UPDATE: Make that twelve. The Eagles cut safety Kenny Phillips and linebacker Jamar Chaney. The Eagles roster now stands at 76.
FROM EARLIER: The Eagles released ten players to trim their roster to 78 two days before they must get to 75.
The most prominent names on the list were cornerback Eddie Whitley and punter Brad Wing. Whitley, who could play both inside and out, appeared to have a chance to make the 53-man roster, but he injured his knee Saturday night in Jacksonville. The extent of the injury was not known.
The Eagles have had a spate of recent injuries at cornerback. Curtis Marsh fractured his hand last week and Brandon Hughes fractured his nand against the Jaguars. Both remain on the roster.
Wing was clearly not going to beat out veteran Donnie Jones for the punter job, but he did likely show enough to catch on with another club. He didn't play in Jacksonville.
The remaining Eagles released were: tight end Derek Carrier, defensive end Eddie McClam, wide receiver Nick Miller, tackle Nic Purcell, offensive lineman Isaac Remington, tight end Will Shaw, defensive tackle Daryell Walker and long snapper James Winchester.
The Eagles need to get to 75 by 4 p.m. Tuesday and to 53 by 6 p.m. Saturday.
