Weaver wants McNabb to return

POSTED: Sunday, March 28, 2010, 11:00 AM

Eagles fullback Leonard Weaver has become among the first players to publicly weigh in on the McNabb trade situation.

Weaver was interviewed by Ross Tucker on Sirius Radio this afternoon. Tucker sent out a few tweets with Weaver's comments.

"I'm surprised," Weaver said. "Let the man go ahead and play the last year of his contract out ...

"Not a knock on Kolb, but I would love for Donovan to come back for another year so we can try to win it all."

From earlier:

It is hard to know what to believe these days with the Donovan McNabb trade rumors, but here is an interesting sidelight that does not exactly involve McNabb, but does involve one of the teams reported to be in hot pursuit.

Michael Lombardi reports in his Sunday column for the National Football Post that the Oakland Raiders are discussing the availability of quarterback Sage Rosenfels with the Minnesota Vikings. Lombardi writes that the Vikings would only trade Rosenfels if they knew for sure that Brett Favre is returning.

Of course, the Vikings have not really given Favre a timetable and say they have no idea what he will do. Most league observers think he will return.

Rosenfels was acquired from Houston before last season and had a chance to compete with Tavaris Jackson for the starting job until Favre came to Minnesota. Rosenfels was the third quarterback the entire season.

By the way, the Minneapolis Star-Tribune reports that there have been no indications of talks between the Eagles and Vikings about McNabb.

And the Oakland Tribune has maintained no one in the Raiders organization has said there have been talks with the Eagles. Other reports say there have been.

Could the Raiders be interested in Rosenfels as a backup plan in case they can't land McNabb? Rosenfels would certainly be a much cheaper -- and much, much less accomplished -- alternative. Could acquiring Rosenfels be another QB to battle for the starting job and provide some insurance should JaMarcus Russell continue to struggle, but also represent Oakland's intention not to give up on him completely yet? Obviously, the Raiders would not be getting McNabb to be Russell's -- or Bruce Gradkowski's -- backup.

And the drama continues ...

Uh, wiff, hate to break the news to, but they have been. I guess Weaver is now officially off the Young Guns list now? He must be devastated.

I agree with Howard Eskin's opinion tonight regarding McNabb. I also dont see any team offering us enough to move McNabb. Teams know McNabb is on the block but no one is even making a fair offer for him so he will stay here.. And as they say.. sometimes the best moves are the ones you dont make.. Mcnabb is the far superior athlete and QB compared with Kolb. Keep building around him and remind yourselves about John Elway and how he was almost run out of Denver for not winning the big game. And then what happened?

I'll take McNabb on the Eagles anyday. Only thing, he's more comfortable playing from behind. So start Kolb, and when we're 3-5, send Donovan roaring back in to save the day and get us to the playoffs. (Playoffs?) Then start Kolb in the playoff game, and send McNabb in when we're down 14-3. Perfect.

Weaver must have learned to catch a pass with his feet.

McNabb is done mentally. Just the talks of getting rid of him have destroyed his childish brain beyond repair. His head will never be in the game again as long as he is an Eagle. Trade him and soon.

"I guess weaver wants to pay his 6.5 bonus on may 5 too...all the young guns want Kevin Kolb to start,D-jackson-macklin-celek-mccoy are behind KK or they would have been quoted otherwise.....wolf." Wolf, do I need to point out the stupidity of this remark? (only middle-of-the-road idiocy by your standards, of course ) Nah, I'll just let it speak for itself, and for its author - like most of your "shtick".

lol, so true number4not5...he is too sensitive and just pretends to not care, just like he pretends he isnt nervous before a big game...he goes back to arizona or chicago and complains to mommy and daddy...after all this trade talk if hes back hel say some nonsense about wanting to "get it done" or "winning one for philadelphia", and then he will go like 1-12 for 25 yards in the first half against one of the first oppenents, they will lose, and he will get injured by week 7 or 8. then its Kolb time, finally.

Nobody cares what you you think Leonard. I got an idea;how about practicing holding onto the ball instead of fumbling it away like you did often at the end of the year.

love how people now bash Weaver, who everyone was crying for to get a new contract, when he backs McNabb...amazing...
