Kolb, Bradley Officially Out; Vicks Says He's Ready
Les Bowen and Daily News Staff
Quarterback Kevin Kolb and linebacker Stewart Bradley did not practice Friday and are both listed as out for Sunday's game against Detroit, Eagles coach Andy Reid said.
Both players had left the facility before practice began.
"They feel really great," Reid said of Bradley and Kolb. Reid said they have shown no signs of lingering symptoms. He said the players have done exercise, which is part of the evaluation process.
Reid said Kolb and Bradley had "passed the written part of the concussion test. Their next test is to visit with the doctor later today and see what the results are." The players will see Dr. William Welch.
Reid had said earlier in the week that Bradley was ahead of Kolb. "Bradley was there before Kevin at that point [to go see the doctor]," Reid said today. "Bradley has felt pretty good for a couple of days."
Michael Vick will start at quarterback, his first start since the final game of the 2006 season, for the Atlanta Falcons (against the Eagles, by the way). Mike Kafka will serve as the backup quarterback. Reid declined to say who the third quarterback is, only that there are several emergency options.
Reid was asked whether Vick needed to play more conservatively, given that Kafka is the lone backup.
"He has to play his game," Reid said. "He can't worry about all that."
Vick said it was "great to be out there all week with the first unit," something he'd never done as an Eagle. "I'm ready to go," he said. "I've had a full week of preparation, a lot of film study and a lot of gameplanning. It's time to go."
He described himself as "not too nervous."
“I think last week kind of broke the ice for me as far as getting the jitters out and going out there and playing when the game counted and it was on the line, and being out there full time," Vick said.
Reid said the biggest difference between Vick now and Vick when he arrived last summer with the Eagles is that he has gotten in better shape and is getting more acclimated to the speed of the game.
"He wants to be a starter in the National Football League," Reid said. "He wants to up his game. That's the approach he has taken with this whole thing. He's a competitive, competitive guy. It's been fun to watch."
Said Vick: “It’s been a long time since I felt this good physically and mentally. I’m just glad that I had a chance to work myself back into football shape and I’m very thankful that I had the opportunity to come back and play this game. So thankful for all of the people who helped get me in this position and put me in this position."
Reid said there were no other significant injuries to report. Everyone else on the injury report is listed as probable: WR Jason Avant (back), DE Antwan Barnes (wrist), RB Mike Bell (toe), G Nick Cole (knee), G Todd Herremans (ankle), T Austin Howard (back), LB Akeem Jordan (groin), DT Trevor Laws (oblique), P Sav Rocca (left hamstring).
He said he was still considering how the 45-man active roster will take shape, especially along the offensive and defensive lines.

The Eagles have elected a new player rep, right tackle Winston Justice, as they prepare for what is shaping up as an ugly battle with the owners. Justice said the team met with NFLPA representatives Thursday and voted to authorize the union leadership to decertify if necessary, as a tool to possibly foil a management lockout.
"I think we need to get behind the head of the NFLPA (DeMaurice Smith)," Justice said. "I think we need to be unified."

This is what i honestly don't understand and about people in the u.s. and around the world.. your mad at mike vick for fighting dogs but there's people killing other people around the world.. so i get this vibe that if your dog was in the street along with a human as a truck comes, you would to choose your dog... why?? not to be cruel or anything because i have had dogs and never made them fight.. but a humans lives more than a dog and your more likely to lose your dog than a human.. people shouldn't treat dogs as if they were human.. donte stallworth killed a human but was only sentenced to 24 days in prison but michael vick serve a two year sentence?? people forgive the man a chance.. it could have been your love one sitting right next to you.. nothing against donte stallworth at all.. just a prime example.. you cant take vick's talent away from him... i great athlete.. and he's number one for most hated athelete.. c'mon man.. c.love20

Michael Vick fell, did his time and deserves a second chance like any of you would want if it was you. How many of you were/are alcoholics/addicts/abusers who terrorize your families?? How many of you, or your kids did something beyond stupid when you were younger and got another chance...how many of you that keep harping on this even donate a dollar to help animals.......we all know what this really is about and it is time for you to grow up and give the man a chance to redeem himself. The funny thing is, I bet alot of you consider yourselves to be people of God....where is your ability to allow a person to learn from their mistakes and become a better person??? philligrl
Clove you are right. You don't see any of these big men speaking out when a woman is beat...but a dog......get the lynch mob. I am starting to think alot of these guys have a deeper relationship with dogs that they will admit in public.......maybe Mike was thinning out their potential dates. philligrl- Vick can lead us to the playoffs. All we have to do is get in....anything can happen. elijah29
Give up with the Vick comments/jokes, they were apropriate 3 years ago, they ain't now. The guy committed a henious crime and paid the debt that the guys YOU vote for deemed suitable. If you think Vick should no longer be in the NFL then DO something about it, vote for stronger judges who will deliver tougher sentences. Don't come on here with 2 bob comments about stuff that happened years ago... you all act like your high and mighty, lets put your life under the microscope and see how you hold up, guess what? YOU AINT PERFECT EITHER.
He made a mistake, paid the price and appears to be doing the right thing now... deal with it.
PS Eagles kill the Lions... get well Stu & K2 we need you guys.
PPS Reid says Bradley is ahead of Kolb because he needs Bradley more.
PPPS I think K2 should be given at least this season to prove himself, Vick should get a shot elsewhere. I love watching him run but I grew up watching #12 do it so its in my blood... I also grew up watching Reggie, Clyde & Jerome, I miss those days...
Go Eagles!
PPPPPPPS Ernie (Simms), you finally get to 1-28 or whatever it is on Sunday! W00p beers are on you! UKEagle
For the record I own a 7 year old female chocolate labradour.. her name is Maisy and she is at the heart of this family. UKEagle
As heinously as Vick acted, I can imagine by the quality of these posts that some of you have no room to talk. Demonstrating once again the cesspool of collective ranting that is the internet. retzlaff
@c.love20 well said man... we live in an imperfect world and from time to time we all make bad decisions, some far baderer than others (<--bad grammar intended to keep the trolls reading). I do not and never will condone Vicks actions but I do accept he made a mistake, paid the price, showed remorse and certainly give him the benefit of the doubt unitl he proves otherwise.
Unfortunately Vick is an easy target for people with a low IQ or the inability to form a thought more than once every 5 years... those same people are only just realising that Rich Kotite was not better than Buddy Ryan.
To all of you genuine Eagles fans out there that will be cheering the team on through thick & thin.. I'm with you brothers, we're in this together! GO EAGLES! UKEagle
