to offers for all three of their quarterbacks, is the definite signal of a McNabb trade that everyone seems to have turned it into.

Smith said that "given the sensitivity of the situation" he hopes the Eagles talk to McNabb about his preferences before they trade him, if they trade him. "Donovan has been there a long time. I would think they would want to do right by him, reach out, tell him what their intentions are."

If  the Eagles don't end up trading McNabb, after what is surely going to be a long spring of endless rumors, can No. 5 take the helm and lead the team as if nothing had ever happened?

"It can't be any more difficult than T.O.," Smith said.

True, that.

There is good reason to think Smith might be right about nothing happening right away. A team source confirmed that Eagles president Joe Banner remained in Florida for a little vacation time following this week's league meetings, and that Reid is doing the same in Utah. Of course, this isn't 1950, the principals don't have to be huddled around one phone in a conference room, but the most important trade of the Reid Era probably isn't going to be made while Andy's wading in a trout stream, or something.

It is a real shame that Mcnabb has to be the fall guy for this teams problems. The real culprit is Andy Ried,Joe Banner and Jeff Laurie. After Donavon has departed does anyone with half a brain really belive The offensive play calling will change, the time management will change, the personnel decisions will change, the pass happy Andy Ried will change and run the stinken football. The blitz happy defense that chokes every year in the playoffs,is that going to change. The last time ilooked Mcnabb was not on the field all by his self during all those playoff loses. But i did see Andy Ried on the sidelines totaly lost and with out a clue.Do you think all that is going to change with Kevin Kolb as the new quarter back.I dont think so folks.GOOD luck with your new team Donavon. With Ried here for another three years this team is going to the basement of the NFC EAST.IT does not matter who the quarter back is because Andy Ried will still be here eating CHEESE BURGERS.

Reid now khat his job is hanging by his decisions. If he stays with McNabb and McNabb folds at the enbd of the year as he does every year, Laurie will have had enough and send the both out of town. Thje Eagles will then get nothing for McNabb and but this could be a good thing if Bill Cowher is still out there. Let's say he gets hurt in the third game andKolb takes over and does a very good job winning 11 of 13 games and making the playoff. We won't get anything for McNabb then either. The best case is to trade him now and get a second and fifth round pick which could get us some very good players. With the players we have now and Kolb, we could go very far in the playoffs. It's okay if we play a great game and lose. We just don't like losiong because the quarterback plays lousy or gets shut out. At any rate, we may have a new coach and a newquarterback by 2011.

scuzmoe - You are correct. These idiot McNabb Haters are biased and simply Blame McNabb for everything, however people all around the NFL are laughing at philly fans who act like little babies when it comes to McNabb. Here is a guy who is the best QB is franchise history, yet we want to chase him off for nothing but a 2nd round pick. When that happens we are still going to have a undersized defense that has NEVER came through in championship games, bad play calling, a cheap owner, weak linebackers ect... Anyone who is honest and has a balanced viewpoint knows that McNabb is NOT the reason the Eagles have not won the Bowl.
