Former Eagle Jeremiah Trotter rips Andy Reid's coaching abilities

On Thursday, as part of Mike Missanelli’s Football Roundtable on 97.5 The Fanatic, former Eagles linebacker Jeremiah Trotter called out ex-coach Andy Reid over his in-game coaching abilities, saying that he was often out-coached in big games.
"If it came down to both teams were even, talent-wise, I think the opponent's team would win if it came down to coaching," Trotter told Missanelli and ESPN's Sal Paolantonio.
"Andy Reid got out-coached in a lot of games, man, a lot of big games," Trotter continued. "Time outs, running the football, you know."
His play-calling decisions also affected the psyche of the defensive players and coaches, according to Trotter.
"As a defense, we understood we passed the ball too much. You know, there's times we're sitting over there like, 'Man, listen. Just get us a couple of first downs so we can get a break.' And I'm sure it frustrated Jim Johnson also."
Trotter spent a total of eight seasons with the Eagles (1998-2001; 2004-2006; 2009), seven of them under Reid, including all four of his Pro-Bowl seasons and both of his All-Pro years.
Trotter also spent time with the Washington Redskins and Tampa Bay Buccaneers, so he understands the landscape of the NFL.
So how does the 11-year-vet-turned-radio-host rate Reid as head coach?
"On a scale of one to 10, 10 being great, I give [Reid] a seven and a half or eight as a coach."
Who would be a 10? According to Trotter, that's Patriot's coach Bill Belicheck.
Trot proves the fans aren't dumb asses Andy. We all knew these things, all the fans except LURIE. So many wasted careers and chances. Stubbornness, arrogance and self rightgiousness all rolled into one person. Good bye to the last 7 years of our football lives. It's our team and you were tried and found lacking. Cactusclarke
The truth hurts! Outcoached, poor game/time management the list goes on and on. TomM
Those of you who defend Andy, remember all those sickening moments as our EAGLES lost to inferior teams in big games. Give Andy a break? Are you kidding? Those players deserved better. They played their butts off. They played hurt. They kept their mouths shut and didn't throw Andy and Marty under the bus. But when Trot, Ike, Dawkins, and so many faithful EAGLE players turned 30 ish how did he repay them? If I sound angry I've been waiting and rooting and giving my fall and winters to this garbage since 1960. I have no more patience. So don't make excuses to me about ANDY RIED. Cactusclarke- Players win and lose games. Dawk, Trot, etc lost those games against "inferior" opponents on the field, blaming the coach is weak. The Eagles never had a monster roster, they always slightly over achieved, considering their over all talent. None of the Eagles fans ever likes to remember that the Eagles defense gave up huge drives at the end of games to lose leads. Great defensive teams like the Ravens made those plays/stops. That is the difference between being a champion and coming close. It is all on the players.

It is a fair critique, stating the obvious... He's not ripping into him!!!! Title of article should be "Trotter's opinons of Reid the coach".. c'mon philly.com, you're better than that! Simma_Down_Now
Wow! All Trotter's complaints apply to how Belichick coaches as well! So then...Tom Brady is either the best lipstick a coach can have......or Andy & Belichick understand that the NFL is a passing league -WHICH IS WHY THE ELITE QB's WIN SUPER BOWLS! You can count the average QB's to win a SB on one hand. And seriously, Trotter wasn't "RIPPING" Andy as the title implies, he was critiquing him.....while considering him a 7.5-8 coach!?! Is there any truth left in Journalism? TruthTeller01
Nice to hear Trots say what many of us have been saying for years and years. I almost fell over but it's all true. He's a great organizer, but you can't win a championship by scripting 50 plays on a plastic chart. You win by letting the players do their thing, reacting fast on your feet and not panicking under pressure. You win by outthinking a defense. You win by being confident, not trying to prove you're the smartest guy in the league every week to mask your insecurities. Goofy plays are not a way to win games, unless you basically have a balanced team and can afford the risk. You win by running the ball to control the clock. It also helps to draft starters, mostly, and not trade down to get a truckload of fifth-round stiffs. You win by being flexible at the right moment, and knowing when that moment arrives. Take our coach, Andy Reid - please. But I'm just glad his I-really-am-a-genius routine is in Kansas City. Steakhouses will cheer his arrival and cattle will start looking nervously over their shoulders (or rumps or ribs or flanks or loins). NM Eagle fan
Cactusclarke.....seriously? 52 years a fan and you can't even SPELL the monosyllabic "Reid"? That's frightening! Must have voted for Obama too! TruthTeller01
It's those missing Trotter years, 2002-2003, that caused a lot of pain for Eagles fans as they missed that middle linebacker presence and paid for it dearly. Other then that, this is piling on. Time to move on a focus on the circus ownership and front office! DelawareRiverRat
hate does not build, just more hate - Trott just mad that he was booted off the team in his prime and was never the same since then...he was not complaining when he went to all those championship games ...punk ... jameslaka

14 years in the same city and he's out one door, in another without so much as a goodbye. He talks about loyalty this and loyalty that, but there was absolutely none in the end.
He may have said his goodbyes behind closed doors, but he certainly wasn't saying "this is my fault", "I take the blame", didn't defend any of his players seasons...he's a chump. Anyone's who repeats the same thing for 14 years obviously doesn't mean a word of it, because if there was any meaning, then every experience would be different. Nope, he did bare minimum for the players in the public eye, despite him "having everyone's back".
He didn't even care enough about those players to mix it up just once. Not even on his way out. MFPhils
