This doesn't sound good.

The Phillies changed their interview schedule today to include head athletic trainer Scott Sheridan. He will be talking about Pat Burrell's bad back, which means there is a very good chance he will be scratched from Game 1 of the National  League division series. I caught wind that the Phillies will see how Burrell performs in BP before they make an official decision, but still .... the trainer is making an appearance in the interview room before Burrell takes BP.

Not good.

Rudy Seanez officially off the postseason roster. No surprise there.

Seanez and catcher Lou Marson will travel with the team, however.

Adam Eaton, Les Walrond and Tadahito Iguchi have returned to their respective homes. Shows just how far Eaton has fallen off the Phillies' radar. They didn't even waste his time sending him to instructional league to stay sharp.

Eaton wasted our time for two years so who cares. It gives him time to look for a job outside of baseball.

What sense does it make to have Seanez and Marson travel with the team? What am I missing?

Is this interview being held live? Can it be watched by anyone outside the Delaware Valley?

Game time decision. If Pat can't go, Werth goes to left and Stairs plays right. Pat might wear a wrap if it doesn't bother him. They're doing all sorts of stretches with him.

I don't think it's the end of the world if he doesn't play today. Might want to get more lefty on Gallardo anyway. If they go J-Roll, Werth, Chase, Howard, Victorino, Feliz, Stairs, and Ruiz with a lineup, that's slower than the Conshohocken Curve at 5:05 PM, but Feliz has had some luck against this guy.

Duckworth either of the two can be added to the roster for NLCS or WS if necessary

If Pat can't go, seems like Golson would have been a good choice for the roster...def replacement, pinch runner...

Eaton should do the decent and honest thing and retire. He should also forfeit the remainder of his salary, or give it to charity if it violates union regulations.

bark: You must not have seen Golson in CF on Sunday or at the plate anytime since he was called up. He may be a top prospect, but he's not in a position to really help the Phils this post-season, injured Burrell or not.

Re: Seanez & Marson, I think teams can replace injured players. So by "travelling with the team" if a catcher or pitcher gets hurt in game 3 their fill-in is already in Mil. for game 4.

About Matt Gelb and Bob Brookover

Bob Brookover and Matt Gelb team up for their third straight season covering the Phillies for the Inquirer and philly.com.

This is Brookover’s second stint writing about the Phillies, having joined the coverage team after seven years as an Eagles beat writer. Brookover was hired by The Inquirer in 2000 as the Phillies beat writer after spending 13 years writing about the team for two suburban newspapers. While on the Eagles beat, Brookover, who had covered just two winning Phillies teams in 15 seasons, saw the Phillies move into a cash-cow new ballpark and begin playing a brand of the game he found unrecognizable. Gelb is in his third season covering the Phillies. He was hired by The Inquirer in August 2009 after graduating from Syracuse University. He has also covered baseball at The Star-Ledger and Cape Cod Times. Born and raised in Bucks County, he attended Central Bucks High School West. Follow him on Twitter here.
