Eagles figures agreeing with their critics is something one does not often encounter in the NovaCare auditorium.

Oh, sure, we get "I've got to do a better job with that," from Andy Reid, a default assent so automatic and meaningless that it doesn't really count. Donovan McNabb never agrees with much of anything, on principle. You could organize a drinking game around how many times in a news conference the quarterback is going to begin a response with "not at all."

Q: "Donovan, will the forecast for chilly weather Sunday in Baltimore cause you to bundle up?"

A: "Not at all. For the second overtime, I might even play shirtless."

But with the Eagles' offense coming off one of its most unbalanced, frustrating performances in years last Sunday in Cincinnati, reporters encountered an unusually contrite and agreeable Marty Mornhinweg at the offensive coordinator's weekly news conference.

Mornhinweg agreed with nearly every criticism and suggestion that was offered, after lauding Baltimore's strong defense. "They wreak havoc," he noted.

"We've got to get better situationally," Mornhinweg said. "We do need to start faster, especially looking at the last several weeks here ... Lately, we've played some pretty good defenses.

"We can go through a lot of reasons (for problems) and those turn into excuses. We've got to play a little bit better, especially early in the game ... We've got to run the ball better early in the game, because that sort of sets the tone."

On third down conversions, which have been alarmingly bad lately, Monrhinweg said: "We're pretty good in third and 2-to-6, but we've been poor on third-and-1."

Was five carries in the first half enough to justify the extent to which the Eagles abandoned the run in Cincinnati (18 runs, 60 called passes)?

"No," Mornhinweg said. "You make a good point. You're right. It's not enough."

Mornhinweg was asked if it would make sense to play Correll Buckhalter more, with Brian Westbrook banged up.

"You're right," he said. "It does make sense."

Anytime, Marty. We'd be willing to call down to the sideline, say, miday through the first quarter, in case you find yourself forgetting the adivce. Happy to help.

At least he is patronizing and sounds reasonable. This is all we want as fans and that is for the coaches to not talk down to us. Mohrninweig gave us more there than Reid has in 4 years.

I'm guessing Marty does believe all of this, but his hands are tied by the big man upstairs.

Love the "Not at all" line. Love it. And the the habitual ease with which it's delivered is really very telling. It's so clear that there was a media training session that included a chapter on "Never actually agree with the question -- it can only hurt the ballclub." (It also means he's not really listening to the questions.)

"Lately we've played some pretty good defenses"......"And we figured, hey, stats mean nothing, why should we run against the 25th worst running defense in the league? Let's throw 76% of the time. I saw Seinfeld the other night and it worked for Opposite George, so I figured why not try Opposite Marty?"..............Thanks for the insight, Einstein.

Marty was saying what the reporters wanted to hear. He doesn't think anything different from Reid.

I make better calls wearing pajamas and drinking beer on my couch than these overpaid shmucks do....The giants exposed just how unversatile this offence is. They blitzed three guys that were lined up in a trips formation on the left side and left Curtis 1 on 1 with a 5 yd cushion. It was 3 and 1 and again of 4 and 1. What does Morningweg and Reid call, two consecutive run plays to the right side without pro-bowler Shawn ( my back is emotionally hurt) Andrews playing. Any smart QB could have recoginized this especially on the second attempt and had curtis run a slant that would have gained at least 5 yds assuming McNabb doesn't target his feet. Speaking of the big kid, how does one get hurt if he never really played in a game? 10-1 says he is at a mental facility in Ca.

Marty Morningsomething has no authority in the decision making here. And he won't be blamed. Maybe fired? But no one is under the illusion that what is happening to the Eagles is anyone else but Reid's fault. Get Jaws in here to fix the football operation. Give Reid another season as coach only. Get better assistants in the booth who know how to use the clock and know the rules. Reid can't manage everything and he is a notoriously poor game-day strategist. The Eagles are far off, but the calls are awful, the receiving is pitiful, LJ Smith is done, Curtis will be better, Reggie is today's FredEx, and the rook is a rook. He will be better too. No excuse for not reaching out for Gonzales and Williams. Reid's system is no system at all without players who can play in it. That's NOT D Mc's game.

Good call, trainrdt, get Jaws in. That might actually work. Which is why it won't happen.

I think Marty finds it hard to BS the way Reid does. I guess he gave up. Als0, for years I been hearing McClown say "obviously"... I know he things it makes him sound intelligent. People tend to use words that way, like "actually" "obviously" etc. I think McOUt_of_shape_always would be working in best buy or the post office if it werent for football... that is why he probably put that 1st he is a business man on his website. What a dope. I used to defend him (except for his clowning)

Here's what the Eagles need to do....Fire Reid! Fire Reid! Fire Reid! Get rid of him and bring in someone who has a clue on what it takes to win in the NFC East. Passing 60 to 70 percent of the time, which Reid has done now for 10 years won't work. Andy passed 70% when Donovan had a groin injury. He was called out by Michael Strahan after using Winston Justice as a turnstile and continuing to pass while Donovan was sacked 12 times against the Giants. Andy threw 58 times against the Bengals and couldn't beat them in 5 quarters. Get Rid of him and give Donovan a chance with a committment to a running game. Get a bruising fullback that can gain a tough yard and then some. As much as I hate the cowboys what they did Sunday nite in Washington was impressive. With all his weapons (Williams, TO and Jason Whitten) Tony Romo still threw 2 picks in 28 attempts. However the cowboys handed the ball to Barber 11 times to run out the last 7 minutes. In Philly, we want a football team that can blast thru the opposition, not a head coach who wants french pastry at the goal line passing to Todd Heremans. Give me basic smashmouth football or I'm done with these guys. Not ruining Thanksgiving nite with another ridiculous Reid game plan. Andy is past tense in this town, he had his shot and couldn't get it done. Get rid of him so we can enjoy the game again. Real fans want a real coach...are you listening Jeff?

Eagles fans and journalists don't know football and complain way too much. They are in denial that the Eagles simply do not have the personnel to RUN the ball this year, which is killing them. They neither have hte back(s) or the run-blocking. That is why they are passing like crazy. Moreover, McNabb looks GOOD! His RECEIVERS (except for D. Jackson) can't catch the ball when it hits them in the shoulder pad, the helmet, and the hands!

hey Les.. first of all its the coaches that should know the rules, not necessary the players... secondly McNabb will be here next year, and l truly hope with God's blessings, that Ocho Cinco joins him, and really rocks the NFC East.... Bengals arent happy, trade someone, bring Johnson here, and give McNabb someone to throw to... other than 2nd ranked recievers.. All this talk about no Reid or McNabb next year is bullcrap.. do something rather then complain about it, and lets go kick some NFL butts.... Adapt n overcome.... Gooooo Eaglesssss

I'd rather have Marty calling the shots on all ends than Fat Man. And by that I mean, fire Andy Reid.

Marty was horrible as the head coach in Detroit and isn't any better here. Once again, a display of Andy's talent evaluation!

Yada yada yada. Blah Blah Blah. The entire Eagles organization sounds like the parents on a Charlie Brown cartoon. But thanks for the handjob Marty. You've said everything the fans want to hear. I want to see you fix the problems because rhetoric has never won a football game. If you are aware of the problem, know the fixes, then why the hell won't they fix the problem. Why won't Fat Andy sit LJ when drops routine passes? Why won't Fat Andy get a real fullback. I could careless if McNabb knows if there are ties in the NFL. Fat Andy or whatever untrained monkey he has calling plays, should have been calling plays to win the game. FAT ANDY MUST GO!

Why can't we get the Jets/Titans game on CBS? It could be the best of the early games.

When one suggests hiring Ron Jaworski to oversee the Eagles' football operations, it's impoortant to not forget about the success that Matt Millen achieved with the Detroit Lions when he was hired from the broadcast booth to serve as president of the club.

Why is Mornhinweg even on the pay roll if Andy won't let him call the plays? When he call the plays while Garcia was still here, the Birds were doing phenominal. I highly doubt that it was Marty that called those "brilliant" running plays on back to back downs with the game on the line against the Giants. I called out those plays from a sports bar in Florida before they even happened! Hey Andy, stop hoarding Donovan to yourself. Let Marty help him guide the Birds back into some kind of rhythm!

The season was cruising along fairly well with a couple of close games against good teams not ending the way we would have liked...but all in all the team played well with the "back up" receivers playing much better than anyone could have expected...and then Reid and Morningwhatever decided to trash the teams chemistry by forcing the return of last years starting (somewhat less than) dynamic starting duo back into the lineup. The fit has been like the Hulk squeezing into Cinderella's glass slipper...McNabb was doing well and suddenly couldn't do anything right. With real estate it's "location, location, location. In the NFL it's "chemistry, chemistry, chemistry. Please explain to me, why a coach with the experience of Andy Reid would destroy his team's momentum and suddenly shuffle the lineup when the offense was cruising along so well.
