Marty Mornhinweg explains DeSean Jackson, Jeremy Maclin's lack of involvement
Zach Berman
When a team's top two receivers combine for two catches during a game when the quarterback attempts 46 passes, it's a problem. Eagles offensive coordinator Marty Mornhinweg did not hide from that fact after Jeremy Maclin (zero catches) and DeSean Jackson (two catches, five yards) were non-factors against the Redskins last week.
"That was terrible last game," Mornhinweg said. "That's my responsibility to get them the ball. That's my responsibility. Now they've got to do their part and all, but that's my responsibility."
When Mornhinweg was asked if Jackson and Maclin were open and Nick Foles didn't get them the ball, or whether they couldn't get open, Mornhinweg wouldn't get into specifics.
"We certainly had some opportunities," he said. "These are a couple of good playmakers that we have. I need to get [them the ball]. Let's make sure I'm crystal clear. It's not like we didn't try. So we've got to do a better job of getting the ball in their hands."
Mornhinweg emphasized that the Eagles want to better involve Maclin because "he's one of our playmakers." That's been an ongoing struggle all season.
And against the Washington, Mornhinweg needed to abandon the game plan because the team was playing from behind.
"In fact, we got into the two-minute [offense] very early in the ballgame because we were down three scores at the time," Mornhinweg said. "There is adjustment to be made. You want to play to oyur players' strength."
So when the Eagles are playing from behind the starting WR's are not part of the offense? The two highest paid WR's aren't part of the two minute offense? Huh? When the Eagles are behind and need points we turn to the bench players and 3rd string? Oh, that's how it works. If that's how the Eagles operate then the whole season makes a lot more sense now. warrentheape- its all about the package. where have u been?
eagles would be 3rd and 2 inside the opponents 10 and brian westbrook would be standing on the sidelines.
obviously no different now.
its sheer brilliance.

i feel for andy. but, they can fire this buffoon today! pointguard
pure coachspeak or b.s. as we ordinary people call it...why do we even listen to what these guys say, because they never say anything anyway...just a waste of time... jabac- We had to go to our 2 minute offense early???? Uh,, isn't that the offense designed to THROW TO YOUR WIDE RECEIVERS?! Fire 'em all. dlivesay
They figured your offense out Marty, You can't outrun the coverage anymore. You have midget wide receivers who can't fight for jump balls franknbeans
Maclin knows he has one payday left in his career, and a lot of injury history working against it. Don't look for him to catch anything in traffic for the rest of the year, and if he get's hurt, he's done. banned
Why can't any Eagles official answer a question honestly? What have they gained by protecting the players? Would they play worse if they were subjected to public culpability?
Doug Collins answers questions honestly and will point out the warts on his players but does it in a way in which he sounds more like a teacher than a drill sergeant.
If Marty answered the question about whether the receivers were open with "On tape there were some plays called that had them open and we need Nick to be able to recognize that but at the same time this was his first game and there was a lot coming at him and over time he'll see things faster and we'll get the ball into these guys' hands" guyguy4
Mornhinweg forgot to mention that his QB was locked in on Riley Cooper all day. treLoopy
ugh.
just ugh.
marty megamind needs to just GO. AWAY.
now would be good.
please. bloodymess
If I closed my eyes I can hear Andy Reid... NC Eagle Fan
let's clean house after the team losses its eight game. time yours. Bernard Washabaugh
How about some sports journalism and analysis. Were Maclin and Jackson getting open and Foles didn't see it? Sports writers just spout off like fans vs. doing their job and providing real information. Eagles1980- whether or not foles could see the receivers is irrelevant. aside from 3 sentences, this article is entirely quotes from Marty. this in no way reflects on the journalism abilities of the writer. what you want is an entirely separate article about whether foles is making the correct choices on his pass attempts. maybe you should quit "spouting off" complaints about subjects unrelated to this article.
MM should run for office....he never answers a question...just dodges. His answer give to reporters presumes you have no sense...and the fans have less. MM should be cut loose...I would bet the other teams are happy to play the Eagles...they know what pays are going to be run...it is a cake walk.
MM you should hide your head in shame for taking money for the job you pretend to do... 5thstrretpast
