Birds Not Likely to Make QB or RB Move Now
Daily News staff and Les Bowen
A source close to the situation said today that the Eagles are not looking to add a quarterback or a running back right now.
That would seem to indicate that the team views the injuries to quarterback Michael Vick and running back LeSean McCoy as short term, no more than a few weeks.
If Vick's rib cartilage tear is going to keep him out more than a few weeks, the Eagles would seem to need a veteran backup quarterback to play behind Kevin Kolb. The only other QB on the roster is rookie Mike Kafka.
That has led to speculation that Jeff Garcia could be available for his third tour of duty with the Eagles. Garcia was brought in last year when Donovan McNabb was out for 2 weeks with a rib injury.
The potential complication this time is that Garcia is playing for the Omaha Nighthawks, of the United Football League, and playing quite well. Terms of his contract would require any NFL team interested in him to buy out his UFL contract by paying the Nighthawks $150,000 and then the move must be approved by the UFL.
Garcia, however, said any suggestion that he is returning to the Eagles, or the NFL right now, is just speculation.
“I know I signed a contract committing myself to the Omaha Nighthawks," Garcia told the Omaha World Herald. “If there is a way out of it, I don't know the fine print. And it's not something I'm investigating right now.
“I don't even want to talk what-ifs. I've gotten myself in trouble in the past with what-ifs. If it becomes reality, it will be something that we have to think about and discuss. Until then, I'm not going to get distracted with outside talks."
Garcia is 42-for-75 for 509 yards, with five touchdowns and two interceptions, for the 2-0 Nighthawks.
"There are teams out there that have needs, and it's more than just Philadelphia," Garcia said. “Until one of those teams calls and actually talks to my agent, or calls here and talks to [Omaha GM] Rick Mueller, it's just talk. I've been through this before, and my whole attitude has been not to get caught up in it. I'm going to focus on what I'm doing here and trying to get better and help this team to more wins."
The Eagles have three running backs in addition to McCoy, who played the second half of Sunday's loss to the Redskins with his cracked rib. McCoy's 445 total yards rank fifth in the NFL.
The Eagles might be more likely to make a roster move this week involving a wide receiver, since rookie Riley Cooper suffered a concussion against the Redskins, leaving the Birds with the bare minimum of three wideouts.
Get Kafka his snaps with the young guns then trade Dinky Sims straight up for Shorty Rossi in order to make our LB corps bigger del ravio 100%

They already dropped Hank Baskett, a guy who many do not like but knows the offense..I say they give Norwood or Hall a chance.
Flyersrule25- @downthemiddle: Your point is valid, but this city likes and prefers hard nosed smash mouth football over these soft, pass happy teams Andy assembles. Usually this team loses to teams that out-physical them. Why do you think Buddy Ryan's teams are so loved even though he never won a playoff game?
If Joe Banner, Howie Roseman, and Slim Andy ran the Phillies, they would have said "nah, we don't need Halladay because that 4th-rounder is too important." And they would have never traded for Oswalt or Lee, and would have said "we feel good about what Kyle Kendrick can do for us." eldiablodelsol2009
How much would it cost to buy out Kurt Warner's contract with "Dancing with the Stars?" Of course, he could be voted off for free. rhawnhurster
Wow, the Tonner quoting Peter Brady! lol The Birds really are in trouble! :o) carlosbeltran
Did anybody really think Kolb was going to step in and start throwing for 250-300 yds per game....every game? Hopefully, he steps up this week and throws a bit downfield (instead of checking off ...as his first read!). Maybe he'll end up being what soooo many people ( I was against the trade initially, but figured that since it was a done deal...may as well root for the kid) thought he'd be...anybody but McNabb. Never understood that thinking, as McNabb (as erratic as he could be) brought years of excitement and many more wins than losses to the city of Philadelphia. I'm just happy that the fans gave him a proper ovation when he came back to Philly. While it didn't feed the media's stereotype of Philly fans....it was the right thing to do. CTeaglefn
Don't make any sense to get a QB or Running back , Reids taking us to the big game with what we have now !! zogger
They say Vick's injury is excruciating, causing him intense pain when he breathes, eats, walks, or even tries to sleep. Awwwwww . . . poor puppy! gershon
Kolb is a certified BACK UP QUARTERBACK!!!!!! Yes_General

Hey Mr. Lurie: It's time, Reid must go. Give Kolb the rest of the season and lets see what he can do. Without Reid he will he will do fine. Get what you can for the dog killer. Brohn- Corn Kolb is a nightmare. I think even Kafka would play better.
@Philly_Mike.....you are right, this is not our year. The proof is on the field. NC Eagle Fan
