Cooper breaks collarbone; Babin strains calf

POSTED: Saturday, July 28, 2012, 5:27 PM

BETHLEHEM, Pa. -- Riley Cooper fractured his left collarbone today at Eagles training camp.

The Eagles wide receiver injured his collarbone when he fell awkwardly after getting tangled up with cornerback Curtis Marsh during one-on-one drills. Cooper is entering his third season in the NFL. He was the Eagles' fourth receiver last season and played well on special teams.

"I think it's a bump in the road," Eagles general manager Howie Roseman said. "He'll recover from it. He's had a good offseason and because he's had that offseason he's gotten a lot of reps ... and gotten stronger and got more knowledge of our system and that will benefit him when he's ready to come back."

Broken collarbone injuries typically take one to two months to recover from, depending upon the break. Cooper still has to undergo an x-ray. The Eagles open the season on Sept. 9 at Cleveland, a little over six weeks from now.

Cooper's absence could allow receivers like rookie Marvin McNutt or Damaris Johnson to make an imprint with coaches. Roseman said that it was too early to say if the Eagles will add a receiver after Cooper's injury.

"We're excited about the guys on our roster," Roseman said. "Again, at any position if there's something that interest us we'll explore it."

Defensive end Jason Babin suffered a calf strain and left practice early. He will have an MRI tomorrow. The Eagles said it was not an Achilles tendon injury.

Defensive tackle Antonio Dixon left practice early with cramps.

Well that opens a place on the roster. McNutt, wonder if he can play special teams. He seems capable of running good routes and has good speed. Didn't at all seem intimidate in the mix today.

I guess this means Marvin McNutt and Damaris Johnson might actually get a fair shot. Riley's got some skills and seems like a nice dude, but the clocks tickin and he really hasn't proved himself, might be time for him to move on

How does a person that "continues to ignore this team" respond to an article about this team?? If you're ignoring them its impossible to read an article about them, right? I'm guessing you're a dope because you contradicted yourself acting like a cool guy.

What no picture of Cooper writhing in pain? Jackson puking, was bit much. Every millisecond of training camp - up close and personal. I feel so special getting all this info. 6, 400 people had nothing better to do on a hot summer day than watch big fast people put on pads and practice football? Hero worship to absurd proportions. Call me when the season starts. Guess what your neighbor had a heart attack while you were gone. Oh too bad, I got to see DeSean puke.

BTW broken collarbones isn't a 2-3 month injury more like a 4-6 month one.

Reid's camps ALWAYS have devastating injuries, this is just a precursor to a season ending injury to a starter

Too bad for Riley…feel bad for him but also feel good for Eagles as he should not have been on the team after past season. Like to see McNutt and other "speedsters" take that roster spot…sorry Riley
