A bad Eagles weekend got worse today when Andy Reid, droning through the injuries in his usual day-after news conference, casually mentioned that Brian Westbrook has broken ribs. Two of 'em, Reid eventually acknowledged. He wouldn't speculate on Westbrook's availability for this weekend's game at San Francisco, but it would seem really unlikely that Westbrook will play, and even more unlikely that he will be effective.

Westbrook was the best player on the field on the Birds' opening drive Sunday against the Redskins, but suffered the rib injury on the eighth play of the game, Reid said, and though he left the game only briefly, he was not nearly as effective the rest of the way.

The rest of the news conference was Reid's usual mea culpa. He called the confused collapse on third and 1 from the Redskins' 2 late in the game "completely a coaching error on my part," and "unacceptable."

Reid repeatedly asserted that "the effort's there" with his 2-3 team, which seemed to be shaping up as one of the NFC's best before losing conference games the last two weeks.

Reid noted that the Eagles are "16 points off" in their three losses, even though they've actually lost those games by a total of 14 points. Somehow, the hazy math seemed fitting.

Doesn't matter -- as long as Reid is in town, it's not about who is on our team, but who is on the other teams. Reid will win again once the Cowboys, Skins, and Giants start to tank. Until then, we can be as 'talented' as we want, but Reid's coaching - and lack of adjusting, his lack of ever getting that true #1 receiver, and his pass happy philosophy will leave this as a mediocre team, at best.

"completely a coaching error on my part," and "unacceptable." So when does it end? My God, I saw what the skins were doing on defense.

Let me ask all Eagle fans one thing. Do you really deep down in your heart think that Andy Reid can win a Super Bowl here? I didn't think so. He needs to go. The NFL is constantly evolving & this guy refuses to change. His stubbornness is the reason this franchise is stuck in neutral.

I'm afraid I have to agree with the first 3 posters. I"ve been a fan since 1960 through 1980 and the lost Super Bowl with a team that was supposed to be the toughest in the league but lost to a wild card team. I thought we at last had an owner, coach, and assistants who could bring in a winner all the way to the Super Bowl but it looks like it's gone again. I am still a fan and will be to the day I die and just have to hope that someday we get all three "departments" who really want to win at all costs. All the things that AllDawk said Reid lacks are true and a few others like no big strong real fullback who can punch it in from the one or two, the lack of a two-minute offense, the vanilla offense (no imagination), how many more? Hang in there, fans, dry your eyes and hope for some help from Heaven because that's where it will have to from!

I don't know why everyone is so upset. I guarantee we'll win our last 3 games of the season like every other year and then we'll be poised for a "great" season next year. Also, we have TWO first round draft picks that we can trade away for 2nd rounders!!!! Imagine that!

Anyone notice that the photo for Westbrook was from last year's game? Philly didn't score a touchdown after the first quarter, and Shawn Springs (#24 for the Redskins) was inactive yesterday. Which leads to my next point. I don't want to hear about injuries. The Skins were without their best corner (Springs), their starting left tackle (Stephon Heyer) and their starting Middle Linebacker (Marcus Washington.) I have no idea what game McNabb was playing in yesterday, but there is no question that the best team on the field yesterday won that game.

actually your math is hazy because 16 pts combined would have won those two games by one... not tied. you're probably salivating this loss bowen. Can't wait for your pick next week. You're a disgrace

You can not blame Reid for akers shanking field goals, and not being able to stop the run. Everyone new the skins were running the clock out and the D just could not stop them. Deja vu of the saints playoff game. However, Zorns halftime adjustments to Reids are uncomparable.

does anyone know if it is possible to franchise someone two years in a row- i'm just thinking about us keeping our options open with l.j. you never know when you'll need an inactive tight end

WOW! First let me say I don't see a lot of these names posting when we win. OK now if not Reid, who do you want as head coach, and if not McNabb who is QB and please don't say kolb because this team is not in rebuilding mode they are supposed to win now( even though they are not). So offer up some suggestions, play GM. Much crying without any ideas.

Andy Reid is a pillsbury dough boy. His entire offenive scheme is built on the pass and he's too afraid to put a power running game on the field. Questions? Why did you draft Tony Hunt ? To ruin his career ? Why don't you throw out half that stupid playbook and get some bread & butter running plays ?? You'll never take it the distance and until you do. Dough Boy...

I've been as supportive as I can for the Eagles, but I think it's time to make some significant changes. There is no need for drastic changes though. We lost by less than a TD to the Cowboys and Bears on the road and less than a TD to the Redskins. We aren't THAT far away to be pulling the plug on everything. We've overhauled the defense the last couple years except for Dawkins. It's time to overhaul the offense. It's not acceptable to just be "ok" at WR, we've got to get a legit Pro Bowl WR and I mean the Larry Fitzgerald or Roy Williams type. No head cases like TO or Ocho Cinco. I still think LJ has talent but he gets hurt too much, we need a more durable TE. The tackles are old and we might as well re-vamp the O-Line while we are at it. We need a legit # 2 RB who is a HR threat like Felix Jones or like Michael Turner was in SD. Westbrook is tough enough to play hurt but him missing most of the Pittsburgh game and playing with broken ribs most of the Redskins game were pretty much the equivalent of him missing the game even though he played. We need a legit offensive coordinator, a Jason Garrett-type, to call the plays and run the offense so that Reid can concentrate on being a head coach (clock management, challenge decisions, etc.) and we can get better play calls. Reid can design great plays, look at how succesful the scripted plays for the 1st series or two are, but then his play calling goes downhill after the script. Reid needs to give up the GM duties too and focus on being a head coach. It's no longer good enough to say "we'll be ok there" or "we're alright there". We're not looking to be an "ok" or "alright" team.

the whole regime has grown tiresome... the "it's my fault, i have to do better" bs was acceptable the 1st couple of years....that shouldn't fly ten years in. the play calling and execution is pathetic.... and wouldn't it be nice if we had a tight end....look around the nfl and every "good" team has a dynamic TE. our TE is invisible for the most part.
