The Eagles signed tight end Garrett Mills, wide receiver Jeremy Williams and safety Chip Vaughn to their practice squad Monday, give them the maximum of eight.

Getting the 6-foot-1, 235-pound Mills means the Eagles have likely closed the book on their affiliation with Cornelius Ingram. The second-year tight end was trying to come back from back-to-back torn ACLs and struggled through training camp and the preseason. Ingram, a 2009 fifth-round draft pick, was having a splendid camp a year before he re-tore his ACL.

A message left with Ingram was not returned.

Mills was originally a fourth round draft choice of the Patriots in 2006. He barely qualified for the practice squad having played in nine career games in the last three seasons with the Vikings. He has seven career receptions for 91 yards.

With the Eagles carrying just two tight ends -- starter Brent Celek and rookie Clay Harbor -- Mills could eventually be called up to the 53-man roster if Harbor isn't ready on game days.

The 6-0, 203-pound Williams was recently signed by the San Diego Chargers as an undrafted free agent. He played college football at Tulane.

Vaughn, 6-2, 221 pounds, was drafted by the Saints in 2009, but spent of all the season on injured reserve. New Orleans released him on Saturday.

I get the feeling that Ingram didn't hard enough in his rehab and they didn't think that would change. I don't have any personal knowledge of that but why else would they just give up on him after he showed such promise last year. They could have IR'd him again if they thought he could come back again next year.

I'm not sure where you can make that assumption he didn't work hard. The guy had two ACL surgeries in two years and then started to develop symptoms (with the calf cyst) that there was still something wrong. I hope the best for Ingram, he seems like a good guy.

Maybe the Eagles had reason to believe Ingram's knee will never be right again. I hope they had a very legitimate reason, considering what they replaced him with.

"The Eagles signed Garrett Mills, a 6-foot-1, 235-pound tight end" ... umm, that means he isn't much bigger than Riley Cooper. Sounds like the perfect sized guy to take on LB's and block DE's. As so often is the case, Reid's moves continue to baffle ...

Thejimmylegs' comment is the only reasonable explanation. You have to guess about injuries, and it's likely the Eagles don't see Ingram making a good comeback. Too bad they didn't make the same guess with Shawn and Stacy Andrews in April, 2009.

The question was "How many games will the Eagles win this year?" Either the link is wrong or I need some sleep!

Guys...per their MO, the Eagles intend to use Hank Baskett and Riley Cooper as psuedo TEs in support of Celek and Harbor. Every season, AR leaves some stone turned and they lose a game or two as a result.

Ler's see, Vincent Jackson isn't even on the field or signed by San Diego: they cut Jeremy Williams and we pick him up. This kid couldn't even fit into a needy San Diego offense yet we pick him up. Reid is reaching . I can't believe this team will be any better than .500.

I'm kind of interested in Ingram, and I bet he finds a job SOMEWHERE next year, if he can get healthier for the next training camp.

These moves are not likely to matter; these are practice squad people who will likely not be on the team, much less be on the field. The real things to watch are Kolb, the offensive line, and the defense in general. If the OLine can come together, Kolb can play reasonably well, and the defense is much improved by the presence of Bradley, Sims, Graham, and Allen, then the Eagles will be much better than the pundits think. If the OLine doesn't come together, Kolb is below average, and the defense looks like parts of last year, it will be a very hard year to watch.
