Andy: Can't Ask Players Not to Quit if I Do

POSTED: Monday, November 19, 2012, 12:50 PM

Should Andy Reid “cop out” and step down?
Yes.
No.

Andy Reid was asked Monday why, if his leadership of the steadily worsening team is ineffective, he doesn't consider stepping down.

"I'm standing in front of the team and telling them 'these are the things we need to do,' one of which is continue to battle," Reid said. "I think that'd be a copout ... that's not how I'm wired. We're going to keep battling, do it as a team. I can't tell the guys one thing and then do the other."

Reid said running back LeSean McCoy has a headache and is in stage 1 of his recovery from the concussion he suffered Sunday. but Reid said McCoy seemed less affected after the game than Michael Vick had been right after his concussion, suffered the previous week against Dallas. Reid said both players are day-to-day. He said Vick feels better, but baseline testing Monday was not normal, which would seem to make it unlikely Vick will play a week from tonight against Carolina.

Reid said he still does not regret leaving McCoy in the Washington game, down 25 points with a minute and 45 seconds left.

"There are a few things that you wish wouldn't happen," said Reid, who seemed to be saying that players and coaches don't want to wave a white flag in the late stages of a loss. On Sunday, Reid had answered questions about McCoy remaining in the game nonsensically, talking about wanthing to catch up and win the game.

"I know we're letting the fans down and the city down," Reid said. "I completely understand that ... There are no excuses."

Reid said team chairman Jeffrey Lurie, who has not been available to reporters, "feels like I do, that we're letting people down."

Reid doesn't leave, but eagles fans will. Revenue will drop. Mr. Laurie are you watching this mess? not more Monday night games for you for a few years.

Laurie needs to decide for him. The team already made up its mind to quit and Red is the last to know. Best coach in the teams history is gone. Long live the next one.

Flyers. They have the best GM of the three.

Andy should have been given at least the first half season off to grieve -- psychological injured reserve, so to speak. He's ineffective right now and it's hurting the team, and should be relieved now. Lurie ought to bring in someone with cred and experience to do a top to bottom evaluation of his entire operation. A consultant if you will, someone who has no axe to grind but has been around. Tony Dungee, Mike Holmgren, Bill Parcels, someone with heart, not Jimmy Johnson. Big Red needs a GM to evaluate talent, and a bench coach for in-game tactics, to go with his motivational and coaching talents which are real. There's a lot to be said for continuity if it is coupled with a solid program of continuous improvement. What we tend to do is institute cults of personality, instead.

why should lurie care? as long as idiot eagles fans keep selling out the Linc, he makes his money. eagles are 20mm under the cap after refusing to pay veterans like winston justice, A.Q. shipley and mike mcglynn veteran money.

btw, those three guys are starting for the 6-4 colts
