Eagles looking to bring in Maryland receiver, report says
Daily News staff
The Eagles are hoping to arrange a private workout with Maryland receiver Darrius Heyward-Bey, according to the St. Paul Pioneer Press.
Heyward-Bey has already worked out with the Baltimore Ravens, who brought in quarterback Joe Flacco to throw to him. Tampa Bay reportedly has a visit scheduled and Minnesota is looking to arrange a visit.
Heyward-Bey posted the fastest time at the scouting combine this year, running the 40-yard dash in 4.3 seconds. He also measured 38 1/2 inches in the vertical jump.
The Eagles might have to move up to get him, if they were interested. Draft guru Mike Mayock suggested over the weekend that Heyward-Bey might be a good fit for Oakland with the seventh pick.
Since we know Eagles fans love discussions about receivers, USA Today put together its list of the top 12 wide receivers and the top four tight ends, according to NFLDraftScout.com. Click here.

What this post forgot to mention was that Mayock raised the possibility of DHB going to the Raiders because he's the type of player Davis has reached for in the fast (blazing speed, questionable football skills). That does not mean he really believes DHB is a top 10 pick. djsaitta
The Eagles are basically right about receivers -- the first round is usually not the time to take one. If they take someone like Maclin or Heyward-Bey, it'll be because they think he stands out among all the other possible draft picks. As a unit the current Eagles receivers should improve, and are decent now. This is not a suggestion to replace McNabb, but the #1 need in the passing game is to lead the receivers so they can catch and run. Too many times they have to reach behind or fall down to make a catch. Put Westbrook, Donald Brown, Jackson, Avant, and Celek on the field at the same time in some situations, and you have a receiving corps that is going to give defenses problems. tacklinjoe

I would agree, RB is the #1 concern. The eagles shouldn't waste any high picks on WR's. dreinterests

Harvin = DeSean. The Birds need a tall WR who can actually play. Sorry, Hank. StopThePanic
If there's no skill drafted in the 1st three rounds............. Onlineps2beast
Take a RB with 21 and a TE or OL with 28. Then use the extra picks to move up in Round 2 and take Kenny Britt from Rutgers. Big, fast, good hands, several thousand yard receiving seasons. ArizonaMike
remember, andy two weeks ago in california said defensive end, running back and another tight end are this teams real needs from the top of the draft. as a surprise he may draft two running backs early. the eagles under reid will NOT draft a receiver early. d.jacks early pick was a rarity which won't be repeated for a few years. JACK V
jack v: please, continue to speak without respect to reality. The Eagles have drafted one receiver in the first round and three receivers in the second round under Andy Reid. By comparison, they've drafted one offensive lineman in the first round and two in the second round. There are three more positions on the offensive line than there are for receivers. owumd- Brent Celek is the present and future TE. Might as well get used to it. Hopefully he'll bring his blocking skills somewhere close to his receiving talents. Pettigrew WILL NOT be an Eagle. If the Birds have a realistic shot at Andre Smith they'll go for it. Otherwise they'll stay put and grab Moreno, should he fall to them, or UConn's Brown plus an OT like Eben Britton or, my preference, Alex Mack to play center. No Pettigrew nor any WR in the first round. Bet on it.
Receiver is definately too much of a risk in the draft - besides we all know the Eagles will not pick a receiver in the first round - they will cost too much - best we can hope for is a late rounder to challenge the average group we have in camp - draft picks will go for RB, OL or TE unless Andy and Tom have a crazy idea that we need more Defensive lineman or something Tom Man
Owumd...I stated exactly same a few weeks ago. Totally agree on those 4 being very good at WR. OT and RB are the two most pressing needs. Then, Center, Def Lineman, and OT again!! ginzo
