Former Eagle Jeremiah Trotter rips Andy Reid's coaching abilities

On the whole, was Andy Reid a plus or a minus for the Birds?
He was a plus -- Nine playoffs are nothing to sneeze at.
He was a minus – Zero parades. ‘Nuff said.
I’m conflicted -- Wish he’d actually done a better job.

On Thursday, as part of Mike Missanelli’s Football Roundtable on 97.5 The Fanatic, former Eagles linebacker Jeremiah Trotter called out ex-coach Andy Reid over his in-game coaching abilities, saying that he was often out-coached in big games.

"If it came down to both teams were even, talent-wise, I think the opponent's team would win if it came down to coaching," Trotter told Missanelli and ESPN's Sal Paolantonio.

"Andy Reid got out-coached in a lot of games, man, a lot of big games," Trotter continued. "Time outs, running the football, you know."

His play-calling decisions also affected the psyche of the defensive players and coaches, according to Trotter.

"As a defense, we understood we passed the ball too much. You know, there's times we're sitting over there like, 'Man, listen. Just get us a couple of first downs so we can get a break.' And I'm sure it frustrated Jim Johnson also."

Trotter spent a total of eight seasons with the Eagles (1998-2001; 2004-2006; 2009), seven of them under Reid, including all four of his Pro-Bowl seasons and both of his All-Pro years.

Trotter also spent time with the Washington Redskins and Tampa Bay Buccaneers, so he understands the landscape of the NFL.

So how does the 11-year-vet-turned-radio-host rate Reid as head coach?

"On a scale of one to 10, 10 being great, I give [Reid] a seven and a half or eight as a coach."

Who would be a 10? According to Trotter, that's Patriot's coach Bill Belicheck.

I'd rate Trotter about the same: 7.5 or 8.

Reid does suck as a game coach. His weakness is having to make quick decisions. However the other aspects of his coaching ability, and running his organization must be pretty good to be able to win so many divisions despite his glaring weaknesses.

Sure takes a lot of guts for Trotter to rip Andy AFTER he's gone. Why didn't he say this stuff while Andy was still here?

Trott, you're being generous, "On a scale of one to 10, 10 being great, I give [Reid] a seven and a half or eight as a coach."

    Maybe a "5" and that's that!

At least Reid didn't throw his players under the bus in a public forum.

Andy, will never be any better then he was here As a matter of fact he'll be worse. Once guys like Dawk, Trot, Jim Johnson were gone it was down hill from there. Plus he's too full of himself and his system to be successful. Any leader can make a plan but the great leaders are willing to adapt their plans to fit the siutations and they do it quickly. It always took Andy 2 or 3 years to see error of his ways and by then it was too late. In 3 to 5 years he'll be a memory in the NFL.

"8" is to generous. I would give him a 6.5-7.0 at best.

Dutch10 how iss Reid a rotten person? I would love to hear why you think that. People may not like Reid as a coach, but a rotten person seems way off base. What is your reasoning behind that comment?

Hard to disagree with. I agree with Elbarad. Your headline doesn't fit the quote.

Look up the word "ingrate" in the dictionary and Trotter will be smiling back at you. Every so often, Trotter rips someone connected with the Eagles for attention. Within days after the 2009 NFC Championship Game, Trotter complained on WIP that Jim Johnson got outcoached and did not make adjustments against the Cardinals. Maybe bringing Trotter back for third stint in 2009 was not a great decision by Reid either. For all you Andy haters, keep it up. It was time for him to go, and the last two years were not good ones, but tell me who accomplished more with the Eagles....Rhodes, Kotite, Buddy "can't win even one playoff game" Ryan, Vermeil, McCormack, Khyat, Williams, Kuharich, Skorich. You have to go back to Buck Shaw (1960) to top Reid.

i think his comments speak for any astute eagles fan,not the lunatic fringe that populates and pollutes this site...the mindless and ill-informed rants cannot disguise and or distort these facts:1-andy reid was a .500 coach, give or take a few, over his last 8 years as eagles coach, and that dudes is the definition of mediocre...2;3-nfc championship losses to inferior opponents,e.g.tampa bay, carolina and arizona...3-disastrous staff hires,e.g.howard mudd and jim washburn and promoting juan castillo to d-coor...any one of these reasons should have been enough to have him fired, but apparently he exercised a svengali-like influence over our billionaire, hands off owner, jeffrey lurie...good luck to the k.c. fans who will grow to despise this fraud as we astute eagles fans did...

The truth is without J.J. He would not even been a .500 coach. Imagine if the defense was able to get a rest every once in while
