Brian Westbrook isn't practicing today, as the Eagles begin preparing for this Sunday's visit to San Francisco, and there are indications the Birds understand their franchise running back almost certainly won't be able to play effectively this week.

Fullback Tony Hunt said he has been told he will take his practice reps at running back, where he played before being switched near the end of training camp. Defensive tackle Dan Klecko, signed last spring with the idea he would be a fullback, has been reissued his old No. 49 jersey and apparently will play an expanded role at fullback while still participating in the defensive tackle rotation. Defensive end Victor Abiamiri, out since early in training camp following wrist surgery, was to participate in his first full practice today, and Abiamiri said he had been told he would work some inside at defensive tackle -- something he assumes reflects Klecko's decreased availability on defense. It isn't clear that Abiamiri will be ready to play by this weekend.

It is clear the Eagles have a lot of work to do to turn around their 2-3 season. Quarterback Donovan McNabb called a players' meeting Monday, in addition to the regularly scheduled session presided over by the coaches. McNabb and other players said he was critical of his own play and he emphasized that, as McNabb told reporters Wednesday, "everyone has to understand the situation we're in."

McNabb again expressed his frustration with losses the last two weeks, to Chicago and Washington teams he felt the Eagles should have beaten.

"I hate losing," McNabb said. "I especially hate losing in that fashion."

In other injury news, Andy Reid said right guard Shawn Andrews's back spasms have not improved significantly. Andrews did not practice today. Defensive end Juqua Parker is day-to-day with knee swelling, Reid said, and safety J.R. Reed did not practice because of hamstring and ankle problems.

Update: Wideout Reggie Brown left practice with a groin injury. No further information was forthcoming.

One thing that I will say about the Phillies—Is that they keep improving-keep getting better talent--McNabb & AR have been together for 10 years and it seem like they are getting worse—Last thing---- Please ---Please -Get rid of R-Brown and GLewis--I know we need to run and need to execute-But something’s you cant fix –Which is those 2 receivers-We have been calling RBrown the #1 receiver for years and he hasn’t done anything--GLewis-Please Mr. Scary-.

I keep thinking that in 2 games we are first and goal inside the 1 yard line and McNabb can't bootleg or even QB sneak. Did he lose his heart or something.

Cut Booker now and promote Jed Collins off the practice sqaud, at least he has played the position. Although the rotund one would be admitting he was wrong, and we all know that aint going to happen!

PSU Hunt backers - please explain to us why Tony Hunt will be different from all the other PSU running backs who couldn't cut it in the NFL. PSU and Paterno are old news. Shoot, they're not even close to Philly. Why don't you just root for West Virginia? They're almost as close. Or Rutgers. They're closer. PSU will never be a real team as long as Paterno is the coach - takes his players away from their families over Christmas for a football game. Way to have your priorities in order coach.

whofeels it - are you a doctor? ever have back problems? You know nothing. Just come out and say you think it's a cover story for depression. And then back it up with more than the delusional dream you had after your latest bong hit.

Guys, we're one injury to Buck to having just a single running back who apparently is not what they expected. He has to move Hunt to the running back slot. You can run this offense without a fullback. You can't run it without a running back.

hey Davetheherman hermit....you are the clueless wonder. Are so drunk from aroma of carrying McDone's dirty uniform around that you can't see him miss all the touch throws???....Top quarterbacks adjust to rookie/wideout mistakes...and never, never play keep away from a rook. You go right back to him....duh...McDone is just that, stick a fork in him, but don't do it to his buddy AR....the hot air will blow you to Atlantic City...get a clue

In the 70's (I think) there was an Eagle defensive tackle Bill "Popeye" Dunston. The guy must have weighed 220 lbs. He looked like a kid playing in the NFL. I got the same nauseating feeling watching Klecko play on the D line last Sunday. Reid made colossal mistakes in signing fullbacks this year. All those guys and not one can play? Hey Andy, how about trying Greg Lewis on the D line too? Might as well give all of your stiff buddies a chance. Dope.

Think positive, this is a squad designed to sell hot dogs and beer at the Linc, sell alot of jerseys and fill seats. There is no championship during the reid era now that #5 is older and cannot miracle the team any further on any Sunday they play. No heriocs by #5, and Andy lloks dumb on "o"

And how about a big play WR in addition to a real fullback. Oh yeah how about a real tight end (preferably one who knows left from right) and maybe a place kicker too? Is that too much to ask?? And maybe, just maybe, a real NFL coach. Mr Lurie, if you love this town, if you have any regard for the fans who have increased your wealth beyond any reasonable expectation, please, please! get us a real team.

...and BTW, Dave, Matt Ryan WAS looking at game photos, and it must have worked. McNabb plays like THAT on Sunday? And has the guts to say "NO WAY" the Redskins are better than the Eagles???? Really? Petulantly not throwing to Jackson, THE BEST RECEIVER ON THE TEAM, to teach him a lesson?

Tell, me Dave, what has McNabb done to win a game in the fourth quarter since the broken ankle game which was like 50 years ago?........If he can't QB SNEAK FROM THE ONE YARD he shouldn't be in the game. Period. Hand off FOUR TIMES BETWEEN THE TACKLES? Can't roll out? Every knows he won't run anymore because he is a "pocket passer" now, he don't NEED TO RUN. When the Eagles are behind, he folds like a cheap suit. I mean, EVEN MATT RYAN came through for his team in the fourth quarter, and HE'S A ROOKIE PLAYING IN LAMBEAU for god's sake.

Good to hear Tony Hunt will go back to RB. If given the chance he will show that he has the talent to be very, very good. Also, the team doesn't need a fullback if they don't start running the ball!

LJL you suck. IT'S NOT MCNABB! Are you people watching the same Philadelphia Eagles games that I am?! Yeah, it's McNabb's fault a rookie runs the wrong route. It's number 5's fault Greg Lewis can't catch a horrible case of the crabs. It's McNabb's doing that Marty Morningwheg and Andy Reid are egotistical dunderheads who run the ball four times up the middle against a Bears defense who ONLY stop the run UP THE MIDDLE!!! It's McNabb's fault Reggie Brown and L.J. Smith can't run after the pass. And it's McNabb's evil plan to keep the defense on the field for fifteen minutes and Westbrook injured, right? Morons. Jimmy Rollins was talking about you when he said "front runners."

Nice to see McNabb has taken on a leadership role this year. It doesnt seem like anyone has stepped up in that locker room in years. What isnt so nice is having a coach who didnt learn his lesson by being unprepared at a position entering a season (KR/PR last year) and letting the same thing happen this year, albeit in a different spot. It was shortsighted to have Hunt at FB anyway. This is getting ridiculous.

yes andy if you're going to "take full responsibility" then DO IT. you are such a puss, and a liar. you take NO responsibility, NONE AT ALL. now let's see if anyone disagrees with that. where's the media?

I have a great idea...how about someone besides Andy running the show?...he has been telling us for years we have good WR...look what #10 did for the return game and for how many years has that been missing?...unlike many I am not a Reid basher...but this team is NOT a super bowl team...there are 3 teams in the division that are clearly better, a lot better!...I like Don but it might be time to trade him while he still has value and start a rebuild mode...8-8 does not get it done and face facts we are at best an 8-8 team!

What's the difference between the Eagles management and the Phillies management? Answer: Nothing!! Both managements only care about the bottom line and NOT winning chanpionships! As long as both teams fill up their respective stadiums....management has no incentive to go out and do what is necessary, which is to get the needed weapons to win chanpionships and not just be competitive. Eagles have a 5 year waiting list for season ticket holders and the Phillies had 50 sellouts this season. Philly/Eagle management have no incentive to go out and do what is necessary for fear of affecting the corporate bottom line. In my mind it also explains how an 8-8 football team does NOT make a 1st round selection. No first round selection for a second year in a row. AR is savings the owner money! Being competitive is more important than championships because winning championships in this day and age costs money!!

Fire Andy Reid!! Are you kidding me with Klecko!! Maybe Ryan Howard can drive from LA to San Fran on Sunday morning to play fullback. Thanks for a decent 10 years Andy, now go back to BYU or Green Bay or wherever. Fire Reid and Johnson and hire defensive coordinator Steve Spagnolo from the Giants as the Birds' head coach.

Hey Big Ragu, Turner is not a fullback you dope. Why would they go after Turner with Westbrook here? He played second fiddle to LT, why would he do it here. Another "fan" who doesn't know anything about the game.

This is Andy's idea of "putting my guys in better position to make plays." The FB is a converted DL; it sums up Andy's attitude towards his running game. Pass, Eagles, pass on the road to victory!

Let's try Akers at guard for Shawn Andrews. With his stong legs, he can drive block, right? We've got to be the ONLY team in the NFL switching players' positions days before the season begins and into the season. That's because we're innovative, right?

"I hate losing".....Maybe you should spend some time studying game photos in between drives instead of wandering aimlessly with that goofy grin plastered on your face.....And they might as well shuffle Hunt to the hot dog stand and move Klecko into the stands to sell beer so the fans can drink away the disappointment the get from this miserable team.

There is no point of using Klecko at FB unless they are at the goal line because if he is in the game the defense knows he is not getting the ball and it will probably be a hand off to the RB. At least with Hunt in there the defense has to worry about him catching passes.

Delusional even though the Birds should beat O'Sullivan. Still, for now, I am more interested in the Phils winning than the Eagles. I like the Phil's feistiness and do not like the emotionless Eagles right now.
