Hope nobody out there is getting too worked up over those "intense internal conversations"  the Rams supposedly are having over the possibility of trading for Donovan McNabb.Donovan negotiating for a new home

Sure, anything's possible. But let's think this through. The Rams, the worst team in the NFL last season, are undertaking a huge rebuilding project. Their draft picks are precious. To get McNabb, they'd have to give up something pretty darned significant -- at least the first overall pick in the second round, maybe more. OK, if they're going to do that, they're projecting McNabb as their quarterback for at least a few years, right? Yet, he's only signed through 2010. To make such a deal happen, you'd think the Rams would have to be assured they could sign McNabb to a new deal. Why on earth would McNabb be willing to play along?

BTW, maybe the McNabb camp had this scenario in mind last June, when contract revision talks reached that odd conclusion of more money but no added years. The assumption then was that the Eagles didn't want to extend McNabb -- but what if he saw he could retain more control of his destiny by keeping his 2011 options open?

Maybe I'm missing something here, tradewise. Just yesterday, ESPN's Adam Schefter opined that he thought McNabb was the most likely Eagles quarterback to be dealt, ahead of Michael Vick. I don't see it. The only situation that makes sense for McNabb is a contending team, that he'd like to sign with beyond this season. How many of those need quarterbacks? The Vikings seem to be willing to wait indefinitely for Brett Favre. The Cardinals have indicated they intend to go forward with Matt Leinart, and unlike with Minnesota, there is no obvious McNabb connection (where a guy lives in the offseason has nothing to do with anything). San Francisco, a borderline contending team, also has shown no inclination toward trading for a 33-year-old QB, and no McNabb connection.

If you told me the Eagles really were ready to move on from the McNabb Era, despite everything Andy Reid has said since the season, I wouldn't be shocked. I'm really not sure how the moving on gets accomplished, though, unless they decide to sell a "one-year" McNabb at a discount to a bad team ... which you'd think would not be looking for a one-year solution.

I'll believe it when it happens.

The first pick of the 2nd round is a fair trade for McNabb so that's not a problem. If McNabb chose not to sign an extension with the Rams what would be the alternative? To stay with a team that obviously doesn't want him? If the Rams offer him a lucrative contract offer I don't see why he wouldn't sign.

It's "confusing" because it's completely made up and an error. Stop perpetuating it!

I agree the first pick of the 2nd round is a fair trade, it just doesn't make any sense for the Rams. They'll be bad for a few years yet at least. Why would they want McNabb? Vick would draw in just as many fans and allow them to fill some other huge holes with the 2nd round pick.

Mc5 is going NOWHERE this season. With the weapons on O, upper Mgmt thinks they're on the cusp. (thought this for 10+ years). He gets '10 as a farewell tour, WIN IT ALL and rewrite his history. Struggle and it becomes KOLBadelphia. KING~out

As usual, Les in clueless. As discussed yesterday, the Rams are trying to maximize the value of the team in order to sell to another group. McNabb, with Jackson, instantly makes them better. Makes them a more attractive product. Rebuilding? Not so much. Business 101, Les.

McNabb's value was a third round pick several years ago when inquiries about trading him were discussed. I've seen nothing since that time to beleive anything regarding his value has changed. If anything, it went down becuase nobody wants to pick up a 15 million dollar contract for one year when any team can pay their grounds crew a lot less to kill the worms on the grass.

Beegal99. I'm a Philly product but live here in St Louis. Rams already have a buyer, a rich IL businessman who wants to keep the team here. Seeing as he has the cash to buy and keeping the team here is what the NFL wants, I think it's just a formality now that'll get approved. Latest news here is Rams may draft franchise QB (Sam Bradford) and may want to trade for Vick (not McNabb) as a stop gap solution, and to add excitement/get people in the seats (the Dome is half empty every game the Rams are so bad). Les is right on this one, it's a bogus story

McNabb is going nowhere. These are just people trying to use fabricated headlines to get readers or viewers. Adam Shefter knows nothing about football. He simply reports what he's told by other people.

You complainers need to relax. You should know by now that if anything significant happens the headline will be in 150 pt font on the homepage. Otherwise, you are part of whatever problem you are referring to. Nobody is forcing you to read the blog, so give it up.

Doesn't McNabb have a no trade clause. And therefore would have to approve the trade? The rams dont have a shot!

"McNabb's value was a third round pick several years ago" What?? Franchise QB - even his haters say he's been a top ten talent for years - is worth a third round pick in the prime of his career (several years ago)? Seems pretty ridiculous, wouldn't believe that for a second. I don't think he'll be going anywhere either but only because he gives us the best chance to win the Super Bowl.

If the Eagles don't trade McNabb this season, they get nothing for him at the end of the contract. That's why he WILL be traded to someone. But I agree that the Rams will go after Vick, not McNabb.

Ahh, Dr Watson, it is logic you use, I presume. Too bad Philly faithful doesn't want to hear your message but I think you are spot on.
