CLEARWATER, Fla. -- Heavy rains have canceled both Phillies split squad games in Lakeland and Port Charlotte on Friday. They will not be made up.

The Phillies' buses never left Bright House Field this morning as they waited for a decision on the games. After they were canceled, some Phillies players stuck around for a non-mandatory workout.

J.A. Happ was scheduled to start in Port Charlotte against the Rays today. Pitching coach Rich Dubee said Happ will instead start on Saturday against the Twins here in Clearwater.

The games wouldn't have been rained out if the Phillies still had Cliff Lee.

Ridiculous?... The games weren't rained out because the Phils traded Cliff Lee... They were rained out because of Jamie Moyer's contract! (we're talking practice people... not a game... not a game... we're talking practice....)

Remember what Rickey Henderson said about spring training: "This s*** don't count. This s*** don't go on the bubble-gum card."

Wow...wow....type 1...who'd of thunk of the potential effect.....not me. see the link below. how after 3 years, i never knew about Taylor's type 1 diagnosis, is beyond me. I live in Fla but read this everyday...wow! http://msn.foxsports.com/mlb/story/Diabetes-presents-challenges-for-athletes this article would leave me to trade Taylor even if he were far less of a prospect than Brown.

The Mayan calendar predicted a Cliff Lee alignment with Venus; and rare eclispe with the Sun 5,000 years ago...weird.

About Matt Gelb and Bob Brookover

Bob Brookover and Matt Gelb team up for their third straight season covering the Phillies for the Inquirer and philly.com.

This is Brookover’s second stint writing about the Phillies, having joined the coverage team after seven years as an Eagles beat writer. Brookover was hired by The Inquirer in 2000 as the Phillies beat writer after spending 13 years writing about the team for two suburban newspapers. While on the Eagles beat, Brookover, who had covered just two winning Phillies teams in 15 seasons, saw the Phillies move into a cash-cow new ballpark and begin playing a brand of the game he found unrecognizable. Gelb is in his third season covering the Phillies. He was hired by The Inquirer in August 2009 after graduating from Syracuse University. He has also covered baseball at The Star-Ledger and Cape Cod Times. Born and raised in Bucks County, he attended Central Bucks High School West. Follow him on Twitter here.
