Kolb, Bradley Officially Out; Vicks Says He's Ready

Quarterback Kevin Kolb and linebacker Stewart Bradley did not practice Friday and are both listed as out for Sunday's game against Detroit, Eagles coach Andy Reid said.
Both players had left the facility before practice began.
"They feel really great," Reid said of Bradley and Kolb. Reid said they have shown no signs of lingering symptoms. He said the players have done exercise, which is part of the evaluation process.
Reid said Kolb and Bradley had "passed the written part of the concussion test. Their next test is to visit with the doctor later today and see what the results are." The players will see Dr. William Welch.
Reid had said earlier in the week that Bradley was ahead of Kolb. "Bradley was there before Kevin at that point [to go see the doctor]," Reid said today. "Bradley has felt pretty good for a couple of days."
Michael Vick will start at quarterback, his first start since the final game of the 2006 season, for the Atlanta Falcons (against the Eagles, by the way). Mike Kafka will serve as the backup quarterback. Reid declined to say who the third quarterback is, only that there are several emergency options.
Reid was asked whether Vick needed to play more conservatively, given that Kafka is the lone backup.
"He has to play his game," Reid said. "He can't worry about all that."
Vick said it was "great to be out there all week with the first unit," something he'd never done as an Eagle. "I'm ready to go," he said. "I've had a full week of preparation, a lot of film study and a lot of gameplanning. It's time to go."
He described himself as "not too nervous."
“I think last week kind of broke the ice for me as far as getting the jitters out and going out there and playing when the game counted and it was on the line, and being out there full time," Vick said.
Reid said the biggest difference between Vick now and Vick when he arrived last summer with the Eagles is that he has gotten in better shape and is getting more acclimated to the speed of the game.
"He wants to be a starter in the National Football League," Reid said. "He wants to up his game. That's the approach he has taken with this whole thing. He's a competitive, competitive guy. It's been fun to watch."
Said Vick: “It’s been a long time since I felt this good physically and mentally. I’m just glad that I had a chance to work myself back into football shape and I’m very thankful that I had the opportunity to come back and play this game. So thankful for all of the people who helped get me in this position and put me in this position."
Reid said there were no other significant injuries to report. Everyone else on the injury report is listed as probable: WR Jason Avant (back), DE Antwan Barnes (wrist), RB Mike Bell (toe), G Nick Cole (knee), G Todd Herremans (ankle), T Austin Howard (back), LB Akeem Jordan (groin), DT Trevor Laws (oblique), P Sav Rocca (left hamstring).
He said he was still considering how the 45-man active roster will take shape, especially along the offensive and defensive lines.

The Eagles have elected a new player rep, right tackle Winston Justice, as they prepare for what is shaping up as an ugly battle with the owners. Justice said the team met with NFLPA representatives Thursday and voted to authorize the union leadership to decertify if necessary, as a tool to possibly foil a management lockout.
"I think we need to get behind the head of the NFLPA (DeMaurice Smith)," Justice said. "I think we need to be unified."

I wanted #5 gone, but know better than to claim stake to Kolb...worthless. I'll take Vick, at least he is far more exciting to watch. What...you think the Birds are going anywhere anyway...wtf are you smokin' son?! BTW, next time you wanna play the "i'm not here, but in afghanistan card...slap yo'self boot." You have the audacity to play the card of a vet with your daily moronic comments and claims i.e. Davud Herndon over Halladay etc...Unlike you, I AM a true Vet and my location is none of your business...just glad I have access to the internet once in a while. I'm done with you...my rant speaks for ALL of us with your dumb***. Go Phillies!! mw_oco

Are there going to be any tortured dogs on the field? Ruff ruff! chrissmith
Great and Mike Vick...... LOL.... those two words have never been used in the same sentence before....... kramer65
How nauseating to hear that animal mutilator is still @ and the animals he badly hurt are still being treated w/out any help or concern from him!!! Don't know how the Eagle organization can hold their heads up. Plus they will lose anyway. How easily fans have seemed to forgotten what he did. SAD. Animal killer first then on to people! judigriffi
you gotta think Reid secretly wants Vick to have a bad game. Best case scenario for Reid is Vick has a poor game and Eagles manage to eek out an ugly win. things will get very interesting if Vick throws 300 yds, rushes for 100 and has an all out stud day. DreamShake- I had to read the quote "they feel really great" a few times. gho_matt
only 9 must stand for your IQ...... kramer65
Vick is a Play Maker. You always have a chance with Vick in the game. Man you guys are lucky...unappreciative but lucky nonetheless. We sure could use him down here in Atlanta. Oh Well. Enjoy the big win in Motown Eagles Fans. JaybirdnATL
Comment removed.- people can hate on vick all they want, but dude brings out a level of excitement that not too many players can match. just watching espn this week with the none stop vick coverage felt good. nobody cares about the birds with kolb. with vick starting, we are the talk of the league. and i like that. go birds!
