Eagles Aren't Looking to Trade Foles

POSTED: Friday, February 15, 2013, 3:06 PM

Should the Eagles consider Manti Te'o in the draft?
Hell, yeah! We need a beast at LB.
No way! Too many issues.
Not an option. Dude will be gone in the first round.

News of Thursday's Eagles signing of former Oregon quarterback Dennis Dixon arrived right around the same time that USA Today reported former Eagles coach Andy Reid would like to see the Chiefs trade for Nick Foles.

As is often the case when apparent serendipity strikes, some folks put these two events together and concluded Foles was on his way out of here, sooner rather than later.

Eagles sources moved quickly Thursday to knock down some of the more outlandish Dixon theories, letting it be known quickly that the 2008 Steelers fifth-rounder and recent Baltimore Ravens practice squad QB is coming here because he was available for nothing and he has history with Chip Kelly's offense. Dixon is hardly in some sort of anything-goes competition to be the Eagles' starter, regardless of what you might have read or heard elsewhere.

Friday, a source close to the situation said the Eagles "haven't even discussed moving Nick," and "want to keep Nick."

Of course, any player is available for the right price. The Associated Press reported the Eagles wouldn't consider moving Foles, a third-round rookie last year, for anything less than a first- or second-rounder. He is unlikely to command that price off his six-start rookie season, which showed promise but resulted in a 1-5 record. The Eagles' surprise one-year reworking of Michael Vick's contract seemed to give Vick the inside track on starting for the Birds this season.

ESPN draft analyst Todd McShay held a conference call Friday in which McShay said nobody in the NFL he has talked to has a first-round grade on any quarterback in the 2013 draft. If that's true, Foles' trade value might go up. But the Eagles would have to be willing to trade him.

The Eagles announced the signing of OT Ed Wang, 6-5, 315, a 2010 Buffalo draftee who played last season for the Raiders. Wang's parents were 1984 Chinese Olympians. Though Wang was born in Virginia, he is considered the first full-blooded Chinese-American drafted into the NFL.

I agree Jeffery Lurie is making these awful decisions, NOT Banner or Reid are gone. Lurie is sneaky, he pretends Howie the ballboy and his flunkies are making the decisions, but Lurie is lying and hiding behind the scenes making all the big decisions. Lurie makes the decisions, just like Jerry Jones does for the Cowboys and Daniel Snyder does for the Redskins...only Lurie don't have the guts to admit it and take the blame, like these other owners do.

Vick won't make to game 3. Dixon shouldn't be on an NFL roster but may be ala Coach Kelly. Getting rid of Foles is a fool's play. Which playoff team had a speedy, running QB and which had the big throwers?? Good luck in 2013. It already looks like the Eagles are listing badly.

Mores the pity for Foles. His best chance at developing into a starting QB is to get away from the Eagles and that's not saying he will or can become a starting QB, but staying with the Eagles makes him part of the joke that is coming up.

To me, Dixons signing is similar to the Patroits signing Kafka. Kafka is a drop back, pocket passer which the Patroits employ, Dixon is familiar with Kellys system. Neither is an NFL starter or projected to be one. Foles however has enough talent to be a starter in the NFL, whether it be here in Philly or another city.

When was the last time a GM said a player was on the trading block? Does Les think he is gettng the scoop of the day? If given the right offer, Foles is gone especially since next year is going to be awful anyway and I don't think he fits what Kelly wants to do.

Lurie does not want to keep Foles when he can have Mike Vick as the face of his franchise. Just like someone said, Lurie has been and is engaging in reverse racism. Lurie always finds a reason to NOT have a white QB. If Tom Brady was a 6th round rookie with a Lurie team, Lurie would have some intellectual reason to get rid of him before he even had an opportunity.

Foles is better off going to a team who will give him a fair chance to start.I like the kid and he deserves a chance to start.Lurie and the Eagles seems to have an agreement with Tony Dungy and some kind of thing with NFL human relations.

The NFL is built for this gossiping. Maybe 20 games a year, each about 3 hours long, leaving 345 days of around-the-clock gossip. As if anyone knows why the Eagles redid Vick's contract, or whether 'they want to keep Foles' is a planted story or not. There will be 30 talking heads analyzing Chip Kelly's possible strategies as if they know until something actually happens, which the talking heads will breathlessly report then analyze until the next decision is announced.

hey people!. I can't understand why y'all are down on foles. what did brady, eli, payton, and numerous other qb,s do in their 1st year. not much!. those of you who are football longtimers know that without an offensive line no qb is going to excel.i saw my 1st game in 1939. I was born in 1933 ,the same year the eagles were formed. I,ve seen a lot of bad teams . this is NOT a bad team when healthy. vick did nothing this year either. let,s wait until next year when the injured linemen are back and hopefully healthy. then make your decisions. personally foles looks like a "comer" to me. jm

@LetsEat; You are right, Lurie has some type of agreement with the NFL human resource bosses to keep Vick in the NFL. Jeffery Lurie has PhD degree in Social Policy and loves this Vick social experiment...that's why Lurie gave Vick a $100 million contract directly out of prison....and is now bringing back Vick again as Eagles QB, who has already failed miserably the past three years.

Les Bowen shows himself as a dope and hack.....when he stated that Eagles sources cleared up rumors and that Dennis Dixon signed for nothing, etc etc.

Oh, I am so reassured, Les, that you have such faith in the front offce personnel who have been lying to fans for years. Who was your source, Howie Rosemann??? More than likely, the rumors are true. Lurie's mantra will always be "go cheap" That is why you have the two Brown's losers like Pat Shurmur and Mike Davis on the Eagles coaching staff; they're desperate and therefore cheap.

Foles?? Get rid of him now while he is worth a couple of late round draft picks, move up, and draft the best QB on the board. Stop thinking Foles is the new Tom Brady.

Lurie has something fishy going on with black QBs. Not another team in the league has had so many for so long, can't be coincidental. Reverse racism is alive and well down at Nova Care.

Nick Foles appears to be better than any QB in the draft. Therefore, if Geno Smith is picked #10, Nick Foles is worth a #9 pick or better. You trade him only if you know you can get someone next year you like better, like the guy from Louisville. But that's a big gamble, and requires putting up a lot of losses this year.
