Is End Near? Bradley Gets 2nd Interview
Les Bowen
The Eagles Monday night confirmed that Seattle defensive coordinator Gus Bradley is coming in Tuesday for a second interview to be the team's head coach, amid signs that the process could be near a conclusion, with Bradley the front-runner.
Bradley, 46, led the Seattle defense to a first-place ranking in points allowed and fourth place in yards. He spoke with Eagles officials Saturday in Atlanta, the day before the Seahawks' 30-28 playoff loss to the Falcons.
Bradley will be the first of the 11 identified Eagles candidates to be brought back for a second interview, and many people around the league, including players, expect him to be hired to succeed Andy Reid.
“He’s the best teacher I’ve ever been around,” Seattle coach Pete Carroll said this season. “He’s so thorough, so thoughtful, and he’ll go to such lengths to find ways to make sense of the information so the guys can understand it in practical ways.
“It doesn’t matter how good we teach. It’s how well they learn. I think that connection is really clear with Gus. He’s great at it.”
We need someone new, not a retread. Picking a new coach is always a crapshoot, but a young guy with new ideas beats a crusty Andy Reid any day, at least in my book. Gus is a must! NM Eagle fan- If this dude is hired and announces MM is his OC, the mess Greedy Gretchen will be cleaning up is the Tonner's head exploding. And not the one she's used to wiping off her dome.
- We need another Buddy Ryan, my friend. Enough with the nonsensical, NFL politically-correct "don't hit the QB or WRs, because they make our money." You might as well have the cheerleaders play. The NFL (and especially the Eagles), are the latest bunch of "touchy-feely" wimps (with shoulder pads and a "number" on their backs on national TV)representing a dying culture. The Eagles are a fair representation of their owner. Go back to making loser movies, Jeffy. You have nothing to offer otherwise, except mommy's money.

Go with Gusto Gus, and no more fuss. tommy_the_k- I can live with Bradley; my preferred top 4 were Jon Gruden, then Ken Wisenhunt (once I heard they interviewed him today), Bill Obrien, and then Bradley. This could be a blessing, who knows? kjuggs77
I wonder if Ken Whisenhunt would come in as the offensive coordinator! I think they will discuss offensive philosophy and possible OC's!!! Eaglehaslanded
Maybe Howie will have to stay home with the flu tomorrow and Gus will not go running away......... Earl J
Obviously, none of us can know how well this guy would do, but he's got all the hallmarks of the sort of coaches that have had the most success over the last decade, young hungry coordinators. One things for sure, he would put the defense back in order. Hemingway

LOVE THIS! dudega
We don't need bonehead conservative coordinators. His prevent defense cost the Seahawks a trip to the NFC championship game. My vote is still for G. Cobb. Leron
This guy is the real deal, not some recycled old coach..best we could hope for, I wanted this guy the day AR was fired..Go Eagles! TexasYankee- He must've done something big at Fort Lewis because he hasn't been on any successful teams in the NFL. He was part of Jon Gruden's defensive staff that imploded in December of 2008 getting Gruden fired and he did figure out how to stop RG III after he couldn't walk anymore.

Lurie, hide Roseman in your closet until the deal is done. You know which one. The one you haven't come out of yet. ghost of callison- That's just wrong...you should be ashamed of yourself. Now the Tonner's going to have to replace his Gennt Cream Ale covered keyboard.
- Never ashamed and glad it wasn't a real drink you wasted. The keyboard can be replaced. "Political correctness" has never been my strong suit. Somehow, I think we could be kindred spirits.
One thing is for sure, if he wins us the Super Bowl this will be seen as the most genius move of all history. If not..... Larry Byrd
People who say we need someone "new", ie. not a previous head coach are just playing it safe. They want to be right no matter what. If the team turns out good, hey it was a great call. If the team turns out bad, he just wasn't the right "new" guy. lol. for once in the last 20 years can we pick a frigging NFL HEAD COACH that knows how to win games in the league? Or at least someone with some substantial head coaching experience? Being the coordinator of a good defense for one seasons does not make you qualified to be a head coach. thats called FLASH IN THE PAN, not a fire. KingOfPhilly- I'd say having 6 games against bottom 8 offenses does wonders for a DC, but Bradley's defense blew 4th quarter leads against two of those bottom 8 teams and they made Ryan Tannehill look like Sammy Baugh. I hope they hire a coach who actually has done something, won games, been to the playoffs, Super Bowl etc. Bradley hasn't accomplished jack.

Bradley seems tough and hardworking, which Phiily fans love. It will ultimately come down to W's. Which will require him to hire a competent OC that can exploit iggles very good skill position players. And a QB? ATL-iggle
I'd be disappointed if Bradley is hired. There are a lot of accomplished coaches available and we get a guy who has mostly toiled for losers, had more 4th quarter collapses than Juan Castillo, and had no answers in the post season this year- his first post season experience since 2007. jtj06
Where is Buddy Ryan when you need to revive a league of pass-happy, tap the QB on his tookie for a "pretty-boy" sack? Isn't the NFL about war on a Sunday afternoon? Let's get on with it, then. Football is football, and the owners that make war by proxy (but in "green" peace) to assuage their guilt, anger and jealousy about not being to play the game themselves on Sunday afternoons, should continue to hire those who do what they're loathe to do. Get yourself a man's man as a coach, Jeffy, or I'll continue to tell my friends and acquaintances that hold season's tickets for a team of wimps to dump 'em--like I did. ~Louie Theophilus Antipas
The last thing management should do is pay attention to what the fan base wants. It's about winning games, not pleasing a mob cybersport- That's right. It's about winning games. Management should NEVER pay attention to what the fan base wants. After all, what makes the fan base important to an owner and his bean counting GM, with neither one knowing WTH they want or how to judge real football talent? You just continue to be content to watch the sub-par football that we TRUE fans have been exposed to in the last 6 years. As fans who care about winning, we will continue to call out the owner and his hand picked leadership for what they are -- fantasy football gamblers at the expense of a rabid fan base.
I hate to bring down Buddy because I loved the guy, but I have as many playoff wins as he did. The stadium sucked and the owner was stingy, but it was that way in a lot of places in the league back then. He got that Defense going but he never gave Randall a line to work with. This year's line, which was decimated by injuries looked like the starters from the Oline of that era. hillbillybirdsfan
Get our "Yes" man in once in for all. The basement is where we'll be for the foreseeable future. ubetterlisten
Roll the dice and hire Bradley. p-diddy- Roll the dice, and rid Philadelphia of "politically-correct," "feel-good-because-we're-about-all-that-matters-about-the-Philadelphia-Eagles-is-our-new-"green-windmills" on the top of our publicly-paid for stadium, and not focusing on winning Jeffy's top, prize: a Super Bowl.
Theophilus Antipas - The Eagles are perennial Salary Cap Bowl champs. Don't forget to add that to their list of accolades. Gold Standard baby.
